I think 65 is generous. Parks for UST is as good, with a much better offense around him, and Bethel held him to under 50.

The crux of the issue is that he's going to be under duress all game long and his Oline will be significantly outmatched. See UST's D results from last year. I know, now he's a senior. But he's also qqq facing a better defensive front.

I read D3fooball's write-up of each region. I was kind of shocked to see all the Wartburg and NCC love against Bethel. I guess we'll see. The potential matchup between NCC and Bethel will be the best game in the second round.

On a side note...jeez, Mount Union can sleep walk to the Stagg Bowl. Again.w
ww

Mount can't sleep walk past John Carroll. I'm sure you remember a few years back. I know! I know! Different teams but still. I think John Carroll beats a whole bunch of playoff teams. No sleep walk here! 😄

Maybe not 8 hours of deep sleep, but JCU will be like waking up to fix the covers or hit the head- you'll hop right back in bed and wake up in Texas.

Thanks emma17. I needed that! Best to ya! 😃🍺❗️
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

All-Conference teams announced...

Wow. More UWW heavy than usual. 11 1st team members  :o A little surprised Parish was picked over Wisniewski at WR.

Congrats to Coach Bullis, Cole and Harry for POY

Congratulations to UWW players and coach. It's nice to see so many Warhawks.
Very interesting w Parish over Wiz, was it the big game Parish had v UWO?

Good problem to have. Especially knowing that those two can battle for 1st team all WIAC in two more seasons after this.  8-)

Congrats to Coach Bullis and all who earned All-Conference honors. Each of them were much deserved. Performance wise, great arguments could be made for four or five other first-teamers as well.   Not complaining at all. I know the league will go only so far in terms of numbers of players on one team making first team. And as Coach Bullis will undoubtedly point out, his award is a reflection of a fantastic job by the entire coaching staff. But make no mistake about it, Coach Bull deserves the Coach of the Year Award.

Truthfully, these awards are a credit to every single player and every single coach in the locker room. With team success, comes individual accolades.  As cool as these awards are, they have nothing to do with the mission of the 2018 Warhawks.
So congrats, that's awesome...now let's put them aside and go pound some rock!!

The only thing I can think of is that they weren't going to give UW-W two first team receivers and JT's 27.7 ypc stat was too gaudy for them to leave him off. Both very deserving!

That's just fine. I've got no problem when people underestimate this team. I think it's been happening all season and the team is really wearing it as a badge of honor.

That said, Wartburg is always tough. They are fundamentally sound and well coached. They've got a solid D and a really good QB. They've also got more playoff experience on the roster. North Central is actually a similar description.

If Bethel faces UWW they'll have to have beaten two teams playing really well down the stretch and peaking at the right time (same can be said for Bethel). Two very good defenses. And two of the most efficient passers in all of D3, with very explosive offenses at their finger tips.

Fun time of year. There are always a few teams that will get rolled badly in Rd 1. And there are several Elite teams. But the middle 20ish are always good for some surprises. Sometimes it's an upset. Sometimes it's a surprising route and a team that then goes on a run.

I think we all love the anticipation the playoffs bring! Good luck to the Royals, Hazz.  Hope to see them in Whitewater a couple weeks from Saturday!

When you run the table and the next team has two conference losses, it makes sense.

Getting back to the issue at hand. I read an article in this morning's Janesville paper that sang the praises of Reasnover. It was quite positive. However, and maybe as a non WIAC boot licker, I can post this.

I'm a reasonably healthy 68 year old. I could probably tear up a Pop Warner league. Put me in against high schoolers, and I'm dead in the water. Maybe even against middle school also. The quality of competition is a great factor. I see that Eureka was beaten (by 1) by Lakeland. Platteville crushed Lakeland 42 - 12. I'm not one for these chain comparisons, but, in this case, there is such a disparity in talent and competition, that it is pretty obvious what lies ahead for Eureka. Reasnover may be a RB who could be the featured back for UWW, but he doesn't have the players around him to do what he has been doing this year on Saturday.

Saturday's box score will read: 65 yards on 21 carries, 1 TD (which will come late in the 4th).

Eureka's offensive will need a pair of binoculars just to get a glimpse of the endzone during this game. Their defense will become best friends with it, with their backs to it all game.  As for this kid, I've never seen him play, so I have no idea how many carries he gets & if he makes it through the entire game. But I doubt he averages more than 1.5/carry and obviously no scores.

My train of thought is he's a senior, so he'll play a ton in his final game. When UWW is resting their defense, when the game is out of hand, he'll be able to pick up some yards and get into the endzone against UWW's 2nd and 3rd unit.

First have numbers for him however....probably won't be pretty.

There isn't much of a third unit with reduce rosters come playoff time?

58 man rosters during playoffs. What's disappointing though is that the guys who aren't suited up can't be on the sideline either. Kind of sucks for this guys who have been hard all year

It's always a weird feeling at SJU--you're used to 185 Johnnies running out onto the field, but only 1/3 of that comes out for a playoff game.

Good god!!! :o

That right there explains exactly why size of the school doesn't matter in college football. Recruit the most good players you can out of high school and let the cream rise to the top.

It is an impressive sea of red!

With regard to school size, you also have to factor in that SJU is an all-male institution.  If you look at the combined enrollment of SJU and St. Ben's (their academics are combined), it is a larger institution than SJU's enrollment suggests at first-glance.
