Throw the ball to Julio, the "glorified tackle". Kid's an athlete. He'll catch it.

Bleed
As I said to Bobo, there would be debate w some of his examples. I agree w you that LL didn't have a big play tight end/guy that opened the field for others. The LL teams used their tight ends as you said, but w great effect. See 2013 game at UMHB.
On the subject of tight ends, UWW had two big, string outstanding tight ends for 2015 and 2016- and for whatever reason, couldn't figure out how to weaponize them.

DC can defend himself on the cloud of dust comment, but you're pulling one game against a perennially weak defensive team to support your case. Imo three yards and a cloud of dust refers to a run ratio much higher than a pass ratio.

It is interesting how we all view things differently, but for most, we are in agreement the UWW offense is noticeably different than it was under the previous staff. I don't think we saw such differences when UWW moved through three offensive coordinators under LL- and all three OC's won championships their  first year on staff- with only one QB repeating.
Emma,I was referring to the run/pass ratio which is just like when Brez was the coach. However nothing was worse then the stout game in 2002 when we ran Fullback wedge 18 times in a row. Yes I said that right 18 times in a row. We put football back fifty years that game. However all that mattered was that we won. Of course the next week we went to Oshkosh and Blew the game, and ended the season 5-5.

Is anybody else feeling upset Saturday is coming?
UWSP over UWW
St Thomas over St John?

But I'm expecting an outcome where you compliment the Pointers on their scrappiness and then complain that Peete et al didn't break enough runs over 20 yards, they didn't run enough slants, etc. Duddub by 17.

One of my favorite posts of the year so far!!

Awesome job Alpha Dog!

Traveling today so couldn't see game in detail. But UWSP sure seemed scrappy in the plays I saw.
Wish Peete would get bigger plays.
I did see a slant route- nice.
Great result for UWW.

Do you have something in mind when you say LL was more wide open in comparison to KB?

Let me take a shot at this. For one thing, LL had tight ends who could run a pass route and occupied a defender or two. That opened things for the WR's.  Now days they pose no threat to catch the ball, they are glorified tackles wearing a TE number.  The WR's as a result get very little separation from coverage.

My friend, BoBo:
Name one tight end that opened things up for the wide receivers under LL. If anything, his tight ends snuck out there and made catches while the defensive backs were chasing around our stud receivers.  You think a tight end cleared the way for Jake Kumerow and Aaron Rusch?  And I'm guessing you are still watching games online rather than attending them in person. The idea that our receivers don't create separation is ludicrous.  It's interesting you feel like you can even form such an opinion given you complain about the game being covered up by closed caption. It's hard enough to see the full route of a receiver online when you have the full picture. I'm not sure how you are able to with the closed caption blocking most of the screen. Our play calling has rightly been influenced by poor weather conditions the last couple of weeks. And it probably will again tomorrow. The weather has done more to slow down the UW-W passing attack than any secondary.

Dechampishere:

3 Yards and a cloud of dust?  We just gained 376 yards rushing against the 19th ranked team in the nation.  A team that just held La Crosse to 2.8 yards per carry in 35 carries.

To all:
There are a lot of opinions mixed with downright fiction being posted right now. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, no matter how stupid it makes you look.  But when fiction is thrown in or opinions are stated as if they are facts, then you are asking to be called out. I know you'd rather have me do it than Alpha Dog!  :)

Bleed, my pal - my point about the tight ends was we used to have a TE who presented a threat to catch a pass & score, so the defense had to account for them in various facets of the game other than run blocking. A tight end with that talent helped to open up the field so WR's like Kumerow, Rusch, Huber, Brandes, Gifford, Wells, Mrkvicka, Menzel, Robinson, Morris, Worth, Howard J, Howard Z, Finco had plenty of operating space. I won't name you one TE, not even two or three; how about 4 who were an integral part of the passing attack during the LL era (you can agree or disagree, whichever makes you happy):

2007-2008 Nick Slupski 48 catches/455 yards 7 TD
2009-2010 John Novak 37 catches/358 3 TD
2011 Jason Ford 29-257 2 TD
2013-2014 Derric Junakin 34-259 6 TD

I only listed the TE leader for each season but there was overlap with some of these guys and others who contributed.

