It's hard to get a feel for the offense this year to date compared to last year to date and to the last championship years because of the changes in OC. Although I am inclined to say Jennings' approach to O scheme more resembles Smiths' approach than it does Kotelnicki's from 2013 and 2014.
I think that may be a subject for another time.

As for the offense this year and the 7 drives that ended up w field goal attempts, we just don't know what Jennings' big picture plan is. For instance, on the first drive v C-M he chose to go Wildcat on third and short. UWW got stopped and kicked a field goal. Is this his natural philosophy or is he willing to sacrifice some points in non con games in order to explore his options and maybe put stuff on tape? Does Jennings' personality lend itself to a "every drive is critical" sort of mindset? I don't know. I know he's got to do what he thinks makes sense to help Oles and the offense succeed, and with a first year starter he's got a lot on his plate.

Why would no Division III conference take Thomas More? Was geography the challenge?

Thomas More isn't back in the NAIA by choice. They are there because no D-III conference would take them and it's not really viable to try to be an independent.

Pat:

(seconding sjujohnnie's question) :)...Would you (or SaintsFan) kindly remind us why Thomas More just didn't stay in the PAC?  Wasn't it the travel distance costs? Or were there other reasons between them and the league?

Ahem well ... the official announcement said it was Thomas More's decision to leave, but who leaves a conference voluntarily without having a place to go?

The area conferences did not have a spot for Thomas More, and the conferences that would be open to them were ones such as the WIAC or the CAC (no football).

Because Thomas More had that compliance issue with women's basketball, it made them less-desirable to other Division III schools. I would have liked to see them go to the OAC, with Wilmington returning to the HCAC, but it was not to be.

Was cool to see Jake Kumerow on the field for the Packers!

Brad and BW--sure hope you guys are right, but I'm not sure at all. Waldorf has 12 guys at 300+. RF has one.

Also, W. (1-1) beat Briar Cliff, a team that used to give UWRF fits in the Farley era, when we won more than lost. Unless Falcons can run, and we could not vs. Bethel, it could be a long afternoon. Our qb was 16/40 vs. Bethel w/2 ints. He also threw for 3 td's. but Falcons were forced to throw more than they wanted to.

Well, with a return to the HCAC being not an option (for all the reasons/history as you, SaintsFAN, have shared with us in the past-which was the HCAC's loss, IMO), I agree with Pat in the option he would have liked to have happened i.e. Thomas More going to the OAC with Wilmington returning to the HCAC.  Both would have been appropriate fits at this current time with regard to the status of their respective football programs (and still good academic fits both either as well I believe.)

Briar Cliff is pretty bad. Not sure when the "Farley era" was but they've been a bottom feeder in the GPAC NAIA conference for a while. Waldorf is a good chance for a win for UWRF, IMO.

The bottom line to me is- you better beat teams from schools with the names of Briar Cliff (brings to mind a beautiful suburban subdivision) and Waldorf (so many non-football images come to mind- but I do see the possibility of a chant for a defensive stand Game of Thrones style- HoldDorf, HoldDorf, HoldDorf). Can you imagine answering your buddies' questions of "how'd you do" and "who'd you play"?

Falcons lose 27-24 in the last minute to a good Waldorf team which included Jeff Jones, 23, who "signed his national letter of intent Wednesday, and Waldorf's football team announced the news on Twitter. The team plays at the NAIA level. Jones was one of the highest-rated recruits in Gophers history when he signed with them after earning MVP honors at the Under Armour All-American Game in 2014."

But he's not their only good player. Several other W. players showed to good advantage. I was encouraged by the RF performance, however, as both the offense and defense played well.

A week after Temple beat a surging Maryland, the Owls are getting crushed at Buffalo. Not much has gone the Bulls' way this season, but Lance Leipold is a terrific coach.
