Unlike with College of Faith, at least this game will actually count.

I see UWO added a game:
SEPT. 9
FOOTBALL 1:00 PM
VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG

According to a website that claims to be their official athletic website, the Dragons were 0-0-5 with five scoreless ties in 2015.

They did field enough of a team to play at Grambling State last fall, getting beat 72-12. (Grambling finished 11-1 last season). http://gsutigers.com/documents/2016/9/6/GSU_vs_Va_Univ_Lynchburg.pdf

Maryville scrimmaged them last year and from what I was told, it's a cluster you-know-what. They apparently dub themselves as a mixture between FCS, D2 and NAIA.

They lost the Alderson Broaddus game 55-8, by the way.

It says it a member of the NCCAA

http://www.thenccaa.org/sports/2017/7/17/About_Us.aspx

The National Christian College Athletic Association, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit association, was incorporated to provide a Christian-based organization that functions uniquely as a national and international agency for the promotion of outreach and ministry, and for the maintenance, enhancement, and promotion of intercollegiate athletic competition with a Christian perspective.

The very existence of the NCCAA speaks to the need of a different game plan for college athletics in the midst of an era when the very foundations of our society are being eroded morally. The NCCAA wants to step into the gap and become a vehicle for implementing a positive and purposeful athletic experience in cooperation with member institutions and their student-athletes.

In 1973, the NCCAA launched into other sports, developing national competition in cross country, track and field, and men's soccer. Bible colleges, which had competed well against liberal arts colleges, submitted a plan to add a second division. Division II basketball was developed in 1975 for the Bible colleges (non-scholarship), along with national competition in wrestling. Over the years, national championship competition in several other sports began: women's basketball, men's and women's volleyball, softball, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, baseball, football, and indoor track and field.

At the end of the day, I think it is good for UW-O to have this game, given their schedule (or lack thereof). Any time you can schedule a game in August, I think you have to consider yourself fortunate. Going a month without a game between John Carroll and UW-W would not have been a good thing for the Titans. At least they get to experience a game day and all that goes with it during that span.  I highly doubt the actual competition will improve them in itself. But I think going through the routine of a "game week" will help them.

Agreed. If anything else, it can serve as an opportunity for younger guys to get some PT.

Great reports Bleed, thanks. I appreciate going into the first game with an idea of who to watch for.

All the focus on the need for speed with the receivers really has me interested to see the 2017 offense.

I'll be doing the WIAC pickem again this year.  Everyone is welcome to join in.
Week one is posted in the "child" board WIAC pickem topic.  All picks must be made prior to the earliest game kickoff.

Thanks Emma. Agreed. Perhaps if we talk about it enough we can induce Illinois Wesleyan to use a nickel defense the entire game and dare us to run!

IWU has a new defensive coordinator so I am not sure what they will be running. They lose 3 veteran LB's but everyone else on D is back. Up front they are usually pretty good. Offensively their OLine and QB is back and a couple of good receivers. They always try to stretch the defense in the passing game with vertical throws of play action or misdirection. An intriguing matchup to say the least.

Absolutely an intriguing matchup. I was so looking forward to a trip to Bloomington, and then the wedding invitation arrived. WHO does that?????

Bummer! Weddings should be limited to February through July.
