Congrats to WW on their deserved win, altho it certainly was not one of their best performances (worst?). To have a well rounded offense, RF needs more than 84 yards rushing (10 longest), and a passing attack that has a deep threat. That we were able to do as well passing as we did says our short passing attack is good.

RF was missing 5 injured starters, in the lineup 3 games ago, altho WW probably had guys out too. Other discrepancies:  WW lists 26 seniors, RF shows 15. Both starting O (8 seniors, 3 juniors) and D for WW list predominantly seniors, but no freshmen. RF started 3 freshmen, though a slight majority are seniors. WW has 13 players 290 lbs or better, RF has 6.These numbers are subject to scrutiny, but don't: it will weaken my argument. Yes, I know, this is starting to sound like a whine, but indulge me, I'm an old man, and I've seen few wins over the years!

We need to recruit better, but that's been the case for years. Our best running back in the Walker era was a transfer from WW, a kid from Janesville. Don't remember his name.

BUT, WE COULD BEAT STOUT! I'm still a great Walker supporter.

Hey Fred, no worries - you've got a fine team there. In my opinion, I was more impressed w UWRF than I was with UWP. Your guys were making plays on offense throughout the entire game. 102 plays is a great credit to execution. Unfortunately for UWRF, you also saw what happens many times w UWW opponents- those long drives on offense end up providing more opportunities for UWW defenders to make plays, thus the critical turnovers.

Yeah, that Oshkosh game was as shocker. Very un-Cerroni like to get beat down like that. They could get nothing going on offense, and it's not like UWL is a great defensive team either.

Fair enough emma and bw. I can respect each of your conclusions. Agreed that when it was 42-13 the dagger was firmly planted. I wish our JV freshman and sophomores were more prepared and responded more positively when their names were called upon. A lesson was learned for the younger 'Hawks.

But as far as WW saying the big WR from RF playing next level football wouldn't be shocking, that's down-right delusional thinking. And the Vikings bringing him in for a rookie camp try-out because he is somewhat a local kid doesn't count as playing next level football.

I was leaving that one alone.   ;D
FWIW when you consider maybe a half dozen DIII guys manage to get into an NFL camp the prospect of any of them playing at that level are shocking to me.  His football talent aside he was pretty tough for us on the floor in Williams Center.  But he was actually fun to watch.  Whatever happens after graduation I hope it goes well for him.

Not sure what got y'all so triggered bout this but I'll play along till it heads down the rabbit hole. My take is this: yesterday, I watched 6-7 Demetrious Harris catch a touchdown pass vs the New England Patriots. Harris's collegiate experience is on the UWM basketball team. He didn't play college football at all, except for the UWM club team. So him playing next-level football, in the NFL, catching touchdowns? That's shocking. Last week I watched Derek Carrier catch passes vs the Packers. Carrier played his college ball at Beloit, which is consistently at the bottom of what the Hansen Ratings consistently rank as one of the worst conferences in D3. The program is on life support. So him playing next-level football, in the NFL? That's shocking. And last night I saw a WIAC receiver catching footballs on Sunday Night football. Looked pretty good.

Herink is not the best D3 receiver in the WIAC or the state. I'd put the LaCrosse kid ahead of him. Statewide, I'd put the St Norbert kid ahead of him too. Neither of those have an NFL future. Herink, with a commodity the next-level covets, might. As my original post states, it's good to be 6-8* (*after further review, roster lists him at 6-7. A previous basketball roster had him at 6-8). Especially at the next-level. And it's good to be that size and athletic, which he is. He clearly catches footballs. 15 Saturday. Maybe that was against a bad defense? Hmmmm, I think that defense was pretty good. You dub-dubbers can debate that amongst yourselves. He could probably use another 10 lbs in the weight room, but he put on 20 after basketball, so I have little doubt he could further build a next-level frame. He's not gonna run 4.3. Doesn't have to. Did I mention he's 6-7? He's 6-7. And he can catch footballs. Can he block? I don't know. That's why in previous posts I questioned where you'd line him up.

