The strange UWW numbers after 2 games:
Passing:  43-73 for 499 yards.
Rushing: 70 rushes for 164 yards and a 2.34 average per carry.
Fumbles: UWW 6 and 5 lost. Opponents: 1 and 1 lost.
Interceptions: UWW 1, Opponents 0.

Turnovers are an obvious issue, both giving and failing to take away.
Yards per carry is another obvious issue.
The run/pass ratio is 49%/51%.
Is the ratio big picture intentional or just game specific?

Run/Pass ratio short history:
2017: 49% Run
2016: 61% Run
2015: 65% Run
2014: 57% Run
2013: 55% Run

There are lots of factors that drive the ratio, including the level of skill UWW had at QB and receiver in 2013 and 2014.

Including an entire new coaching staff

The yards per carry is what stands out to me.   Regardless of the coaching staff or the opponent, I wouldn't have expected those kind of rushing numbers from UWW.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

We have to quit turning the ball over and giving opponents short fields.

The number and timing of offensive penalties on Saturday didn't help either.

Crazy thought.
As this Saturday's UWW game is entirely meaningless from a W/L standpoint, I'd love to see the Hawks run the ball 70% or more of the plays. All that matters from this point forward is developing a strength that UWO and the rest of the conference cannot stop.

I'd also add to my wish list that all passing plays be thrown 12 yards or less and pre-determined before the snap.

Just the stats

Situational football also plays into it. Fourth quarters used to be run out the clock but when you're behind, passing takes over.

You're correct in general. Specific to these two games however, coming from behind wasn't a big factor. Entering the fourth, UWW as tied w IWU and trailed C-M by 1. Traditional UWW football should have worked just fine. Granted, the final drive of the game may have required a bit more passing.

Emma's point is well taken...tied or a point or two behind going into the 4th quarter almost always ended in a Warhawk victory in recent years...not certain how you get back to that but we need to finish games a lot stronger...Pound the Rock...

I'm looking forward to the game against Wash U. Despite the last two weeks, I'm strangely confident we will see a much improved Warhawk team.

The Wash U QB situation is interesting. In their first game, Arthur and Stephens shared snaps and each were just under 50% completions.
Expecting to see something similar in game two, I was surprised to see Johnny Davidson as the leading passer, going 18-24, while Arthur hovered around 50%.
Who is this Johnny Davidson? I referred to the ol' Kickoff 17 to find out:
QuotePosition battle to watch: Quarterback. This was not a question for Wash U in recent years but it becomes one again now. Ryan Arthur was the backup last year, while Jack Stephens is the most improved over the offseason. Johnny Davidson, who punted last year, is a candidate, a resourceful playmaker,

It seems Mr. Davidson is quite the athlete as he also rushed 11 times for 90 yards and averaged 38 yards per punt (and 41.5 on 11 punts in the first game). I was really hoping to see his name in the defensive stats, but no such luck.

Nice article, thanks for sharing.
When I opened the link, an advertisement pooped up for diarrhea. UWO has me feeling that way of late.

I'm impressed that the players and coach Cerroni made it clear that the national championship is their driving motivation.

It was inevitable that he was going to take over as the signal-caller at some point. After all, how many other Wash U quarterbacks have made the cover of People magazine?
