WIAC One Liners:

UW-O: 206 total yards, 2 for 13 on 3rd down, and 39 passing yards leaves Oshkosh with the most to prove among the WIAC contenders.

UW-W: too many penalties but stifling defense and array of playmakers on offense has this team within grasp of former success.

UW-P: impressive response to a poor first half and fate will likely be decided by which half is indicative of the real Platteville defense.

UW-L: offense is explosive but defense giving up 483 yards and 4.9 yards per rush to Luther is a problem.

UW-RF: No idea how to draw any real conclusions against an opponent like Minnesota Morris.

UW-Stout- couldn't pull off another MIAC upset.

UWSP- expected result for rebuilding Pointers.

UW-EC- Nice and much needed win for Blugolds

I will say this for Stevens point. They've got some dame good athletes at receiver, and their quarterback isn't too bad himself. They ran for less than 80 yards, but threw for over 300, mostly quick slants. I think they might be closer than people think

Right out of the emma playbook.

Jake Kumerow of WW made the Packers opening day roster and Platteville's Dan Arnold made the Saints opening day roster, congrats to both.

Pre-season results:

Packers with Jake Kumerow: 2-0
Packers without Jake Kumerow: 0-2

You can't argue with stats.

But I'll try! ;)

2008 Lions pre-season:  4-0
2008 Lions regular season:  0-16

Pre-season games are SLIGHTLY about play and player tryouts; they are MOSTLY a money grab by owners.  Don't EVER try to convince a Lions' fan that pre-season games prove anything! :o ;D

[Nevertheless, good luck to Jake!!]

For the record, the first pass completion of the 2018 Warhawk season was a 3rd down slant good for the first- first down of the 2018 season.
Just saying.

Hey fellas.

Been reading a lot and not posting. Finally figured out my password to log in again. lol.

Its time for the season to begin!

Feeling optimistic that the Warhawk offense will look a bit more lively now with a new OC - let us pray...

Last year's team was pretty great, but couldn't score when it needed to. Hopefully this is cured. I haven't seen too much about the new OC yet, where did he come from, etc..
Looking forward to see if the changes help return the Hawks to elite levels or just stay pretty darn good.

You showing up on Oct 6th??  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Two favorable stats from RF game: Sam Altena, transfer from D2 Northern State (red shirt) was 19/152 and 3 scores. Alex Herink, WIAC POY, 2017 in bb, caught two passes, both for touchdowns, in his first football game since high school.

I didn't want to jump to any conclusions after watching the Titans/Carthage game (online, not in person), so I've waited a couple days before posting. First, I was very impressed with the Carthage defense. The front seven was very stout and the secondary played an aggressive style of man-to-man coverage. On a positive note for the Titans, I thought the defense was very good and dictated a lot of the action from that side of the ball. They probably weren't as tested as they would've been, had the Carthage starting QB not gotten injured. They forced 4 turnovers, which is always a plus. Offensively there were some concerns. The game plan was ultra-conservative. I get this. The Titans were starting a new QB and the strength of the team is expected to be the offensive line. The offensive line was solid, but not spectacular. They averaged 3.9 yards against a very good defense. They were creative in the run game, involving both Toderello and Moon. Let's get to the elephant in the room ... the quarterback play. Brett Kasper isn't walking through the door. :D The position was 10-19 for 39 yards (and a long of 8). There were not many throws down the field. If they did throw downfield, they we along the sideline and jump balls. Obviously, this position is going to need to be more productive to compete in the WIAC and on the national stage. I have the utmost confidence in this coaching staff, and I think the position and game plan will look a lot differently as the season progresses. My biggest concern is what looks like a lack of difference makers on offense. Toderello is a game changer, but he's not a pure WR or RB. The RBs are capable, but I don't know if they can make yardage on their own like Hecker did. This was a solid win against a solid CCIW team. But I'm just not sure I saw enough difference makers on the field for a team ranked #4. Hopefully those players will show out in the coming weeks. Davenport hammered Robert Morris, a typically solid NAIA school, this weekend. Lincoln (Mo) beat Lane College 10-7 over the weekend. I honestly don't know much about either team. It appears, these next two weeks will be a huge test for the Titans.

Did Duranso get injured or did he come out of the game due to ineffectiveness? Jeez, that game was a battle to the end... I'm also unsure whether to believe I overestimated the Titans or underestimated Carthage

I think the change was made to see if it could spark the offense. Duranso returned for the last drive of the game.