The other thing is—and this may or may not be in his favor—this is his 2nd year of college football. He basically took four years off since high school. He's raw. Could a practice squad be the perfect incubator for a kid like that?

So. We've established that 6-7, athletic receivers can find a path to the next-level — and succeeding at it — even without the benefit of college football. We've established that they can do so from schools that are among the lowest rung of competitive college football in the country. And we've established that they can do so from the WIAC, which in light of the previous two entries, maybe isn't so "shocking" after all. Combine that with the size component that so many D3ers lack when looking to a future at the next level, and Herink at the very least has fewer obstacles to overcome than the three I reference above.

Perhaps it's the semantics that trouble you, the "wouldn't shock" part. I know internet arguments are no fun if you have to consider context and whole statements rather than cherry-pick the parts you want to argue. I'll stand by my whole statement, which as a reminder (with emphasis added), was "He's a long shot, as all WIACers are, but wouldnt shock to see him playing next-level football."

There's no "he's gonna" there. I frankly don't think "he's gonna". Wouldn't shock, though. Yeah, I'm good with that.

I tune in on Saturday to watch the Titans, and the Bears offense showed up in Lacrosse, WI. Then the Bears offense showed up in Chicago on Sunday.

Titan 78,
The Bears used to train in Platteville  can you arrange to have their offense go to Platteville next Saturday?

Not that it matters but speaking for myself I'm not "all so triggered bout this."   I'm actually relatively indifferent.  As I've already stated whatever happens I hope things go well for him.

I'm assuming ww's "y'all" was intended only for Bobo.

UWL at UWW- my #2 vs #1, and I'll be out of town, drats.

Interesting battle of QB's from neighboring home towns. Oles from Palatine and Lewandowski from Lake Zurich, IL. Both were studs at the high school level.
You cheesey heads might appreciate- Jack Sanborn, sophomore LB for the Badgers, was Lewandowski's high school teammate.

They'll come around. Their loss to Ohio State wasn't shocking. But losing to Illinois? That's a game changer. A Wisconsin team losing to an Illinois team in football?  That just shouldn't happen. At any level or at any time.  It will take time to recover from that.

Speaking of Illinois, Bears fans must have had a fun day yesterday. Watching Trubisky in the afternoon and Rodgers in the evening.  But GM Ryan Pace is on top of it. According to Pace, who traded up to draft Trubisky rather than wait and pick Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes. Pace says Trubisky "has got to play better."  Ya think?

In 2017, Pace traded the third pick, 67th pick, 111th pick, and a third round pick in 2018 to move up one pick. Who did they trade that goldmine to? The 49ers. The 49ers 2019 record? 7-0.   Da' Bears!

The irony....I saw Trubisky play one game in person in 2016 for North Carolina, and was incredibly impressed.  It was early in the season and he wasn't on anybody's draft radar, let alone being a first round pick.  Hell, I'd never even heard of him.  In the game I saw, he reminded me of Rodgers....super accurate, mobile, in complete control, very lethal when out of the pocket, etc.  I talked him up to friends as someone to keep an eye on.  This was mid-September 2016.

Who'd he play against in that game?  Yep, Illinois.  Today, Trubisky is a shell of himself and who I saw 3 years ago.  I hope things turn around for him!

This Illinois fan was very happy to see the Illini upset Wisconsin a couple weeks ago.   ;D

Thank god for Warhawk football because Chicago sports has nothing going for them of late. I can't tell with any certainty where their next playoff team will come from.

You're sadly mistaking if u think I watched the Packers Sunday night.

As far as Trubisky, I feel like the Bears need to let Mitch be Mitch. To be honest, in some of the highlights I saw before the 2017 draft, he reminded me a bit of a mobile Favre. I thought he had some scrambler and some gunslinger in him. Some guys are just better when they don't have to think. Are they trying to make a pocket passer out of a gunslinger?  If they are, they need to knock that off because it ain't workin. At this point, what do they have to lose? Let Mitch be Mitch.

Sorry you missed the game Sunday night. You missed what might have been the most amazing TD pass of 2019. Plus Jake made a couple of big catches on the Pack's opening drive!

It's not all on Mitch. Nagy's play calling is god awful.
