Really excited to have Andrew Robinson, 2015 WIAC Defensive Player of the Year, working with the UWL d-line.  Welcome to La Crosse!

Proud Papa moment alert!  Cool article below that recognizes my son's work as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Ohio University men's basketball team:

Well that's pretty darn cool. Congrats to Zach on his accomplishments and I hope for good things for the basketball team.
Where did he get his training?

Believe it or not he got his undergraduate and his masters degree at UW-W. Shocker, I know.  And thank you everyone for your kind words. I'm very blessed to have two amazing sons. Pure grace because I very seldom had any idea what to do as a parent other than love them.

From what I hear the big challenge is figuring out how to slot all the D1 talent into the depth charts.

Interesting that Kickoff has the Imititans going 10-0.

I'm not sure if you're playing me w that question, but I'll answer. See the D3 Football home page.

Was also a bit surprised to see UWO ahead of UWW and at 10-0.  Would agree that the conference will come down to those two teams though.

Also surprised to see UWRF predicted to go 6-4, I can't see that happening.

UWO Titan 78

Why all the surprise that Kickoff picks the Titans to win the conference? Both teams have a lot returning, and they split two really tight games last year. This year's game is at Whitewater, but the game is probably a pick 'em at this point (that could change as injuries occur during the season). I'm sure that the Warhawks will use this as bulletin board material, but I'm also sure that the Titans are one of the few teams in the country that know they can beat UWW.

I don't think the WARHAWKS need any bulletin board material to get stoked for the Titan game.  We're totally aware of the challenge they present.

I'm not surprised that Kickoff or any other entity would pick UWO at 10-0, I do think it's interesting in that there had to be quite a bit of thought in the decision. If I was unaffiliated, I'd pick UWO as well. The have excellent strength in returnees and they do have confidence in playing UWW.
My early guess is UWW by 10 or more if the offensive plan involves more UWW candy and looks much different than the 2015 strategy.
If not, I switch the spread around.

It's not a total shock or anything, in my own head I had guessed UWW would be picked 1st is all.  Both teams will be very strong and are clearly the top of the conference, outside of an upset from Platteville.

Eagles kicking game revamped this season

http://lacrossetribune.com/sports/local/college/eagles-kicking-game-revamped-this-season/article_d9c50214-bc6d-5a59-947e-cd4cf2a2d22f.html

One nugget buried in the sidebar:

QuoteQB UPDATE: The trio of Ben Schramski, Andrew Thompson and Tarek Yaeggi are still battling it out for the Ealges' starting job. Yaeggi took a majority of the first team reps on Tuesday, but the others will have their days with the No. 1 offense this week as well.

All three will also play significant time in Saturday's scrimmage at Loras College.

Schramski is a transfer from D2 Concordia St. Paul, where he played in 19 games in the past two years.  Thompson is the lone returner in the top group, and has been up and down the past two seasons.  Yaeggi played last year at a JUCO in California, and spent the spring with LL at Buffalo.  I believe all will be juniors this year for the Eagles.

RF over Carleton 35-7 in scrimmage today. Sawyer Moon, Trayvon Hearns, Ben Beckman all looked good at qb. Not sure that Carleton will be competitive in MIAC this fall.

Team My Ranking   Kickoff Ranking   Difference
Whitewater #2   #3   +1
Oshkosh #4   #6   +2
Platteville #8   #12   +4
Stevens Point   #14   #61   +47
La Crosse #32   #72   +40
Stout #62   #85   +23
River Falls #85   #59   -26
Eau Claire #114   #97   -17

The model likes Stevens Point and La Crosse a lot more than Pat & Keith, and doesn't expect UWRF to continue to improve. That's just the nature of the model--it expects teams to revert to their own long-term trends. UWW is pegged as the #2 team, rated behind UMU by only 0.0001 (on a 0-1 scale). UWW has the #1 D & #4 O in the country, with UWP expected to also have a Top 5 offense and UWO projected as the #2 D. The big surprise to me here is how high UWL is ranked. They return a lot of starters, and it appears some of their struggles the last few years were self-inflicted. Doesn't seem completely unlikely for Schmidt to see some first-year improvement a' la Harbaugh at Michigan (especially if their new QB's work out like Ruddock did), and god knows the non-con schedule this year will help.
