UWO Titan 78:

Congratulations on the big win yesterday.  But one quick question...with such the stakes being that high for such a game, why such a low attendance (only 1675) to that kind of game at your home stadium and, especially with your big rival UWW?  What's with that?  I hope that there will be a much bigger attendance for UWO home playoff games.  Anyway, good luck in the playoffs.  BTW, nice stadium you have (Titan/Keller)-I stopped by to see it on a trip out west this summer.

This has been a problem forever. Frankly, the team deserves better. I expected a much bigger crowd, because UWW usually brings 3,000+ to us. The beiggest problem is that the stadium is off campus. But I'm not going to give the student body a pass there either. They don't show up to basketball games either. And we have the defending national champions, so it isn't like the product isn't good. The student body and the community don't support the Titans. I'm jealous of the Whitewater faithful. The athletes support each other at Oshkosh, but we never get the crowds the product on the field/court should get. I know the administration wants to change it and has tried, but nothing seems to work. I'm not there, so I don't know how much hunting season is affecting it, but that is always an issue. If it isn't the Packers or Badgers, there is often apathy. Which is a shame, because WIAC athletics are so darn good.

I think the Titan draw is very fair. We are the WIAC representative, but we aren't the normal WIAC representative that comes in 10-0 and a favorite for the semis. The body of work of this Titan team has them at 8-0, with one very bad loss. I think this was a fair landing spot. I honestly think they match up with both teams they may play. They easily can go one and done, but nobody will convince me that Central and Wheaton are looking forward to a potential match-up with the Titans. The D will keep them in any game. I'm just happy this young team gets more reps. Every additional practice is a bonus for this team. Hail Titans!

Looking at the bracket, I wonder if the committee realized uww lost to uwo last night. I would be upset if I was a UWO fan.

No gimme games, but I think uww got a very favorable draw for a pool c team.

No offense,  but a 2 loss team is in no position to complain about their draw.  It's the WIAC's reputation that got them in the reasonable position they're in.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I can sympathize with and share your frustration.  At Hope, the attendance for football has been so disappointing in the last several years, and that even with our consecutive winning seasons at 8-2, 8-2 and 7-3 the past three years.  The Holland Community has always had a great relationship with Hope College (the opening home game of each football season is titled Community Day with activities, huge picnic lunch available to the community, etc.) and has supported Hope athletics tremendously. However, in the past decade plus, attendance at football games has fallen a lot (not so with basketball as Hope has led the nation in per game attendance for most of those years) and I am not sure why.  Back in my day and, again, even up until the past decade or so, big games with high stakes as well as Homecoming would bring in huge crowds.  Disappointingly, we didn't even get 3,000 for Community Day or Homecoming this year and but struggle to get 1,500-,1800 for games despite the winning records (had just over 2,000 for yesterday's game.  I don't understand it.  It will be interesting to see what occurs in our hosting this first round playoff game against Wartburg (and it won't be affected by a Thanksgiving break or something like that!)  Anyway, thanks for your take on your UWO situation.

Edit: for correct attendance at Community Day and Homecoming. :)

No doubt Central would have preferred a different draw. Wheaton probably doesn't care right now. Let's see how they feel when they are in the middle of the brawl. Go represent.

No you wouldn't. You'd still be really happy they pulled off the win last night.  But, they are a 2 loss team when you look at the whole body of work. Their games are challenging but not impossible.

In looking at the way this bracket played out, I have to think the UW-0 win cost Susquehanna a bid. With Selinsgrove only 275 miles from Alliance, I have to wonder if they would have found a way for them to be in position to be a second round game against Mount Union.  It's real possible that if UW-W had won last night, their second round game would have been against NCC.

I would think the Pool A team would trump a Pool C team as far as who would get a home game and a favorable placement in the bracket. Especially when the two teams were in the same conference with the pool A team - obviously - winning the head to head. Maybe I'm wrong but it appears the opposite happened. Maybe more weight is placed in the overall record than winning the head 2 head matchup for the autobid. If that's the case maybe it was a blessing uww lost....we got the favorable place in a bracket and receive a share of the wiac crown. Best of both worlds

Absolutely the opposite happened, and not at all unusual. The entire body of work goes into the seeding.

Gotcha. I guess I was putting too much stock on Pool A winners

Yeah. I think of pool A as the guys who came in the front door.  The pool C's are the guys who came in the back door.  Once you are all in the room, they start arranging things based on the entire season without regard to which door you walked through.

Can't complain. Road is gonna lead through UMHB anyway. See y'all at the Perk in December.

Hey, a quick shout out to Pat.  Nice to see your alma mater won their last game of the season yesterday.  They obviously had a tough season for sure, however, ending this one with the win has to be positive for heading into next year.  Despite their record, I see they had good attendance for their last home game against Norwich a couple weeks ago.

Can you elaborate on what you know about Aurora? What makes them a dangerous matchup for St John's?

Weather permitting, an extremely capable passing attack orchestrated by an extremely successful coach with NFL pedigree.
His House of Speed program was very popular attracting many good athletes and allowing him to form important relationships for future recruiting.
As high school head coach, he took his team to three state championship games, winning two.
This is his first year as head coach of Aurora, they have scored 45 or more points 7 times this season.
I acknowledge the conference they play in is nothing like the mid to top of the MIAC, but his team is doing what it should be doing against them.

I can't imagine Aurora has the overall level of talent that St. John's has, but this is a one-game situation, and if they can get their passing game going (probably quick hitting routes), they might be much more a threat than you'd think.

It's a long shot for them, just saying, this is potentially one of those David v Goliath games.

As a Central fan, I preferred the Hope projection for a lot of reasons, but mostly the easier draw. The coach stated it was a tough draw. Any team that beats WW is a tough team. Looking over your roster I would say you have some size on us. I don't know who your starters are, but you literally have a Tank in your offensive line! The most threatening name we have is Blade and I don't like the odds of a Blade against a Tank. ;) Though we do have a Den Harder on the team and as Central College football goes that isn't too shabby.

Hey, my friend, we got our teams in the playoffs. Now comes the good stuff. Let's hope for lots of injury-free wins as we work our way thru the bracket.
