I'd expect Landry to reach out to the best of the UWL prospects he'd been recruiting, even the "commits" who haven't yet put down a deposit. All's fair.

That's cold, but you won't hear me complain.   :-X

I don't know if the coaching world has formal rules for this situation but "Non-Compete" clauses are a challenge. It's one thing for Coach Landry to decide not to or be forced not to recruit his UWL recruits to UWW, but the players aren't held to that agreement. I hope integrity prevails so there aren't hard feelings.

Depends how you define "integrity"... The D3 football coaching landscape is full of hard feelings but short memories as well. These coaches are such a transient lot. If you honestly believe you can offer a kid a better situation than the one you first recruited him to, why not?

Interesting move for Landry though. On the surface, it certainly seems lateral but I wonder if UWL might ask too much of its high-level assistants, even head coaches. Heck last year's longtime head men's bb coach had to split coaching bb with an admissions gig, which he ended up transitioning to full-time. I couldn't tell you if Landry's UWW gig is football full-time for him but that might be a factor. Otherwise, leaving an apparently on-the-rise program like UWL, with admissions rates and incoming recruits leaving the dorms literally overflowing, seems a little curious.

Probably the same reason why Smith left UWO, and Erikson left UWP to come here. Just to name two.

I'm quite certain Smith teaches at UWW and I'd bet it's true for nearly the entire staff. Fortunately UWW's recent success and supportive administration enables the program to pay coordinators a salary that other programs apparently can't match.

As for ww's point about offering a kid a better situation, I get the idea but probably don't agree. As long as the recruit was approached when Landry was employed at UWL, I'd say it should be left entirely to the recruit to figure out.

Wouldn't that be a bit of a tough sell? I'm sure he sold the guys on the program and not himself. How do you reverse that now that you've convinced them that LaCrosse is the best school for them? "Hi Joe, you are too good to go to LaCrosse. Let me tell you about Whitewater. Forget what I said before...". Now, I'm sure the recruits have his cell number. If they call him, that's a different matter.

Here is what I find interesting. Coach Landry is already off the UW-Lacrosse Website and everything. Where Craig Smith is still on the UWW website. You would think if Smith was fired let go contract not renewed whatever you what to say he would be off UWW's website just like Landry is off UW Larcosse's website. I just find this interesting how fast Lacrosse moved on this and how slowly UWW is moving on this

Coach Smith is still under contract at UW-W through May. Coach Landry is no longer under contract at LaCrosse. I think it's as simple as that.

Also, SIDs have 4-8 winter sports going on and heading into tournament season, so updating the football coaching staff page might not be a real high priority right now.

Good morning WIAC faithful! Hoping someone can answer a few questions for me! As it happens, John Carroll will once again be opening up in Wisconsin against a WIAC team (Stevens Point this time!). I know its still 7 months away, but it pays to be prepared lol! Does Stevens Point have any kind of tailgating scene? (I know Whitewater has an awesome on, and Oshkosh I think does, but it was 4 degrees for that game, so no). It looks like they play at a field off campus, and looks like there isn't as much parking. I was thinking possibly stopping at a brewery before the game (Oso) if there is no tailgating. The Stevens Point website didn't mention it one way or the other!  ???

If you park in the little lot near the home stands, be sure not to leave any JCU gear in plain sight. Last year I got a parking ticket for the front end of my car being over the sidewalk. My tires weren't on the sidewalk, mind you, just a little bit of the front end of my car.  It was a strange ticket to receive given that by the time I left the game there were only 2 other cars in the same row as me and both were extended over the sidewalk farther than my car.  And then I realized I left a UW-W polo shirt hanging in my back window. They knew.  What was I going to do, drive back to Point to fight it? On the plus side, the game personnel people were cool and the Pointers football team seems to be in rebuilding mode, so it should be a fun trip.

I don't know anything specific but I wouldn't be surprised if there are already some "hard feelings."  I hadn't heard La Crosse was planning on getting rid of Landry so I'm thinking they might be a tad upset about this.

I seriously doubt Landry will reach out to any La Crosse recruits.  If they contact him I suspect he'd tell them to stick with La Crosse.  Personally I can't see Coach Bullis being on board with that.

Hard for LaCrosse to be too upset with the guy leaving, given that he'll almost double his pay. The big regret he might have this year, however, is leaving Drew David behind. That kid sure impressed me. UWL is my preseason pick.

Landry reaching out to any LaCrosse recruits who have yet to put a downpayment down is not dirty pool. It happens at this time of year. Lots. "Hey Johnny, just want to let you know I've taken a new job at Wottsamatta U. I know we spent a lot of time discussing Pottsylvania, but I'd really like the opportunity to show you why I've decided to make the switch. I think you'd really like our new facilities, staff, tradition, academics, blabbity blab blab. Can we set up a visit for you?"

This news, however, may change my outlook: "Waukesha West (WI) 2018 RB/LB Peter MacCudden has committed to UW-Oshkosh. Huge pickup for the Titans and head coach Pat Cerroni. MacCudden was four year standout at West. At one time held D1 offer from Ohio; also a number of D2 offers. #wisfb"
