Well, that was a heck of a game.  Prior to UWW's last TD drive, the longest scoring drive by either team was 54 yards.  Moving the ball with consistency and finishing was tough sledding for both.

-UWO's 67 total yard advantage over UWW felt like a lot more.  UWW's last drive (72 yards) closed the gap significantly, but to me it felt as though UWO had the upper hand on O all day.
-I know it's a preference thing and not black and white.  I thought UWO should have gone with a field goal on 4th and 3 at the UWW 5.  They would have had a 2 score lead.
-Will Meyer (UWW field goal kicker)- thank you.
-Perfect pass by Wilber, great catch by Campbell for the first TD.
-Another preference thing.  I thought it was a mistake for UWW to call a timeout when UWO was at the UWW 1 and a first down.  Although it turned out UWW didn't need the extra T/O, a penalty against UWW for too many men was only going to move the ball by 1 foot.  Concede the TD and save the T/O's.
-Great offensive play calls by Coach Smith on the last drive.
-Even greater blocking by the entire UWW offense on the TD.  Thanks to Pat for the video of the TD.  Every player gets a block, some get 2 blocks.

-Cole's fumbling doesn't concern me at this point.  First, he needs more reps taking direct snaps, against competition.  Second, he's a sophomore playing in really big games, he will improve quickly the more he plays.
-I wish Coach Smith would implement a stronger 5-10 yard passing game.  I think the game vs UWP showed the value of crossing routes, curls and outs in moving the chains and setting up bigger plays.  I think the last drive against UWO showed the value of shorter routes.  I think Coach Smith gets a bit impatient at times, and calls plays that are lower percentage.  He has the horses to move the ball down the field with higher percentage plays.  I don't think I've seen a slant route.  I know we don't see enough crossing routes or tight end curls and quick outs.  Two huge and talented tight ends.  Yes, they've been productive, but they can be used so much more in a quick passing game to set up short yardage situations and move the chains.

Congrats to UWO, they are an excellent team.

Totally agree with this. I was going to post something on here Saturday during the game about that. For awhile it seems we either run it for a few yards, or we attempt a 40 yard bomb (99% of the time falls incomplete, seemingly)....nothing really in between.

But yes, the play calling got better later in the game with those sideline out routes (Gumina and Hudson).

Interesting...I thought Patterson's game-winning TD run would have at least been a finalist for the top play. Oh-well.

It's possible that the video was never submitted to this site.  If it wasn't it wouldn't show up regardless of how good.

I shot it -- it was definitely considered. We have run really hot and cold this year on Play of the Week and this week we had a bunch of great plays. The winner and four finalists, then Lakeland and UWW were right there in terms of vote-getters from our crew as well.

When the UWO team buses pulled into The Perk they were greeted with large signs:
Welcome to Candyland.
I have to believe they got a little chuckle.
We probably should have handed out recruiting letters to UWO underclassman.
Why UWW?  Look Up.

What an epic run.

Pat with the video I assume?

That t-shirt hanging out on the scoring RB is a major violation of NCAA rules. Could be a problem for the Hawks.  :o :o

So what's this whole candyland thing?

It's a reference to a comment Pat Cerroni (Titan HC) made in an interview following their loss to us last year.  He referred to WW as "candyland" evidently because our staff have better salaries than he can pay his.   Craig Smith was his offensive coordinator before Bullis hired him to be ours.

Actually I'd completely forgotten it myself so when the comment was made last week I didn't understand at all.  (What's more frustrating than throwing smack at someone only to have it go completely over their head? LOL)  So I didn't figure it out until I had gotten to the parking lot and people were talking about it.  I guess I don't really pay that much attention to what Pat Cerroni says.  Go figure.

He won't talk much, so if he does, it should be of interest.  ;)

Hah! I have THAT candyland from when I was a kid tucked away in the closet lol

But thanks to badgerwarhawk for that explanation. He probably could have picked a better analogy than that.
