According to an article in the La Crosse Tribune, Coach Mike Schmidt was quoted as saying:

"We're playing as well as anybody, again, right now," Eagles coach Mike Schmidt said. "I don't think anybody's saying, 'We want to play La Crosse.'

Two thoughts:
I doubt very much they are playing as well as anyone.

I think he mean as well as anyone in the WIAC, which is certainly true.

Is it though?

Kind of a ridiculous comment by Schmidt. He knows it's not true, but it sounds nice for the program to end the season on. UWW would crush them.... again.

Congratulations to the UW-Whitewater Warhawks for your undefeated season and WIAC leading 36th conference championship. It is the first time since 2010 a WIAC team has won all of it's conference games by at least 20 points.

La Crosse wrapped up second place with a 5-2 conference mark. It is their best finish since 2006. The lofty position seems to have gotten to the Eagles a little bit.

They have a three game winning streak against the three teams that finished in a tie for last in the WIAC. Of course that in itself isn't proof that they aren't playing as well as anyone. But it isn't great evidence to back up that claim, either.

Secondly, he is right about one thing.  No one is saying "We want to play La Crosse." Mostly because no one is thinking about La Crosse.

I think the sport of lacrosse is gaining in popularity, he's definitely in the wrong camp with that thought.

Eureka!

I think the committee got things spot on for a change.
I'VE REACHED THAT AGE

SHOULDN'T SAY THAT," TO
"WHAT THE HELL, LET'S SEE
WHAT HAPPENS."

Eureka!

Massey only gives UWW a 100% chance of winning. Good luck with that  ;D

Hope to see you in a few weeks Hazz.  Much respect to the Royals!

Love to, here's to us holding up our end of the bargain, beginning with the always well coached Wartburg Knights!

Wow. SJU got shafted. No top seed and they have to play MHB in round 3. Congrats on finishing undefeated in a tough conference, now fly to Belton in three weeks.

I would have switched SJU and Bethel.

Thanks for noticing. And if they win through three rounds, it's probably UWW in W.

A fourth home game would be awesome! Go Johnnies.

In the meantime, time to strap it up with a win or go home mindset. Pound the Rock, Hawks!

Congrats to Wisconsin Whitewater on a undefeated season. Best of luck in the post season.

UWO Titan 78

The Titans should have a very interesting QB battle in the Spring. Steve Makinen came off the bench Saturday to complete 18-of-26 for 283 yards and a TD against a solid Stout team. Makinen is the biggest (6-2/220) of the three QBs that saw action this season, and he seems to have the strongest arm. He made some very good throws. He was 1-of-7 coming into the game, so to say his performance was unexpected would be an understatement. I'm sure they will be hitting the recruiting trail hard as well, but from the eye test, Makinen looks to be the most talented player they have returning at the position. As a Frosh, he seems to have the most upside as well. We lose a lot this year, so we may be a couple years away from competing for the conference title, but it would be nice to solidify the QB position. There is an old saying: when you have two QBs, you really have none. Hopefully we find one.

Good luck to the Warhawks in the postseason.

Props to Makinen. Based on the high school exploits of the top 3 QBs there, I would not have expected him to be the last man standing. Still scratching my head about how Duranso lost not only the starting job, but backup as well.

With UWRF QB getting ejected last week in the second half for 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties -- does he need to sit first half of next game?

It appears that two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties with a 2nd half DQ are treated differently than a targeting with DQ in 2nd half.  Beckman sat the first series and played remainder of the game.

Amen, brother.

Some kvetching from UWL people about not getting an at-large bid. They had to know they weren't even in the conversation with 3 losses, but they're closer than y'all giving them credit for. A quality win over IWU, D3 losses only to UWW and UWO, which was healthy and No. 12 at the time. For what it's worth, the NAIA team they lost to (Dickinson State) went 8-2.

Only 8 seniors on the 44-man two-deep. They're positioned to be UWW's top WIAC challenger next year.
