So RF vs Point not part of the "great slate" Emma 17? It's only the TOP OF THE SLATE for me and other Falcon fans!!!

Sorry ff, it was wrong of me to not include it. I was focused on recent conference contenders. The truth is I've always had a soft spot for RF - way back to the 80's. A no-nonsense team w a deadly triple option offense. I even found it strangely difficult not to root for RF in the 2014 near upset of UWW.
Go falls.

This. It's part of the unique strand of your DNA that separates you from the rest of us.

That game took a few years off my life. I remember Wabash fans using that game as their foundation on why they would beat us in the playoffs. Lost track on how many times I read Wabash fans convincing themselves they could actually beat UWW by posting "Well if they could barely beat UWRF, how are they going to beat us?" Obviously that didn't end well for them. I think BashDad led that charge, remember him? I think emma fought with him all week leading up till that game. BD was a piece of work.

Remember his legendary manifesto on how Wabash would beat UWW?

Thanks for sharing 02. I give BashDad credit, he put some serious thought into that post. Just like when I read it in 2014, I found myself shaking my head yes and getting all pumped up. I do remember I wrongly predicted the number of sacks Wabash would have (their defensive end, one w several brothers, bernie or something). I blame my concern on the manifesto. Out of curiosity I just checked the box score of that game, yeah...   no.

From what I remember, Bashdad was one of the best QB's in the history of Wabash. No doubt his competitive nature fueled his manifesto. If my fading memory serves me, he is a noteworthy filmmaker or some such thing these days.

A couple of news sources Saturday Tradition,  247Sports and Stadium TV have mentioned  Lance Leipold 's name as a candidate for the Rutgers job. Don't know how serious it is and I have not been able attach links to the stories. (I'm on the cover of Computers for Dummies)

DON'T DO IT LANCE!! Rutgers has some of the most awful facilities in all of the FCS, not even just Power 5. Word was Ash took the job without seeing the state of things (pretty typical, since you usually have 24 hours to decide). But was shocked when he arrived.

NJ is stocked with talent. But MD, OSU, PSU, and Michigan make a living recruiting that state. Zero HS kids grow up wanting to play at Rutgers.

MD has their own issues with keeping the small population of quality in-state talent. I was actually talking to a co-worker of mine and indicated that MD should go recruit Wisconsin in hopes of getting decent lineman that can get you 1 yard in 4 tries.

IL as well. They have loads of talent out of high school, especially in basketball, but none ever stay in state. hence U of I being awful in football and basketball for awhile now. Northwestern has been ok at best of late. DePaul has been cellar dwellers in men's basketball pretty much since the Ray Meyer era. Just pitiful collegiate athletic D1 state.

Yeah, that job is death. Couldn't blame LL for cashing a few giant checks in the twilight of his career tho.

The BIG 10 should be ashamed for letting Rutgers in the conference. Even Maryland coming in was essentially a mistake. These are not midwest schools in any fashion. They would struggle in the MAC in most sports as well. A decent school academically, but they are a disgrace for the conference much like Northwestern was for many decades. However, if Lance gets the job I would have nothing but support for him and his guys, and would enjoy getting to see him on TV more than once a year when a random Buffalo game gets on local TV.

How many D3 coaches go big time, have some success, and get an even better job? It's cool when you actually know the guy and some of his staff.

I agree with you that the Big Ten should have never offered the invitation to Rutgers and Maryland to join the conference.  I am not a fan of these "cross country" mega conferences.  I also agree with you that it would be a big risk for LL to take the Rutgers job.  However, how do you know that he wouldn't have success there?  People said that for years about Northwestern in the Big Ten, so much that some wanted to have them kicked out of the conference.  However, while they will never be a big power, since the era of Barnett and now alum Fitzgerald, they are very competitive (although this year, struggling, which will happen to any team at some point in their history i.e. Michigan,, Michigan State, etc.) ::))

Another example is Eastern Michigan (and Mr. Ypsi can relate that to you).  For years, people said that was the "graveyard of coaches" (in contrast to Miami, OH's "cradle of coaches), yet a guy like the late Jim Harkema and currently Creighton were able to take them to that next level (at least above what they were ;) in being competitive.  I agree that if LL is offered and accepts the Rutgers job, that will be an extremely tough challenge, again, a big risk for him, however, at the same time, who could blame him for taking an offer of big money for him and his family as you have said?  Personally, I would like to see him continue making Buffalo a solid program-people said that could never be done at that school, yet he has done a great job there so far.  Also, FWIW department, I am (and have always been) of the opinion that the MAC schools should be FCS, not FBS.  Anyway, enjoyed your perspectives/opinions on this Rutgers thing and we'll wait and see what happens after the end of the season.

It sure is an honor for Lance to be considered for the position.

Having closely watched UB football since LL's arrival, what amazes me most is his persistence in sticking to his plan in the face of challenges he really didn't have at UWW. UB got crushed this last offseason with departures in the transfer portal/NFL dream. These kids that left were recruited by LL and staff (a victory), and they were coached up to where they were extremely successful at UB (a victory), and then they leave at a time when the program was just blossoming into something very special. I don't necessarily blame the kids as it's understandable they want to experience playing in front of big crowds in rowdy stadiums- but that risk of losing players you work so hard to recruit and coach up must hang heavy on a staff.
I guess Rutgers won't have much more stickiness than UB has in terms of keeping players you recruit and coach up- but at least the players are experiencing the Big 10 stadiums.
