I was at the Stout/WW game and saw one very good team that didn't need to work quite so hard  trying to score more points after the outcome was no longer in doubt.  But that is probably just me being very old school.

Seriously? I think that is not old school, it's ancient school thinking. As in pre-two point conversion school. Once UW-W took a 30 point lead with 9 1/2 minutes left in the game, we used our backup QB's and only threw one pass the rest of the game. Before that, our lead was 24, which in the modern, 2 point era, is only three scores. Crazy things happen in football games. I'm sorry but I don't want our guys taking their foot off the gas with a three score lead with most of the fourth quarter remaining.

Not only that, and I think more to the point, you want to see what your backups can do during real game conditions. Maybe someone who hasn't impressed in practice will show he's a gamer. Plus you will prepare those reserves when, and if, they are NEEDED to play due to injury or whatever.

Brad

Lets talk about this crazy weekend of WIAC Football.

UWO vs UWEC- UWEC came back to life last week against UWRF. They did have 515 yards of offense which is a ton for them. Their defense struggled to stop UWRF WR. UWRF did have a def touch last year. I think this will be tighter than most would think. I will be interested to see how UWO handles being done this early in the season. Will they pack it in since they won't be in the playoffs, or will they be fired up to go out and crush UWEC. I see this as a tight game. UWO 24 UWEC 14

UWW vs UWSP- Great win for UWSP. Something to take into the offseason and build on. Just no way they build on it this week. Whitewater OL will maul up front. This will be done by half. UWW 48 UWSP 7.

UWRF vs UWL- This will be the best match up of the weekend I think. UWRF can throw the ball and UWL is 7th in the league in pass D. UWL can thrown the ball and UWRF is last in the league in past D. The Herink kid is legit good as I have said past 2 weeks. UWL coming in off a good win against UWP, however, UWP was missing their starting QB and Mark Johnson was out. UWL won last year 56-7 at UWRF. This will be a much different game. UWL 35 UWRF 28

UWP vs UWSTOUT- I do not even know where to start with this match up. Has UWP packed it in for the year? Will Schuetz play this week? Will Graham play? Stout is at home in a game where you can not figure out either team. I think Stout gets this one at home 31-28

BW.  You just have to let that "Take that, Whitewater" quote go but we have had a good time with it, haven't we :'(    And bleedpurple, as usual, you are right and I am wrong.  I think I will just let that one go.

And here's the conundrum when it comes to recruiting more posters. Stoutguy's initial post gets us excited to have more participants. However, two of his posts are of a nature that draw natural rebuttal. I imagine we will lose him again because his comments/opinions were challenged- not only by UWW fans, but by others because quite frankly, they deserved to be challenged.

For future posters, this is a discussion board where people share and debate opinions. If you're going to drop in with a comment, especially one accusing UWW of essentially running up the score to get to 40 whole points, you're going to be challenged - even by reasonable people.

Point hammered us my junior year 76-6. Yes, you read that correctly. I still have nightmares about that game, but I never really thought they were running up the score. Point rarely threw the ball, because we never stopped the run. Due to injuries we had a converted WR playing QB and we turned it over a bunch, resulting in many short fields for the pointers. I may have led the team in tackles that day thwarting interception returns. I tell everyone that will listen that the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. :D

Thank you for that, Emma. I know a couple of years ago someone posted something to the effect that UW-W posters "piled on" other posters.  I truly have never seen that to be the case. As you pointed out so well, some comments deserve to be challenged. Discussions don't occur without responses to posts. Otherwise, this board would be just a random collection of posts lacking context, depth, or value...in other words,  Facebook.  ;)

Dang, it's gettin' real over here.  :o

Right?

I can say, I've never heard anyone refer to a Whitewater smokefest.

Just saying.

That was noble of you Emma, to defend bleedpurple.  Reminds me of a post I made several years ago (I realize this is a football board) about how I thought Pat Miller was really out of control on the sidelines.  Apparently that was worthy of challenge too, because the WW faithful drilled me to the max.  Did they "pile on?"  I thought so but perhaps that comment,  too, was lacking context, depth, and value so perhaps would have been better served on Facebook.

For the record, I wasn't referring to your specific post as lacking context, depth, and value. I was talking about how I would perceive a board in which we didn't interact with one another, but rather posted our own thoughts.

Having said that, your post regarding Pat Miller several years ago DID lack context, depth, and value. Not even worthy of Facebook.

This thread has the distinct feeling of Deja Vu.  It's like I've seen it before...  Yes!  That's it.  I have seen it before.
