I had a discussion elsewhere about how every D3 school should follow the MIAC naming conventions (St John's Johnnies, Tommies, Oles, Bennies, Gusties, etc). I suggested that the UW-Platteville Platties should have a Platypus as their mascot, so a friend photoshopped this helmet:

Whitewater Whities.

That would be a PR disaster. Pass.

PR disaster, but well played

Below is the link to the Wabash - Stevens Point game at Wabash this weekend.  The forecast is not good as heavy rain is predicted throughout the day.  The Pointers passing game may have problems, which would greatly benefit Wabash.

Safe travels to those who choose to make the trek to Crawfordsville.  If the forecast  holds true, the tailgating will be significantly impacted.  Please feel free to join us on the south side of the stadium.

I'm very intrigued to see how the Titans fare tomorrow at Davenport. I don't know for sure, but I feel this is the tougher of the two D-II opponents. I liked their chances when the schedule first came out, but I'm not sure now. We will be at a definite size disadvantage against Davenport. The Davenport o-line averages 6-3/304. The D-Line is 6-3/261. Davenport held Robert Morris to 95 total yards. Robert Morris is 0-2 and they've played the #1 NAIA and a D2, so I don't know where they stand. In the past they would be competitive with WIAC teams. I had thought that our physicality would be an advantage. I don't know if this will be the case. And I don't know if we have the athletes on this team to hang with a D-II. Hopefully our D can force a few turnovers and give the offense a short field. This will be interesting. Hopefully we can stay healthy and get some good experience that will help us come the WIAC slate.

Something is going wrong with Robert Morris.  They were 2-9 last year and have gotten blown off the field their first two games this year. The Titans will be all right.  Last year was Davenport's first in D-II and they won only one game.  The year before they were a 6-5 NAIA team.  If the Titans are anywhere near the team they have been the past several years, they should post a solid win as long as they don 't turn the ball over.

I think it's now safe to say they are nowhere near the team they have been. The defense is incredible but the offense is a total mess. The quarterbacks don't have strong arms, the receivers can't create space and to make matters worse the line isn't opening running lanes for the backs. They have a lot to work on before WIAC play and I'm not sure these things are fixable.

RF loses 27-32 at Bethel. Alex Herink, POY in b.b., 2017, all conference 2017, 2018 caught 2 passes for t.d. and now has 4 catches for 4 t.d. in first two games. RF passing, running games below expectations. Ben Beckman 18/39 passing, Sam Altena rushed for 55 yrds on 19 carries. Bethel D much tougher than Minn. Morris's. Bethel q.b.'s 20/29 completions, Bethel 3rd down conversion 44%, RF's 17%. RF played from behind the whole game, but played hard throughout.

Outstanding on D for the Falcons were Max Praschak, WIAC leading tackler a year ago, with 19 total tackles, 11 solo; and Mitch Dienger with 10 total tackles, 8 solo.

Yeah, shocking loss to a bad D2 team.

I'm not going to be too quick to jump to conclusions on this UWO team. As we were driving home from Canada today I was able to watch the first half. Davenport may or may not be a "bad D2" team, but they surely aren't a bad D3 team. They are very fast on O and D. Their one and only TD was a great/athletic catch on a fade route into the end zone with excellent coverage.
Yes, UWO looks much less potent offensively, but they are obviously trying to work some things out. There were fast playmakers on the Davenport D that UWO won't see in the WIAC.

I only watched the first half of the Oshkosh/Davenport game, but I didn't miss much it doesn't appear. The Titans lack playmakers. The QB position is weak. It's not just weak for a team that was picked to be a national title contender, it appears weak in general. The quarterbacks that have played for this team, just don't look like college quarterbacks. The arm strength just isn't there. The athleticism just isn't there. Perhaps players didn't want to come the last few years knowing they would sit behind Kasper, but I don't see a conference winning quarterback on this roster. The defense is really stout. But they can't get a stop every possession, especially in the WIAC. I don't see any way this team can compete with Whitewater, Platteville, and LAX with this offense. The team is 3 for 26 on third-down conversions. You can't win in this league with that type of production.

Caught just a little bit of the UWL - IWU game. The UWL threw a couple of the most perfect TD passes you will see. They looked sharp in the plays I was able to see. Congratulations to them on a great win.
