UWO Titan 78

I was only able to watch the second half of the game, due to my daughter having a basketball game, but I wanted to share my thoughts since not too many Titan fans do. First off, congrats to the Warhawks on a great win and a great run against some really great competition the last few weeks. I'm sure the Badgers being off played into it, but I'm also really happy to see such a great crowd come out for a DIII football game. The game was a bit sloppy. Whitewater has been in three tough games in a row, and Oshkosh hasn't really played anybody. The lack of meaningful reps against quality opponents may have hurt the Titans continuity. There were just too many penalties and balls on the ground for both teams. It will be interesting to see if the game will be crisper if these two teams play again. I heard the Warhawks announcers say numerous times that the Titans squandered numerous chances in the first half, but from what I saw the teams were evenly matched. As a former offensive lineman, I love watching the game in the trenches. This was a real battle the entire second half. During this run of success, few teams (even Mt Union) can match Whitewater in the trenches. The Titans can and did. If they are lucky enough to make it into the postseason, this bodes well for them. One area that I think the soft schedule has hurt the Titans was in the passing game. Credit has to go to the Warhawks front seven as well, but the Titan passing game was out of sync. I just don't think the team has gotten enough reps with Kasper and the new receivers against quality opposition at game speed. Hopefully that will improve as the season goes on. One big positive I saw is that Dylan Hecker is returning to form. I think the Titans have handled his workload well thus far, and hopefully he will continue to get healthier as the season progresses.

The "Candyland" comment can be looked at a couple of ways. Obviously, there is the financial aspect. But when I first heard the comment last year, I took it to mean that positional depth and talent that the Whitewater coaching staff has at their disposal is like going into a "candy" store. Obviously, Whitewater has been the gold-standard in the conference (and country). The rest of the league has had to try to close that talent gap. Not only are these coaches competing on the field, but they are also competing in recruiting for these same players (mostly in Wisconsin and Illinois). I haven't seen Platteville, but perhaps the Titans and Pioneers have closed the gap a little bit. I think that is good for the conference and DIII.

Again, congrats to the Warhawks. Hopefully both teams can stay healthy, and I'd love to see a rematch in the postseason.

Candyland is all about the coaching staff budgets which are substantially higher at UW-W than UW-O.   See prior posts about OC changing schools over $$

Who cares--Cerroni is a great guy and he is also funny. Oshkosh is lucky to have him.

What an epic run.

Pat with the video I assume?

That t-shirt hanging out on the scoring RB is a major violation of NCAA rules. Could be a problem for the Hawks.  :o :o

Doubt it. Watch any D1 game and you see half the skill guys sporting this look. I actually think it looks a bit sloppy, but it's sorta the style right now. There doesn't seem to be any sort of push against the shirt hanging out below the jersey, if what we see at the FBS level is any indication.

When I went back and listened to the interview my first impression was similar.  He did seem to be talking about the depth of talent in WHITEWATER.  But then as he continued his comments drifted towards the money thing.  Either way I didn't take any offense to the comments.  They control their athletic department budget,  the fund raising the department does and the salaries they're willing to pay.  Frankly, as far as the football program goes, they seem to be doing just fine the way things are.  Cerroni has definitely closed the gap that existed between the two programs.

Two WIAC players Famus Hasty, a WARHAWKS corner back, and Noah Risch, a corner back in Lacrosse, have both been named to this week's D3football.com Team of the Week.   Hasty was also selected the WIAC Player of the Week.

I bet they would be all over it if it said "Mitchell's Dime Taps" on the back of the t-shirt.  Meanwhile the NCAA takes millions from beer companies, etc. to pay for all the lawyers it takes to investigate egregious infraction generators like Baylor football, UW Stevens Point basketball, etc.  ;)

Risch had 9 tackles, 3 for loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception against Stout.  Not a bad day at the office.

Just wait until they get the new candy store completed in the next year or two with the renovations to the locker rooms and athletics areas.

Correction: Risch is a linebacker.

So I may make the ride out to LaCrosse on Saturday to see an old friend.  If I go, the game will be the afternoon feature.

What's the insight on parking around their stadium?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Hey Kitchen Sink -
Here's info on parking at UWL:

Tailgating is allowed only in designated UWL parking lots, the Dahl Ford lot and the Dahl Subaru
lot. All regular automobiles may park in these lots for a single-game parking fee of $10.  (I believe these are right next to the stadium; the lots across the street no longer exist, as they are putting up new building there.) Selected other campus lots remain available, free of charge, on a first-come, first‐served basis.

Tailgating is allowed 3 hours prior to kickoff...

I'd suggest just parking off campus and saving the bucks. You'd likely only have to walk three or so blocks at most...

Temps are to be in the mid-60s, with light rain...

5-0 and a QB that's thrown for 300 yards in 3 consecutive games- I assume this means UWL has no intention of taking it easy on the Dub. I'm glad to see UWL back.

Me too!  But keep in mind UWL hasn't faced a defense anywhere close to the level of Whitewater's, so I wouldn't expect another 300 yard day.  What I would expect however, is a confident UWL team that believes they can beat the Warhawks.  That alone hasn't been true for a many seasons now.

A confident team is a dangerous team. UWW has given up a ton of yards via the pass but they've been very stingy in giving up points. My guess is UWL's success will depend on their performance in the red zone as I'd be surprised to see big scoring plays.
One never knows though.
