In the 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2013 seasons UWW started a new QB (Jones, Donovan, Blanchard and Behrendt) for the season, and made the Stagg (winning three).
In the three championship teams above, there was also a 1st year OC.

I'll drink whatever he's drinking!  ;D

In all seriousness, this is the time of year when hope springs eternal for all our programs. But that's some seriously elite company you're putting the new starter in. Is there any particular reason for the ultra-high optimism about his prospects?

Hope selling season is upon us. He's either onto something or on something. We'll soon find out.

Likely both.
Let's face it, any specific reasons I give will be applicable to many programs. That said, focusing on UWW's history, we've had two QB's transfer in and win- Jones and Blanchard. Jones was a starter for the program he left (I don't think the same is true for Blanchard, but he was younger). Behrendt came from an IL high school (Nazareth Academy) where he and his team played against great competition.
The crop of new QB's this year includes players in both categories. Transfers w starting experience and high schools that competed at the highest levels. Add an experienced receiver corp with excellent running backs and there is reason to think this can be a special year.

Oh wow, I assumed you were referring to a new QB that was a clear front runner. I didn't realize it was a wide open race. That said, competition is a good thing, and if you've got 2 or even 3 good candidates fighting it out, and a clear starter emerges, could bode well. On the other hand, the old adage, "if you've got two starting QB's you've really got no starting QB's."

On the hole, love that we are a stones throw away from the season starting! Good stuff

While I'm aware of the reported additions to the UWW QB pool, I don't know that I'd rank any of them on the same tier—yet—with the two returning backups, Demark and Oles, presuming they are returning. Not yet anyway. What I saw of both those guys suggests to me they could be better than the guy they're vying to replace. Completely different skill sets, though. Demark very pro style; Oles, only 5-11, seems more RPO oriented, and more Wilber-like. Oles had the edge in PT last year but they certainly made a point of getting Demark some higher-leverage snaps as well.

Whoever ends up the starter will be a different type of athlete than Wilbur.  Whoever comes out won't have an arm as strong as Wilbur's was.  But one thing they'll have over him is their ability to improvise and create something out of a broken play.  They'll be more mobile and that will change the offense to some degree.

I really don't see Oles as "Wilbur-like" at all.  His game is very different IMO.

Agreed.  And I'd add that I think if we stay healthy, we will have the athletes to score on anyone, including UMHB.  Wiz and Kumerow are absolutely special talents and Peete, Ware, and Ponick are really formidable.  I also think, when all is said and done, people will be very surprised by the quality of our QB play. I'm right with Emma on this. Chance to be a real special year.

You're probably right on the Oles-Wilber comp but I'm not sure I saw the Wilber arm strength. Demark throws a better deep ball than any of them.

But I should know better than to discuss any D3 team quarterback situations before camp opens. All kinds of moving parts are still moving out there...

I see Oles as very different from Wilbur as well. I was biased toward watching Oles last year as he is a local kid. I got the feeling he was a bit quick to tuck and run. I'm sure that's natural for a kid with his running ability, toughness and high school success playing the same way- I'm truly not certain if that's the best style for UWW football though. I'm willing to convert.

The transfers with college game experience should make an already competitive situation ultra competitive. They will be behind on running Jennings' offense but ahead on game experience.

Fall camp should be a blast to watch.

Admittedly I haven't seen enough of Denmark to get a feel for his arm strength.  Perhaps he throws a more accurate deep ball.  That was a rap on Wilbur at times.  But Wilbur's arm was stronger than anyone we've had since this whole thing began in 2005 imo.  Blanchard and Jacobs had decent arms and Blanchard  was accurate as all get out.  But you don't get an arm like Wilbur's  that often in D3.  However we all know that a strong arm is only a part of the equation.

Depending on what you mean by better

Check out Demark's hudl. Yeah, it's a couple years old now but it demonstrates rainbow accuracy. Otherwise, there's so little recent game stuff to judge these guys on. Neither Denmark nor Oles trust the pocket yet, but that's just QB maturation. IMO Wilber was outstanding in that offense, which was run to maximize his talents, but his backups have/had more talent. Looking forward to see which one - or which other one - takes the gig.

I'm not impressed by the D2 transfers-yet. There are, by my estimation, several bazillion misplaced D2 football players, some of whom will decide they'll grace a D3 with their presence, only to find they're not good enough to crack a lineup there either.

I've lost count of how many QB hudl videos I watched in my life (I'm pretty old) and amazingly I've never seen one throw an interception.  Not a single one. It's uncanny.  ;) ;)

Awesome looking bus! I love how they've listed all the years they've won the Stagg Bowl right under their "Titans are Champions" slogan!