The problem now is I can't even name a TE because they are pretty much a ghost in the whole scheme of things. Only 1 TE in this new era has even made a dent in contributions to the pass offense. That of course was Tony Gumina. And as your other best friend has made known many times, he was terribly misused or not used at all. His full talent was never on display, unfortunately. Someone suggested getting the ball to Perez, "he'll catch it" or "kid's an athlete." With only 2 catches for 15 yards in a season and a half, the stats reveal that is nothing more than a myth - at least the pass catching part of it. I hear though that he can "put" it. Not a football, a shot as in the shot put on the track & field team. With that technique, someone might mistake him for the Arkansas punter - but that's a whole different conversation. So he may be a pretty decent athlete, but he's not even close as a TE compared to those other guys I named. Sorry Julio!

And also, I didn't intend for you to believe the WR's couldn't do their job without the TE, but a TE threat certainly made it easier because the Novaks and Slupski's could catch and find the end zone once in a while so the field was more open for that impressive list of names above to do their thing. I thought you would've known that. But, maybe you were just pretending.

No I was responding to what you actually typed, not your subsequent explanation.  Everyone you listed were excellent players. However, they were not players who were double teamed, which forced defenses to then single team players like Jake Kumerow. I thought that's what you meant. If that's not what you meant, I'm not sure what you did mean. If you had just typed,"Gee I wish we could utilize our tight ends a little more", I wouldn't have even responded. I think my description of tight end use under LL was more accurate than yours. But it's all good. I'm un-annoy-able on a day we win 38-0.  ;)

Great result for UWW.

Highlights for me:

We made a FG!! Really, I'm not making that up. Saw it with my own eyes. It was hard to see since the SPTV cameraman had the camera aperture nearly closed the entire game. It was the darkest looking outdoor day game I have ever (not) seen. Couldn't tell if Point was wearing all black or all purple. And the numbers...they were a mystery. Had a hard time picking up the flight of the ball as well.

On the last drive Wisnewski actually went in motion on 1 play. Yeah - the motion is back at least for one play. Maybe coach will do more of it next week. A good reason to tune in. On another play I think in the 1st half, all three WR's lined up on the left of the formation and all three moved before the play started to the opposite side in unison. How could all three have lined up in the wrong position on the same damn play. Amazing. It wasn't real motion, but was cool nevertheless.

No close caption on SPTV. I was told by UWWTV that they have close caption because it's a state law. So, UWSP broke the law today much like Titan TV did last week. Yeah, the guy from UWWTV told me in an email that state law mandates state operated TV broadcasts must have close captions and since their equipment can't support a button to turn on and off, they just put it on. Sweet!

Most all snaps from center were on target. No rollers or 3 bounces to the QB. The last XP had a high snap, but the holder did a good job getting it placed.

Oles threw a swing pass to Ponick too. It was badly overthrown but just the fact that they tried to hit a RB with a pass put a smile on my face.

Someone must be listening to my pet peeves ... it was a great day!

You don't know the cache you have?  The coaches actually absorb every word you and Emma type, process it, and discuss it.  And when they are done laughing, they go about the business of running their highly ranked football program.

Here's what happens when two porous d's (RF and Lax) get together:  (WIAC games only) Highest no. of pts. scored by two teams, 112; highest score by losing team, 49; greatest no. of yards gained by an individual, both total offense and passing (Lewandowski, Lax qb), 591; most td passes thrown, 9, by Lewandowski; second most completed passes, single game, 40 by Ben Beckman (RF qb); second most receptions single game by Alex Herink (RF WR), 17.

There may be other records, and these are subject to verification, but it was a spectacular display of offense by both teams. It kept me there until nearly the very end, hoping for a miracle.

Lewandowski also tied a D3 record with his 9 td's. If it's not apparent, my previous post relates to WIAC records.

Platteville got back to running the ball yesterday and came away with a 33-27 win. Thompson had a nice game averaging 6 yards per carry for 125 yards on the day. Stout on the other hand did it all threw the air gaining only 3 yards rushing. Stout's QB Borgerding threw it all over and came a onside kick away from having the ball to go in for the winning score. It's on to Carson Park and Eau Claire next week.
