If there's anyone close to the UWW program that could answer this, it would be much appreciated.
I enjoy watching the talent in this conference.
So what's up with Alex Peete? Wasn't he preseason All American? Just looked at his season stats and they're garbage. Better RB's on roster? Overrated? Bad o-line play? Injured?
A 3.36 avg. for season and 1.91 avg. last 2 games isnt what I expected  from a  preseason all american.
Anyone watching the games have any answers for me?

I didn't agree with him being preseason AA in the first place. He's good but not that good. And the oline hasn't been very good as well.

UWO Titan 78

I was able to watch part of the Titans/Huntingdon game on Saturday. It was a solid win by the Titans, but there are still question marks. The QB played well and I'm optimistic, but he took some punishment on some runs, and he needs to learn how to stay out of harm's way. The defense is solid, but they are missing the difference makers that they've had in the past (Jennings, Plewa, Dziedzic, Eagan, etc). The offense is pedestrian at this point. Dylan Hecker and Brett Kasper are not walking through that door. They have some solid skill players (Gerend, Kallas, Maccudden), but the offensive line is not going to push around many WIAC defenses. This Huntingdon defense was not good. The Titan offensive run game is methodical, and a lot of their plays take longer to develop. They use a lot of misdirection and don't have too many quick-hitting plays. This forces the offensive line to hold blocks longer. Young and inexperienced players will struggle with this, especially against the physical lines in the WIAC. They are not generating enough push in the interior to give backs creases inside. When they were at their best, they would dominate at the point of attack (with guys like Summers, Powers, etc). When they were able to contend with UWW and the nation's elite, they were winning the battle at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. I didn't see that last year, and I don't see that this year at this point.

Nothing eye-popping about any of the DubDub RB's numbers, yer right about that. But they are averaging more than 150 yards a game on the ground. And they've faced three defenses that are pretty dang good.

I'm less in awe of the Warhawks than I was a couple weeks ago. I just don't see a threat to them in the WIAC... yet

I didn't see the game online, but I was surprised by the stats from UWW's game last week. It looked like they were really fortunate to come out with the W. What was the story there? they were outgained by a good margin and gave up a ton of yds passing. Albeit against a really good team on the road.

It looked like the proverbial bend but don't break defense to me.  A lot of the yardage came from passes in front of defensive backs who were playing back off the receiver seemingly to prevent being beaten deep.   The dude threw the ball really well with a really strong wind in and across his face.  The athletes on St X could play in our league.  They also got a bunch of yards because we just didn't really tackle that well.  They missed multiple FGs, had a touchdown nullified and missed another by literally a foot.  Fortunate?  You do the math.  Sometimes better lucky than good.

To our credit the offense made some HUGE third and fourth down plays and the defense forced FG attempts rather than allowing touchdowns.  It wasn't the way we like it but in the end it was a win.  You learn from the experience and move on to the next opponent.

Too many mistakes by St. Xavier:
- FG kicker was only 2 for 6 on the day. Missing from 45 yards, 43 yards, and two from 37 yards.
- Too many stupid penalties (10 for 125 yards!!!)
- Of their 3 punts in the game, two were blocked.

No more "grasping for straws" here. Time to get to work on this weeks plays:

The game that I will attend: UWEC vs UW St Thomas- I mean University of St. Thomas.
This will not be a game. I want to get up and check out another WIAC vs MIAC game. From what I have heard and read, this UWEC struggles to move the football. They have played multiple QB's. St Thomas might win this one by 50. The only saving grace is that UWEC does play good defense. I will be interested to see what this new UWEC offense looks like under the new staff. 52-7

UW Stout at Cal Lutheran- I have no clue why Stout is not better. Bring back a QB who started as a Freshman, get McDonald back and the Levi Hammer kid is a stud. Not sure where their stud RB that was a junior last year is. I think his number was 1 or 5. Stout taking a big trip to Cali needs a win. I just do not think they get it.  Cal L win 28-27

UWP at Lakeland- This will be Ugly from the start. UWP wins in a run away 56-14. UWP is my sleeper team I will go on record saying it again.

Pat Coleman

45, 43 and two 37's are no gimmes at our level and I would have to think not at their level either.

Plus, with 24 scholarships to divide up among that many kids, how much of a scholarship is a kicker getting, anyway?

Josiah Johnson should have earned the UWEC QB gig by now. He's just been better than Malueg, and if not for some questionable clock management at the end of the St Norbert game, he could be taking a 2-0 team to StT. I might tune this one in on the computer. Won't pick em to win but I think EC competes here.

Stout is still pretty good, even at 0-2. Toe-to-toe with St Johns, and Gustavus Adolphus just isn't gonna get the credit they deserve in that league. Still expect Stout to be better than .500 in WIAC play. I think they win out west.

I won't be surprised to see this one still in play into the 2nd half. I'm not sure what EC lost from last year's team that knocked off Oshkosh and Platteville, but Caruso is highly complimentary of coach Beschorner, who was a former player for him at South Dakota (Caruso was OC). It should at least be interesting, although I won't complain if it's 52-7.

I don't qualify as "close" like Bleed, but my opinion on the state of UWW football today as it may impact the running game.
-First, I don't know the coaching staff's big picture plan to the season, including how they wanted to play/what they wanted to see in the three non-con games.
-IF the balance of the season is played as the first three games have been played, my over-arching answer is: This is not the UWW offense of the Stagg Bowl runs.
-Through three seasons with Smith and one season + three games with Jennings, the offensive style is clearly different. Imo Smith and Jennings brought in a more modern (sometimes creative) approach to offense. Old fashioned fans like me see creative plays as lost opportunities to perfect "pound the rock" plays.
-Regarding Peete. 1. If there's truth to the adage a RB needs to get lathered up, it's pretty hard to do when the carries are split 36, 31 and 31 between three RB's. 2. Peete had lots of long runs in high school, not happening at UWW. The longest run of any UWW back this year is 19 yards (Peete's is 16 yards). Something is amiss here.
-I've said it before. UWW, under the last two OC's, has moved almost entirely away from motion and shifting. The more power football I watch (like WI v MI, the more convinced I am it was a big advantage for UWW in the old days). They've also moved almost entirely away from the QB taking the snap under center. In addition, I don't think they employ the hurry-up nearly as much as they did.

I think all of the above are factors in Peete's numbers to date.

To add to this, I don't see our Oline wearing down the other team's defense like we used to during UWW's Stagg Bowl days. Back in the LL days, 4-5 yard runs in the first half turned into 20-25 yard runs in the second half, just because the opposing defense was beaten to a pulp all day. Hence, Pound the Rock. With UWW's shift in their offensive style, other team's defenses aren't getting worn down like they used to.

I suppose it would be alright if UWW's passing game was unstoppable under these new coaches....but it's been far from it.

Yeah, I saw that and thought the same Pat. Those aren't gimmy kicks in small college football. Also sounds like his range is probably 35 yds and in (at least on a windy day like that).

Probably a 20/20 hindsight deal for their coaches. That's sorta no-man's land at this level. Probably better off going for it on 4th. But that's much easier to say now, with the cheat sheet final score in front of me.

End of the day, a win is a win against a good opponent like that. I chalked it up to UWW just knowing how to close out close games like this.

I got family up in the MSP area. Johnson was at UWRF last year I believe. How often do you see a kid go from WIAC to WIAC school and start?? Very interesting. I would be curious what happened at UWRF. He is not on UWRF roster from last year, but he also is not on UWEC roster from last year. I can do some research on this.
