Still a bit confused why all the Davenport numbers- can anybody actually translate Davenport's success or lack thereof against other scholarship programs into D3 performance? Other than Hansen running some creative algorithms that still won't include any head to head comparisons, it seems UWO should be compared to other D3 teams based only on its D3 performance.
Carthage and UWP couldn't beat them.

I'm guessing it's because there are a whole lot of D-III teams considered significantly better than Carthage and UWP.  So people are trying to determine how high to rank UW-0 within the strata of teams above Carthage and UWP. So people are trying to figure out what to make of their split with the D-II's.  Unsurprisingly, people have varied opinions about that.

A lot late but here are some pics from the Oshkosh game  A few Warhawk Alumni  and a Green Bay Packer:

Looking at Davenport's 6-1 record:

D2 schools:
Wayne State 1-6
Northern Michigan 1-6
Michigan Tech 3-4
Northwood 2-5 (L)

NAIA schools:
Quincy 2-5
St. Francis IL 2-5

Not sure I understand the point of this post unless it's just a public service announcement, like hey- be sure to wash your hands before handling food.

As far as I know, all the schools listed above have scholarship athletes, which really should be the end of discussion.
Anyway, I don't think another D3 team has played any of them, so we have no comparison of a D3 team result.
The D3 game and WIAC schedule played by UWO provides pollsters all the data they need to rank them. UWO beat two D3 teams in/around the top 25- should be enough said.

Duff, I know you don't care, but I think highly of the Johnnies and the rankings at this point aren't important. This is just banter. I'm bantering the pollsters moved the Johnnies up too high. If the pollsters thought UWW was ahead of the Johnnies prior to last week, I'm surprised they feel the results of the weekend changed the order.

I don't think you can confer NAIA football teams the same status you give D2s based on the fact that they offer "scholarships." For my money, D3s and NAIAs are pretty much apples to apples as they essentially recruit the same kids.

My experience with NAIAs is limited but here, in very rough numbers, is what I saw: Let's say you have three high school seniors, each with a 20 on the ACT and a 3.2 GPA -- solid, but unspectacular. One is a non-athlete and a mediocre trumpet player, one is a 6-0, 250 lb all-conference O lineman, the third a 6-5, 250 lb all-conference O lineman. Each is considering nearby NAIA and D2 schools.

The NAIA school tells the trumpet player, "Come join our pep band! We'll give you $15k in grants, academic and music scholarships. Your net cost: $15k/year."

The D2 tells the trumpet player, "Leave the noisemaker at home. We'll give you $15k in grants and academic scholarships. Your net cost: $15k/yr."

The NAIA tells the 6-0 O lineman, "We'll offer you a $5k ATHLETIC scholarship and $10k in grants and academic scholarships. Your net cost: $15k/yr."

The D2 tells the 6-0 O lineman, "You are welcome to try to walk on to the football team. We'll give you $15k in grants and academic scholarships. Your net cost: $15k/yr."

The NAIA tells the 6-5 O lineman, "We'll offer you a $5k ATHLETIC scholarship and $10k in grants and academic scholarships. Your net cost: $15k/yr."

The D2 tells the 6-5 O lineman, "We'll offer you a $5k ATHLETIC scholarship and $15k in grants and academic scholarships. Your net cost: $10k/yr."

Your pricing may vary, and admittedly I'm painting this with a broad stroke. But IMO D2s are a different animal because they offer a real and significant financial benefit for playing football at their college, and therefore recruit a higher-caliber football player. NAIAs, at least in my limited experience, do not appear to offer significant financial benefits to those playing football vs the students who do not, and therefore draw from the same pool as D3s. As a result, D3 vs NAIA game results, are worthy of apples-to-apples review, at least on a greater scale than D3s vs D2s.

I know there is a WIAC pick em page. I like to get deep into games and talk about what people are seeing and why. Here is my thoughts on this weekend.

Stout vs Point- I think Stout gets this game by 10. Stout has some playmakers on the edge. The defense is good. My only concern in this game is that is the back from Stout going to play. Point is the only team in the WIAC that I have not seen play yet this year. New head coach and a freshman QB is not normally a good combo in this league. Give me stout 24-14.

River vs Whitewater- Two years ago RF went into UWW and took them to an OT game. Last year RF lost 20-7. I don't get why UWRF always plays them tough. I do not think this year the year that UWRF gets them. I do think UWRF will have some success moving the football in this game. UWW on homcoming will be far to much for the Falcons to handle. UWW 31 UWRF 14

UWO vs UWL- I am sure there are a lot of people out there that think this will be a great game and match up of the weekend. I just do not see it at all. UWO has struggled on O against the really good teams in this league. I do not see UWL being one of the top this year. UWO D is the real deal. They will get up for this game. UWO 28 UWL 10

UWP vs UWEC- This has the making for a long day for UWEC. I have said it all along I think that UWEC might be the most improved team in this league, but I do not see them being able to slow down UWP. UWP is not the same they have been in the past, but they are still a very solid football team. UWP 42 UWEC 13

I will be interested to hear what everyone thinks!

If it's not Bleed, it's his next of kin.
I'm surprised Bleed Jr. didn't list the 2014 UWRF game as well, what a classic that was. Remember the immediate reaction to that game? UWW isn't the same UWW, how can they almost lose to UWRF?
I guess there is some sort of lesson in putting too much emphasis on a single game when trying to project future performance.

I'm down with all of the above, Brad, but I do think Stout puts a bigger margin on Point than that. Point's had some tough luck at qb the last couple years.

UWRF is again a wild card. Besides the UWW game referenced by others, they almost snuck by UWO last year. I also like seeing that they're going to Herink more. 16 catches, 276 yards the last three games. My two cents -- he'll end up in an NFL camp next year.

Well done, Brad.  I think you are right on the money with your picks. On second thought, I'm not sure RF will put two TD's on the board against WW. And until someone scores against them, I'm not going to predict it. So, I'm going with  38-0 on that one. Otherwise, I like 'em!

I remain unconvinced that the UWO D is the "real deal" this year. I need proof that they are more than just pretty good.

Possible. At 6-7, he'll need some ball skills that I haven't seen out of him, but he can shoot. I think his ceiling is higher as a pass-catcher though. He'd be a Prospect with a capital P.

I think you nailed it- UWL is UWP. They both seem to have offenses that can take advantage of teams w average defensive talent, but lack strength on the LOS.
UWP v UWL next week should be real interesting.
