Trewyn will travel (to London!) and dress for potential first regular season action Sunday. UWW now breaks tie with Beloit College (!) for most active Wisconsin-colleged D3 alums in the NFL

Hey WW, you wouldn't by chance be announcing on UWWTV's Warhawk football broadcast? I ask this because one of the announcers said nearly the identical comment on air today. If you are, why does the broadcast have close caption taking up 1/3 of the screen & no way for the viewer to remove it.

WW dominated both lines of scrimmage which led to a huge advantage in total offense the only statistic they didn't dominate was the scoreboard as they won 21-14 for their  15th straight win over Platteville. Congrats to the WW faithful.

BoBo

UWW does just enough to get by Platteville and retain that big miners pick axe trophy. They tried to give it away, but not on this day. That has to be the biggest trophy in sports.

Glad that was only you. I thought it might be my enemies from the HOA Yard Maintenance Committee.

BTW, are you watching the Gators and LSU? UF doing a great job with the 2 QB platoon. Even Herbie said it reminds him of Leake and Tebow.  :o

UWO game notes:
Nice solid win. Played well on all levels. Nice to see RB Mitch Gerhartz back in the fold for the first this year. Got his feet wet again and gave a little spark to the running game.
Defense was solid. Just rock solid. Created turnovers and kept that "unique" UWSP offense in front of them.  I liked the hurry up spread offense they ran. But the gimmick plays they ran were dumb and frankly unnecessary. They have a nice little RB that had a good day. Not sure why they didnt go to him more. UWSP QB didnt have a good day. Not very poised in pocket and his in game awareness wasn't very good. Think I read in previous posts that he might be the backup? Herro or someone?
I love this group of WRs. They're 5 talented deep. Senior, junior and 3 very talented freshmen. Remember this name. Tony Steger. #17. He doesn't play a lot. But when this freshman gets the ball, its exciting. I know it's not in UWO's DNA, but I wish they would throw it more.
The most pleasant surprise of the day was actually the UWO
o-line play. Not saying it was great. But it was better then what I saw in the beginning of the season. No penalties. Not great, but better run blocking. And actually outstanding pass blocking. Berghammer had time to go to 2nd and 3rd reads.
Speaking of Berghammer. This kid  has got "it." He's got that moxy a team wants. Poised with good awareness under center. Today I saw him run up and down the sidelines firing teammate up.. He got into a skirmish with a UWSP player while sticking up for one his players. I remember watching Brett Kasper as a freshman and this Kobe kid is more football advanced than Brett was as a freshman. I know that might be saying a lot but it's true. This kid is going is to create issues for defenses these four years.
And holy jeez is this team young. At one point I counted 6 freshmen on offense and 5 on defense.

I'm not sure what my takeaway is in this one, other than both of these teams are pretty flawed. Point moved the ball, but managed to shoot itself in the foot frequently. UWO moved it just enough. Wind was a factor for sure

Saturday was a great day to hang out at the Perk. Homecoming brought some old roommates back, the weather cooperated and the tailgating was everywhere.

I admit it's a slow process for me to assimilate to the new UWW offensive style. Over time, there's a chance I'll just settle in and watch the game without thinking "how will this style hold up against Mt, UMHB, St. John, UWO and the likes?"

QB Oles was the leading rusher, 14 carries for 114 yards. Passing he was 8-18. I wonder how many of those carries were designed runs/read options and how many were tucking and running.

I thought the defense played pretty well. As Bobo said, UWP was quite benevolent. I was surprised at the number of dropped passes. There were some critical 3rd and 4th down plays they could have converted just by catching the ball.

There was an interesting decision made by UWP with 4 minutes left in game. Down 21-14, they were 4th and 8 at their 36 and went for it and failed (dropped pass I believe). Punting likely would have flipped the field, but, it didn't really matter as they stuffed UWW on four plays, stopping a 4th and 2. UWP got the ball back with 2:45, but more dropped passes and good defense held.

Me thinks the new offensive style sucks. I think it goes back to my premise that UWW now lacks the elite talent that LL had at his disposal. I always felt that if the other conference teams were to be competitive & close the talent gap, they would have show remarkable improvement. Yet what seems to have happened is UWW's talent level across the board has slip back to the rest of the field ever since Bullis took over as HC. It's been slowly eroding year after year and (unfortunately) shows no signs of bouncing back to those once, glory-filled days. We'll still be a quarter or semi-final team, but that's where we will hit the wall.

I have to think that most of the Oles runs were designed. With Peete having a difficult time getting anything going again and UWW not really using the tight end anymore in short/medium length middle of the field routes, that area was left wide open by the Platteville D. Oles took advantage of it & picked up a few yards.

@WW

I'm not sure why you contradict EVERY thing I say, but this thread isnt just for Whitewater fans. Guessing WW stands for Whitewater?
I have pretty good knowledge of the game of football. Do you actually go to the UWO games? Or you just reporting what you're reading?
Both teams aren't very flawed. Both teams have some issues. BUT WHO DOESNT?!?! The juggernaut that is UWW? From what I read, their offense is struggling to find a groove.
Guessing you are (or trying to be) the alpha dog on this thread.
I mean, you can agree or disagree with me. But tell me why.

The alpha dog thing brings me back a few years. My folks had a male Afghan Hound for some reason (very fast but seriously lacked ball skills) and then added a male Great Pyrenees to the mix (big and pretty athletic like William Refrigerator Perry). Once the Fridge grew up, those two dogs had the most ferocious battles for the Alpha Dog belt. Garden hoses and broom sticks couldn't keep em apart.

Anyway, you guys are both interesting to read, very different approaches.

So, with talent that has been eroding year after year and an offensive style that sucks, how did UW-W manage to score  more points per game last year than every year since 2009 (which includes four National Championship teams)?

Or could it be that you are just impatient and grumpy?
