QuoteHow to use regional rankings: If you are an at-large candidate, you want to be sure you are the top at-large candidate in your region. That will ensure you get discussed by the national committee and have a chance to be put in the field.

There are 25 automatic bids, two Pool B bids (teams not in the 25 automatic bid conferences) and five Pool C (true national at-large) bids. Selection Sunday is Nov. 12.

Being listed in these rankings is not a guarantee of selection to the playoffs. There is no guarantee an at-large team will be taken from each region.

So LaCrosse is going?

No. These rankings are no guarantees of anything and, while a neat indication, at this point play no role in the actual selection criteria. UWL has 2 games left and are unlikely to be chosen as an at-large anyway.

Please remind me, is it once ranked always ranked?

The sos for UWW and UWP will increase Saturday regardless?
If UWW wins, neither UWW nor UWL will be credited w a win vs a RRO in UWP?
If UWW wins, do they get regionally ranked?
If UWP and UWL win, UWL wins big even though they lost to UWW? And UWP gets little help in regional rankings given UWW's record?
If UWP wins and UWL loses, UWP gains a win but loses a win vs RRO?

*Somewhere I heard back in the year that North Central lost three close games that North Central wasn't going to be considered for regional ranking until their win pct. went above .667 (which couldn't happen until they got to 7-3 on the last Saturday).  If that's a real thing, UWW might not get ranked until after Week 11.  But if they get to 7-3, I think they should be ranked.

From a WIAC supporter perspective, our best bet for two representatives is UWP and UWL win out, giving UWL a fighting chance.
Hmmm. Where do I focus my rooting energies.

Personally I would just root for the WIAC.  If two teams go I'll pull for both until and if they play one another than I'll be neutral.  If it isn't us I just want to see the league represent well.

Well, while a WIAC supporter, I am going to still stick with my original WIAC allegiance UWW!

I hold no illusion that the Warhawks have any chance of making the playoffs, but we are already playing for next year in terms of confidence, player development, recruiting and pride.   A wind against UWP is important.

I hope you didn't think that if one of the two WIAC teams remaining were us that I'd be neutral.  That ain't happening.

D O.C.

Well, if Whitewater does not get in, you can still win basketball and baseball this school year.

Yeah, I reckon this is the right answer.

Given that UWW has (most likely) wrapped up sole possession of possession of 2nd place, is the general consensus still that the WIAC only gets UWO into the playoffs with the AQ? What are your latest thoughts on UWL's chances for a pool C?

Widely considered the toughest conference by many D3 fans, I would find it rather shocking to see the WIAC only get 1into the playoffs.

Agreed, early season losses, where UWW beat itself, prove to be very costly

Bids go to teams, not conferences. There's nothing that says the WIAC runner-up has to get in.

Head-to-head, UWW is going to be behind Concordia-Moorhead, if nothing else. UWW might well be regionally ranked this week after the losses by UWP and George Fox, but it would be difficult for them to even get to the table, let alone in the field.
