And lest we downplay the very important Johnnie Magic which is definitely a real thing.

I see. it's real, but it just doesn't make for "intelligent or interesting discussion."

It's real. Except for when it goes dormant from time to time and St John's loses to Concordia-Moorhead

Johnnie Magic is like pornography—difficult to define, but you know it when you see it. Most Johnnies are intimately familiar with both...

Johnnie Magic might actually be a good porn star name!

Best not to google it, just in case. It almost certainly already exists.

UWW has been getting blasted as being a publicly funded university with less than quality education.   But straight from the St. John's website; their game preview has this quote, "No.7 UW-Whitewater, meanwhile, dominated No. 1/2 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) in a 26-7 road victory, out-gaining the Warhawks 358-140 and possessing the ball for over 42 minutes."

So the writers and editors of this sentence thought that UMHB was the Warhawks.....or didn't know that UMHB was the Crusaders?

I have no doubt that they know which team are Crusaders and which team are Warhawks.  It's an easy, innocent mistake to make when you've got both the look back and the look forward aspects of a weekly set of game notes in your head at the same time.
So says another private school supporter.  ;) ;D

Emojis or no, please don't paint me into that corner.  I couldn't care less how the school you support is funded and I don't think it has one iota of influence on the outcome of football games.
Wally

Please re-read my post.   How many discussions have you seen in your long tenure on these Boards poking fun at the public vs private education issue....hundreds maybe.   All, I am doing is the same thing and making fun of what was probably an editing error.   When people use emojis with smiles, they are in most instances injecting humor.  Also, nothing in my post has anything to do with the outcome of the game.  I am not sure why you took offense to it and continue to do so.   Maybe it is a long obsession with the color PURPLE;) ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

I absolutely believe Whitewater's Stagg experience, numerous deep playoff runs, and a coaching staff with guys who have playoff experience is going to have a significant impact on Saturday's game.

The exact same belief I had about St. John's entering the 2005 Whitewater game.

We'll see if I'm correct this week as well!

I guess it's settled then, coaching experience is irrelevant.

I didn't see the 2005 game, but I was at the 2008 game. Antwan Anderson came in for an injured Coppage and ran like his hair was on fire.

Interesting perspective on the deep throws. I'll agree with you partially and say: SJU has been ridiculously consistent in finding DB's that allow ridiculously easy long TD passes.

So, you're implying that Bethel, U$T, Aurora, Chapman, and Wheaton all have terrible defensive backs?
Actually, I believe he is saying UWW's CB might be better.

No he's saying the DB's for the teams SJU has faced are lacking and give up ridiculously easy TD's. It's right there, we see it.
You know, I am a guy that spends a good deal of time in Minnesota, we have a cabin on Leech Lake that I am at a various times in the Spring, Summer and Fall, my oldest daughter went to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and still lives and works in Minneapolis and my youngest just accepted an offer to play soccer at the University of Minnesota-Duluth....and over all those trips and contacts I have always been impressed and heartened by "Minnesota Nice".      I guess that does not apply to Johnnies fans......LOL    ;) ;D

I'm a Bethel fan  ;D 8-)

Well, the quote WD is responding to said Emma is "implying" those schools have "terrible defensive backs". I'm with WD. I don't think that is what he's implying. St. John's has been successful in taking the top off of defenses and scoring with quick, long strikes. I think Emma's position is that is not likely to happen Saturday.  That position may not be the same as yours, but it is a reasonable one. Personally, I hope Erdmann throws deep a bunch. The more often he throws deep, the more often he gets hit. The more often he gets hit, the better for UW-W.

Indeed Bleed.

Hazz, I'm a little surprised with you as I don't see you being the kind of guy that picks and chooses text to make a case.
Following are my exact words that started this discussion on DB's getting burned:
QuoteMaybe SJU players just end up making great plays on the ball, and that's ok, but I don't see them getting the ridiculously easy long TD's we've seen recently.

It was your fellow MIAC buddy that posted:
QuoteSo, you're implying that Bethel, U$T, Aurora, Chapman, and Wheaton all have terrible defensive backs?

Looking from another perspective, I think about the NCC at MT game. In the first two series NCC DB's gave up wide open bombs to MT. I wasn't thinking, boy, those NCC  DB's suck. Rather, I was thinking, for cry eye, NCC must have worked and stressed all week long "Don't get beat deep", and I'm sure the DB's felt they had it under control. Yet, they probably got mentally lax, fell for a double move, and then it's tail lights. The same with Aurora DB's vs SJU and Wheaton DB's vs SJU. I'm not saying in any way that they are bad DB's. I'm saying, as you all know, the game is more than just physical. Those guys ALL got beat because they made mental mistakes. It had very little to do with great offensive game planning- and it has almost everything to do with executing the plan you worked on all week long.

Like I said, SJU receivers may end up making some great plays, and that's to their credit. But imo, a receiver doing a "double move" that gets the DB to bite, allowing a receiver 10 yards past all coverage, isn't to the great credit of Erdmann or the SJU OC, it's to the discredit of an undisciplined DB that should have played that play better.

It was a combo of lazy reading ... and just wanting to needle you guys a little bit  ;)

Nonsense. I've seen you cheer for the Johnnies

I think there is a world of difference between the attitudes from 2005 and now. I'll admit, I was a little dismissive of UWW back then, since they really hadn't won anything. Over the years, I, and other Johnnie fans, have learned to respect UWW as a now perrenial threat to go all the way. The banter still has an edge, but there's also a poke in the ribs quality to the jabs. It's fun, but not all unserious. Personally, I'm getting a little sick if seing the Johnnies season end in Whitewater. Let's hope that part of the story changes. If it does, there will still be respect from this side.

I did meet another Warhawk grad as I was working out today, and just happened to be wearing a Johnnie T shirt. Nice fellow who will be in the other stands on Saturday.

Time to wrap up some thoughts.
-This final four is as unpredictable as I can remember.
-I think Erdmann is the best QB in D3, all due respect to Rutter and Zimbelman.
-Expecting lots of yards by Erdmann.
-Expecting UWW will limit long TD passes.
-UWW has the smartest LB on the field.
