Is that directed towards me, Pat? Not sure what that means.
Just thought it was a good story to share knowing that 90% of the people on this thread went to, or fans of UWW.

I loved the story, thanks for sharing. There are several things I identified with (walking the streets of Vegas, losing money but not too much, hanging w an older guy you just met, appreciation for D3 sports, the sports book environment), and best of all- it was a UWW championship story.

If the story is too long for others, here's an idea, move on to something else, no comment needed.

Sure. Or if a team doesn't throw enough slants for you, that could be a good thing for you to consider as well. ;)

Bwahahahaha. that made me laugh  ;D

Loved the story too. Not a Vegas guy per se (only been once), but totally get the random d3 connections that are fun. My most recent, met Retired Old Rat at the Bethel v. SJU game at halftime. My bro was sitting with me and another person asked where I was going. His response "He's heading out for a date with some old guy he met online." lol, yup, pretty much  ;D

Pat with the zinger. Love it.

Apparently I didn't do a very good job of introducing you to my wife. She didn't realize until after the game when I was talking about some of your insights that I actually "knew" you from the online world. She just thought you were some rando I was chatting with, which, tbf is mostly true.

Lol, some rando who insisted on shaking her hand and then saying goodbye as I left the game  :D ;) Too funny

Good one. I guess I should ask UWW to let me know their game plan in advance, then I won't have to waste my precious time sitting through a game that doesn't get played the way I want it to.

My favorite Pat Coleman post ever! Funny, somewhat out of nowhere, and absolutely appropriate! Perfect execution!

I'm just not getting the humor w this one.
This WIAC board has been accused on multiple occasions of chasing posters off.
A guy posts a story he thinks is worth sharing and a couple of you decide this is your opportunity to be cool at the expense of others.

And as usual, Bleed gets all giddy over that sort of thing.

And it actually worked out earlier this year that we were out there the same time to watch my UWO bball team win the championship. Game wasn't on TV. But I actually got the MGM Grand to stream it and project it on one of their big screens. They were happy to do it considering we had a big group and had a bunch of money on the game. We covered the spread, so all was good. Team should be good again this year. Only lost 2 starters. Preseason ranking #2. Should walk through WIAC. With only Platteville giving  some competition I'm guessing.
So anywho. To get off the bball topic I have a question for y'all. What do you guys think of the moving of the championship game from Virginia to (Texas?) (then Ohio? ) believe? I know there was an article written on this site a while back about the whole thing. But, should they have moved it? Is it great they are moving it around? Was it a money grab? Too see better football in a warmer environment?
And did any of you UWW fans get a chance to make it out to Virginia? Fun? Any great stories? I know a few years back I looked into it when UWO made the title game but it was out of my price range for spending 1 night there watching 3 hrs of football. Seemed like a lot layovers and traveling in a car.. And I think oshkosh ran some buses out there, but I wasn't about to sit on a bus for what seemed like forever.

I'm going to share a story with you guys that is pretty cool to me and that I think about once a year. And that time is now.
Every year me and some buddies go out to Vegas for a "guys hangout weekend.". We're currently pricing things out for the trip. But those weekends out there always bring back a memory of me and an older gentleman sharing a moment.
So what happens 1 of the days we're out there is that we start a journey on the very south end of the strip. We get a drink at our 1st casino, get out $10-$20 and sit down on a slot. After the drink is gone, or we all lost, we move onto the next door casino. And repeat this  all the way down the strip. When we get to the end of the strip, we cross the street and work our way back up. Those of you that have been there can imagine how many stops we make and just how expensive our little trip ends up being.
So one year on our trek, one of our stops was Paris Hotel & Casino. I lost my $20 within minutes. Got up to go to the bathroom and on my way back I walk through the sportsbook. What I noticed as i was walking through was that one of the smaller TVs had the D3 basketball championship game on it. Totally forgot that UWW was in it. Or maybe thought the game was later that night. Either way, I made my way closer to the TV to watch a few minutes of it before joining my friends. I noticed an older gentleman sitting  at a table watching it. So I sat down and said hi. He asked if I had money on the game. I told him no. I told him I was from Wisconsin, live in oshkosh and was just a fan  of D3 sports. He smiled, said he was from Wisconsin and went to school at UWW. 70's I think? He played football there and had some sort of relation on that basketball team. Kid didnt play. Was buried on bench I believe. So some short time later, my friends found me and asked me if I was ready. I told them to go ahead and that I would catch up with them later. So me and this older gentleman ended up watching the whole game together. Drinks were flying. High fives were flying. Curse words were flying out of our mouths. People around us confused on why 2 people were randomly watching a D3 bball game. It was classic.
Best part was I never caught up with my friends that night. Guy's wife came down from their room to get him for dinner. She looks at him, looks at me, smiles and says "what did you do to him?!?!." I ended up having dinner with the both of them. Then the 3 of us played blackjack till the wee morning hours. We had breakfast. He told me I made his night and that it was great to spend a special moment with me. We parted ways. This, coming from a 70 something? guy was pretty cool and I'll never forget it.
If  you ask me what his name was, I dont remember. And what was significant about that year, was that  it was the year that UWW did the championship sweep. That I do remember.
Now I know it's not a great story. But what are the odds of 2 random people meeting in Vegas from the same state, linking up to watch some D3 bball game that I guarantee no one else in the city is watching? And then getting s%@tfaced together after the win? Just classic.

That ... was the most wonderful thing I have read in a long time.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Salem was an awesome host and and an awesome time.  It felt like they fully embraced the game and helped make the entire week special for the teams and the fans.  There was a bar that embraced UW-W fans to the point of putting up our memorabilia year round. They were awesome and Salem was awesome.

For the record, I loved your story. It was great. Emma was right. I get giddy when people make fun of him. But no reflection on you at all. Love your posts!

Oh no worries.
I actually have many good stories like that. I've had the pleasure to travel quit a bit through my past job and for pleasure with friends. Try to tie a sports related event into my travels. It's no surprise that Salem embraced you guys. I mean for god sakes, team had a good run. So they saw you almost every year. One thing that I noticed in my travels, is that smaller cities (even some bigger cities) embrace the Wisconsin sports fan. Maybe it has something to do with the midwest kindness? The passion for their teams? Or maybe it's the money we spend in the bars.
The year Marquette made it to the Final Four with Dwayne Wade we were in Knoxville bowling in the National Tournament. We actually stayed and went out on the U. Of Tennessee campus. They loved us. During the game we actually got the whole campus bar to chant "WE ARE.....MARQUETTE." Tennessee students cheering for Marquette. It was great. Maybe they loved us cuz we spent 10 hrs at the bar feeding them money. At 1:00 A.M. they ACTUALLY told us we drank them out of whiskey. Probably far fetched. Most likely got cut off.
So yes. I can see why Salem embraces you guys. City probably disappointed when UWW doesn't make it.
