Door County is outstanding.
Each town is worth visiting w a whole bunch of restaurants and such.
Me- I love the fish boil. Pelletiers and White Gull Inn are two recommendations.
There is a golf course, I think Alpine, with an incredible par 3 hole.

Thanks! Always nice to learn a little more about this great country of ours.
And WW, lots of places in Ohio that I wonder why people go there. I guess that's true about some places everywhere.
Good luck to the team's in the WIAC and the MIAC. Oh hell, good luck to all the Dlll teams. ☠🏈

I am planning a trip to Door County in late September and wanted to know if you guys know anything the wife and I shouldn't miss.  There's only so much the guidebooks and TripAdvisor etc. can tell you.  Thought I would try and get some info from those in closer proximity to Door County than me (I live in MI).  I do most of my posting in the CCIW Room, but do lurk here from time to time. Since there is still a few weeks till things start to really get cooking for the 2018, and the offseason is always a bit slow, I feel comfortable asking on here.  If you don't want to clog up the board feel free to PM me.  Thanks!

You might like hiking in Peninsula State Park (or tooling around on a bike or moped).  I also recommend the Ellison Bay park overlook.  Definitely a great photo op.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

(Note to self)  DO NOT plan a business trip to Madison & now Milwaukee for the next few days when there is some such Sh*$&#t called "Summerfest", and the don of all politics our President is in town.  HOLY CRAPATOLA!  Was in Madison on Tuesday during the threat of tornado, and then was in Racine, White Fish Bay, North Shore & downtown Milwaukee today.  More Milwaukee tomorrow so all good.  Darn are there a bunch of pretty swanky/historical/crazy mansions along the lake up in North Shore & White Fish.  I need one of THOSE for a summer home.

For all my Whitewater, Oshkosh, & Wiscy friends....your fellow brethren sure are nice folks!  It's Ohio but just a tad friendlier & nicer.

Hey, I want to thank all of you WIAC folks for the generous help/suggestions here. It always helps to get a crazy old codger (MUC57) to help with your plight (Thanks MUC! If they don't serve Milwaukee's Best, I do know they sell it by the 30 packs in the stores, it'll be in my cooler!) Now for one specific question: My brother lives in Kiwaunee (where I will be staying) I will be there on a Friday, where is the best fish fry between there and Door County?

"Crazy old codger"? "Crazy old codger"? Cut me to the quick! Ah, but I know we're friends and both enjoy a cold Milwaukee's Best from time to time. In Alliance, the main supermarket is selling 15 packs for $6.99. Damn, that makes us sound pretty cheap. But, you and I know, there is no price on quality, sophistication and pure enjoyment. As we say in Romanian, NOROC! Same as just plain cheers but makes it sound like I'm fluent in Romanian (I'm not). Go MIAC, Go OAC! What the hell, Go every conference! ☠🏈🍺🍺

I've heard good things about Hotel Stebbins in Algoma. The best one around is at Kropp's Supper Club on the far side of Green Bay -- that might be a bit too much driving for a guy who likes to wash down his perch with a Milwaukee's Best or two.

I'd recommend a DIII football game that weekend but all the semi-locals will be on the road.

Speaking of perch. The best fish I have ever eaten is Lake Erie perch. Little small, yellow fish that are out of this world. Do you guys get the same perch in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota? Probably don't call it Lake Erie perch. And, hey, I'll wash anything down with a cold MB. Chardonnay is also great with fish. Go Warhawks. And, of course, go Raiders . ☠🏈🍺🍷

Thanks for the help. +k Ms. matblake is hoping for some leaf color, but I think late September might be a bit early.

Yep, they are tasty. I'm not sure where the perch served locally come from. There's still a commercial harvest on Green Bay and Lake Michigan but the perch population crashed in the late 90s and quotas got scaled way back, so lake perch sold here may be harvested from Erie. $17/lb at the store, so the only perch I consume (besides at a fish fry) are those that I harvest myself from Green Bay and other Wisco waters.

Kropp's is the only place I know of that serves perch "neat", or "in the round." In other words, with the bones in 'em (you can also ordered them de-boned). That's the old-school way of eating perch in these parts. Old-timers say they taste better.

Is Kropp's anywhere near DePere (St. Norbert)? which is where I'll be Friday evening. Also, any update on the Stevens Point HC search?

Thanks. This old-timer prefers no bones. Even then several years ago, got a bone stuck in the back of my throat. Had to have a doctor remove it. Only time that happened.
I only have perch when I eat out. At home, I buy tilapia. Good tasting, mild white fish and relatively inexpensive. I've never seen perch in the supermarkets so don't know what it would cost per pound.
Oh, and hard to find perch in the restaurants unless you're along Lake Erie.
Great chatting with you. Be safe! ☠🏈🐡

Almost forgot, walleye is a major food fish from Lake Erie. Tastes like perch only a much bigger fish. Festivals are held each year along Lake Erie in celebration of perch and walleye. Good stuff !
In case you were wondering, and even if you weren't, Alliance is about 60 miles south of Cleveland, so not a big drive to get to "the lake". 🐡🐡

Kropp's is 10-15 minutes way from Norbs. When you there? End of July? If so, you'll be sharing campus with none other than the Green Bay Packers, who use the dorms and dining facilities during training camp.

No news from UWSP. Each of the four finalists held their "community open forum"... those were done by mid-June. JMO, it's kind of crazy that on 6/28 you don't have a head coach in place for a WIAC program.

Yep, July 27th to be exact. Agree on the HC thing at SP. There will be a lot of work to be done in a short period of time for the new coach.
