UWW's been pretty generous this year to many receivers.
3 went for 100+ for Belhaven
1 for 270 and 1 for 100 for Morningside
2 for 100+ (and 184 for one) for UWP
2 for about 150 each for UWL
1 for 130 for UWRF
1 for 100 for UWS

I expect the Lakeland guys are pretty excited.

They were salivating ... and two of them are now able to be added to this list.

Defense also gave up it's second 90+ yard touchdown pass of the season (probably a record, but I'm too lazy to look it up).

Don't know what nickname Lakeland has for their QB, Michael Whitley. But, if it was up to me, I'd call him Timex because he took a licking but kept on ticking. That young man looked like he was ready to collapse at any moment, maybe playing possum, but I don't think so. Seemed to be hurt all afternoon but kept going and making the UWW defense look silly at times, other times we was getting killed.

Whitley took a beating.  If you had asked me in the second quarter, I would have said no way he will finish this game.  To his credit, he did. The pounding never stopped him from pulling it down and running, either.

It was a good win for the Hawks. Survive and advance. The positives included:

Josh Ringelberg became the fourth different back to gain over 140 yards rushing in a game this year.

Chris Nelson played well in difficult conditions. Three TD's and an interception that was thrown right into the hands of the receiver, only to bounce off right into the hands of a defender who returned it for a touchdown.

The first team defense gave up only seven points.

The Hawks had six sacks on the day.

Most importantly, the Hawks survive and advance. There are six starters who did not play today that are fully expected to be able to play next week.  Getting healthy at the right time.

That's the best news coming from this win!

bp, I was wrong about Josh Ringelberg, you were right.  He played a great game. Too bad his own lineman nearly took his head off on that one rush. Thought he might not return, but he did.
I know the play you are talking about. That was a little too violent of a collision for purple on purple! He's a tough kid. Help is on the way, so I'm not sure his role going forward. He's probably earned some carries but with guys getting injured and healthy again, playing time can be given and taken away. Both of the freshmen running backs who have stepped in have really made great strides. And two behind them have gotten some carries, too.  The depth of this team  has served us well over the past few weeks. It will be interesting to see how the coaches choose to work the previous starters back into the mix. I'm not sure what Wittenberg will be expecting, but this team has the capacity to have a lot of different looks depending on how the coaches choose to play it.

On the subject of QB's, it would be hard to be upset with whatever decision the coaches make.  Both guys have shown an ability to win. I guess Wilbur with Nelson at the ready?
There's a part of me that would like to see Patterson rest another game if possible.

Both of those decisions will be interesting and I'm guessing they won't be announced until game time. At least I wouldn't. I agree with you on the QB thing. I think most importantly, both QB's agree. Nelson did a great job handling the "playing time" question in the press conference after the game, if any of you caught it. He said (paraphrase), at Whitewater, it's all about winning. He indicated that his role as a leader of the team is important to him regardless of playing time.  Cole is the same way. He just wants to win.

Of course Patterson is chomping at the bit to play and expects to be 100%. But that will be up to the trainers first and then the coaches. If I had a guess, I would guess the trainers will clear him.  But the coaches may feel exactly as you do, another week of rest could do him well.  If they feel like the freshman gang of Ringelberg, Maly, et al can carry the load against Witt, they may try to get by without Patterson. But that will be the third priority on the list. First, Drew's health. Second, do what it takes to win. Third, win without using Patterson to give him that extra week.  I do think the freshmen have rightfully earned some trust. Selfishly, I would like to see Drew play just because I like watching Drew play.

How many times have we seen a player with an ankle problem come back from injury, supposedly at 100%, only to to have him hobble off the field shortly after his first play? Ankles are a funny injury that way. It seems like once with an ankle injury, it sticks with you for a long time. Heck, I had a sprain 5 years ago and to this day, I can still get an uncomfortable feeling trying to do certain things - maybe a little advanced age creeps into that too. It would be nice to hold him out until the next game, but I to, love watching him run. They have to have a careful balance in these situations. I guess that's why they pay our coaches the big bucks, though!

This guy hits a deer with his car. He thought the deer is dead, so he places it into his car to take home. Free meat, or so he thinks. Calls the sherriff's office to report the incident. When the deputy arrives (this is when things get strange) and they open the trunk, the deer moves, it wasn't dead afterall. The man takes it out of the trunk and the dozing deer hobbles off into the woods for a clean get-a-way.

I know there are not many (any?) UW-P folks here, and I am sure that most of them are quite bitter at Saturday's outcome, but I just wanted to offer congratulations on a fine game (and season).  I was impressed by the Pioneer team.  The outcome was in the Johnnies favor, but the game was a great one!
