First win ever for the Blugolds over St. Thomas since they've started the series back in 2012. Previously lost two close games in 2014 and 2012, both at St. Thomas. Defensive and special teams meltdown cost them in 2012. Combined score from the previous 4 years 200-26 for St. Thomas.

If we had any kind of an offense I'd be a lot more optimistic for the rest of the season. Still, I'm gonna savor this win. Still can't believe it.

Yes, yes, yes!!

Savor it completely! In fact, savor every victory! We wait so long for football season, it seems like we ought to enjoy it when it's here!

I fear too many fans get into such a dissection mode after a victory, they forget to savor it. Then before you know it, the season ends and they wait months to make the same mistake all over again.

I 100% am onboard with this sentiment.  BDB called many Johnnie fans out for this following an unspectacular win over Stout.  I know that I've fallen into the trap many times (and frankly, still do), but these are 18-22 year old kids.  They're not going to be perfect.  Savor those victories!!!  As I'm 17 years beyond my playing career now, I relish all those wins, even though some of them weren't that pretty.
Oh, and the losses still sting, too.  ;D  2001, we lost at home to St. Olaf--never should have lost that one.  Still, we ended up in the national semis that year. :)  And a 2002 loss to UWEC--grrrrr!

I think it's always been sound advice to "stop and smell the roses" along the way.
Maybe that's the practical point of this subject.

When it comes to playing memories, unfortunately, I remember the losses and mistakes much more than the wins and good plays (this could be Bleed's point).

Don't worry.  Someday you'll reach "the older you get, the better you were" stage! ;D

QuoteThe 2019 version of the Little Brass Bell game will feature the #1 Scoring and Total Offense of North Central vs the #1 Scoring and Total Defense of Wheaton. I'll go out on a limb and say this has to be a first ever in the history of CCIW matchups. Can anyone think of another example?

That's gonna be a great matchup.

This game should be a Jim Dandy.

The WIAC has a great slate of games w
UWEC at UWW,
UWL at UWP
UWO at UWS.
A fun weekend to look forward to.

Tuesday Morning Review:

Boy was I wrong on the UWEC game. I was at the game and 72 hours later I am still trying to figure out how they won the football game. I thought they would go with Johnson at QB, but they went with #14. Their QB play will hold them back all year long. I was very impressed with the defense. The DL got pressure on the QB all day long. I still think that UWEC will struggle in the league.

I can not wait for WIAC play finally. I am busy tomorrow so I might give the rundown right now.

UWEC vs UWW- I think UWW will roll here. I just do not see how UWEC will be able to move the ball. They have to have QB play at some point. UWW is much to talented. I think this goes 38-7.

UWRF vs Stevens Point- I think UWRF gets this one. Point misses Herro more than anyone thought they would. I have heard he is out for the year. If that is the case, I think point will struggle all year. Should be a great game in point but Falcon win 31-24.

UWO vs UW-Stout- This game has me torn. I have been high on Stout all year long. This is the strange team for me. Stout has to many weapons on offense with Hammer and McDonald. I watched Kobe 2 weeks ago and was super impressed with him. I might switch this play later in the week, but for now I am going Oshkosh wins 21-20.

GAME of THE WEEK:
UWL vs UWP- This will be the game that I will attend. How does Mike Schmidt handle Coach Emmy. Schmidt has owned him every since he left UWP. UWP has been the most impressive team so far to me this young season. My worry on the defensive side of the football. UWP looks to be back scoring points at will. UWL is a team that I can not figure out. I am curious who will be playing QB for UWL. I just think UWP has to many weapons and find a way to win this think 35-24.

WW

I'm not about to kick dirt on the Pointers. They split and played strong against nationally ranked D3 teams in NC play. The Dakota State game was a mess and Urmanski was bad, but he was perfect the week before against #21 Wabash. Losing Herro hurts but Urmanski has seen significant PT the last two seasons. He's fine as long as he's not running for his life back there. This one might be my sort-of-semi-annual trip to the Gerk. I need a fresh case of blue bullets anyway...

Agree with UWW by several bazillion, a difference of an extra point in UWO-Stout (although I'm leaning Stout), and the Platters by better than a tuddy.

My thoughts as well. 31-14 is my UWW/UWEC score. I think everything that could have gone wrong for UST went wrong...especially in the first half. UWEC did barely enough on offense to win and took advantage of some great field positioning. If UWW takes care of the ball, this game shouldn't be close. UST was able to run up almost 480 yards of offense but kept shooting themselves in the foot. In their last two games (against UST and St. Norbert) UWEC has given up nearly 850 yards of total offense.

I just don't see lightning striking twice in two weeks for the b'golds

So RF vs Point not part of the "great slate" Emma 17? It's only the TOP OF THE SLATE for me and other Falcon fans!!!

Sorry ff, it was wrong of me to not include it. I was focused on recent conference contenders. The truth is I've always had a soft spot for RF - way back to the 80's. A no-nonsense team w a deadly triple option offense. I even found it strangely difficult not to root for RF in the 2014 near upset of UWW.
Go falls.

I will never forget we had a not so impressive victory against St. Xavier in 2003. Coach Brez walks into the locker room where he expected the players to be celebrating and they weren't and he goes "What the HE** is wrong with you guys we just won a ball game.  Afterwards he and I were talking and he asked me why they weren't excited and I said we might just have a very mature team and they know that they didn't play well. His response was Bull Sh$t. You celebrate every win no matter what.
From that point on even when one side of the ball didn't play well I always remember that you celebrate a W no matter what. The season is to short to worry about f you didn't play well.

He probably partied in 2003 after Owen Schmidt trampled us and the Falcons rolled up 365 yards rushing.  The good guys did win however.

No offense, Emma 17. I thought you probably had just overlooked the Falcons but even if you had not I understand. We've been out of contention for a long time. I would like that to change but the schedule has us playing all the teams we have the best chance against away from home this season.
