D3 announced they were leaving Appleton a while back, now they are exiting Salem.

Wow.

Well, Appleton announced it was no longer bidding to host but based on today's news, I guess the NCAA would have pulled it from them anyway.

No way to know that. If Appleton was known to be bidding, perhaps Cedar Rapids and others don't bother making a bid.

Good point.  Appleton was certainly a beloved host.  But then, so was Salem (except for difficulty in getting there), yet they lost out on several hosting bids for tourneys they had had for virtually forever.  Strange are the ways of the NCAA selection committees! :P

But I am SOMEWHAT confident the tourney would still be in Appleton if they had bid for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if the NCAA told Appleton some time back "You aren't getting renewed.  Sorry."  And the reason being given is just to save face.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Perhaps, but they'd also have told Salem for sure, right? Baseball and football even have the same NCAA staff liaison.

I thought Appleton was out because the NCAA was changing the scheduling of the World Series and there was a conflict with the minor league team that uses the stadium which made it unavailable.

Right.

This week's events make it seem like they were not going to be allowed to host going forward, even if they had been able to.

Yes that seems likely.  Thanks for the clarification regarding scheduling.  I thought that was what I had heard when it was first announced.

In the former WIACer makes good category, Stevens Point and then Wisconsin Badger tackle Ryan Ramczyk was drafted in the first round by the Saints (32nd overall).  Pretty good for a guy that could only make 3rd team all west region.

Two WIAC athletes are among several DIII athletes who have received invites to NFL minicamps.

Dan Arnold WR UW-Platteville (Chiefs & Saints) and Cameron Brown DB UW-Oshkosh (Packers).  The article also mentions UW-WHITEWATER TE Brent Campbell though he hasn't received an invite.

Here's a link to the article if anyone missed it.

It's too bad Campbell didn't have more passes thrown his way. I'm sure his size is appealing but his receiving skills are a bit unknown. The Bears picked up a big D2 TE that had 16 TD receptions.
