If UWSP is without the starters ww mentioned, I would not be surprised if this WIAC weekend belongs entirely to the visiting teams- UWL, UWRF, UWEC and UWO.

Sounded like Whitewater was able to hit on the big plays and got steady pressure on the back-up QB in the second half on their way to the 21-14 victory.

Review of the game UWW - UWL game. Rain throughout certainly impacted both teams. I think it's fair to say UWL was hurt more by the weather as they rely heavily on passing game. Then losing Yaeggi in the second quarter put UWL in an even tougher position.

UWL had a great chance at points on the opening drive of game. IMO the decision to run Yaeggi in a QB sneak sort of way on 4th and 2 was a head scratcher. UWL had 2-3 similar plays where they were stopped on short yardage as they emptied the backfield and tried QB runs (not run-pass-option), and failed.

UWW.
1st quarter had three - 12 men on the field issues (offense, defense and special teams), one for a penalty and two leading to timeouts. They had a fourth in 3rd quarter for penalty.
They had 17 penalties for 132 yards. Since UWL only had two penalties I accept the argument that the refs were likely a bit off their game. But that doesn't excuse UWW's embarrassing lack of discipline and organization. It's sad but true, this program is in a tailspin.
10 first downs and 12 punts. A great 93 yard TD run by Patterson likely prevented this game from being an upset.
This was my first chance to see UWW in person this year. I was impressed with Patterson and the quickness of the O line. The defense did a nice job w coverage, making UWL look slow. Linebackers play aggressive.
This team may or may not have the stars it had in previous years, but to be honest, I'm not confident this staff would know how to use them if they did.
Wilbur was 7 of 20 and UWW's super tight end Gumina had zero catches.
I'll close w this, the attitude of the fans is as negative as I've ever seen it.

Good win for UWW over a good UWL team.  The weather impact both teams, but a 17 to 2 difference in number of penalties is more than a bit crazy.

Platteville ran into a brick wall in Oshkosh's oline. Hecker seemed to run at will through a tired Platteville defense. When. Platteville tried to stop the run Kasper made enough throws  to make Platteville play honest.  Great WIAC game between two teams that deserve their rankings. I'm one Platteville fan who hopes we will see Kasper and Hecker in the playoffs if not I'm glad to see they will be graduating soon and wish them luck in their post college careers.

Yea, I imagine they're a bit spoiled from over the years.

I believe the talent is still there, but they're playing way short of their full potential. Coaching needs to address that.

UWO Titan 78

The D3 landscape is huge, and there will be players with better numbers at the end of the season, but I can't imagine there are many RBs better than Dylan Hecker out there. People will say that John Carroll and UWW aren't as strong as they have been in past seasons, but one of each of their losses can be attributed to Hecker. I saw him in person against UWW and watched this weekend's game online. He is one of the best D3 runners after contact that I've ever seen. His numbers against the top echelon of D3 this year are amazing:
v. John Carroll--28 carries/186 yards/3 TDs
v. UWW--32 carries/190/1 TD
v. UWP--30/165/3 TDs

The Oshkosh coaching staff limits him in games they don't need him, but he comes up huge in games they do. Here's to hoping he gets rightful All-American consideration this season.

100% agree UWO Titan. He's not a flashy runner but his feet are very quick and his power is amazing.

02 I don't interpret your "spoiled" comment as the fans having unrealistic expectations.
UWW fans are spoiled in that we are accustomed to seeing the team not beat itself. There were plenty of games where a team doesn't play its best, but imo that's the human nature part of sport that creates the "any given Saturday" potential. The best coaching staffs figure out how to consistently get the little things right so that the natural human gaffes that invariably happen are less likely to lose games.
4 times UWW had 12 men on the field. 17 penalties. 3-15 on third down.
Imo UWW was the superior team (maybe by far). UWL had a ton of dropped passes (yes it was raining yet Holcomb caught 11).  That game was way too close considering the talent difference.

I just meant that since 2005 this team had a 10 year run that's unprecedented in college football history (with the exception of one program). Now that UWW fans are not seeing that same high level of play on the field, I can see them getting a little antsy. Most fans aren't used to seeing this team struggle.

Ouch, that hurts a whole lot.
