Time to wrap up some thoughts.
-This final four is as unpredictable as I can remember.
-I think Erdmann is the best QB in D3, all due respect to Rutter and Zimbelman.
-Expecting lots of yards by Erdmann.
-Expecting UWW will limit long TD passes.
-UWW has the smartest LB on the field.

You should add:

- UWW has big linemen on both sides, particularly the offense who can push and push all day.

02 Warhawk

UWW will have a good chance if they're consistent with how they played last week. However, consistency has been a problem with the 2019 Warhawks. Putting together back-to-back complete games is something we haven't seen this year.

I'm not saying they can't do it, but it's how things have gone this year. Hopefully they flipped the switch And can carry over that momentum.

Just saw Logan Hansen's tweet about where things stood in his model just before the first Rd. Mount, UMHB, Wheaton, and NCC were the four highest rated teams by his system. That's not infallible obviously, but I think he's got a really good metric going there. Those four looked very, very good. Though I said to my brother I thought Mount and UMHB were vulnerable this year. Still, I think many would have assumed NCC was the least likely to still be standing at this point. No knock to them in the slightest.

So here we sit, with more "favorites" knocked out before the Semi's than any year in recent memory. And yet the four still standing are all really great teams in their own right. This has made for a really great tourney. I'd love to see the division get to the point where there are legitimately 8-10 teams capable of winning the Stagg in a given year. Here's to hoping this year isn't the anomaly.

From a fan whose team is nowhere to be seen.

Good luck to The Johnnies and good luck to The Warhawks. Both are great schools with enviable traditions.
Hope: both teams play their best, the weather is not a factor and the game is injury free.
May the better team win, move on and claim a national championship.
Damn, I love Dlll football. Go Everybody! 🏈  ::)  ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

I think the biggest difference is that the offensive line has come together. It's been coming for awhile, but they are peaking. I think that will be a constant from here on in. That has also helped the running backs and they, in turn, are running with great confidence. And Max is playing really well.  I know everyone believes UW-W will simply try to pound the rock all day tomorrow. Personally, I think people may be a bit surprised. We may be a bit more balanced than people expect. As much as some are questioning the UW-W secondary's ability to contain the Johnnie's passing game, teams have done damage through the air against the Johnnies as well. So far, no one has really stopped our running game to the point that we've needed it, but there is a lot of wide receiver talent at UW-W that would love nothing more than to be unleashed on the national stage. Two great teams tomorrow. Should be a lot of fun.

Agreed. It's been a great tourney.
Hoping for safe travels for all Johnnie fans.
Unfortunately we had plans to be out of town, otherwise I would have loved to share a cheap WI beer (I think this is the real difference between public and private schools) w Johnnie fans.

Yep! Blocking.

In other WIAC news, UWL has announced the hiring of DC Matt Janus as "interim" coach. It's a curious communication, not necessarily making clear that a search for a permanent coach is under way, or that Janus might be that permanent coach.

Will any WIAC assistant coaches make the jump to UW LaCrosse. Schmidt was UW Platteville's DC and  WW's Bulls was an assistant at  WW and former Platteville DC and current WW DC  Rob Erickson were both finalists to replace Leipold at WW. Knowing the WIAC and seeing how the successful programs are run plus knowing the recruiting base for the WIAC would be an advantage during the interview process.

02, UWW has been very consistent this season - consistently inconsistent!! UWW had only one complete game all year - that was last week. I know you and the other UWW guys disagree, but tomorrow will be the first big test and only opportunity, to date, to put together back-to-back complete games all season - really for the last couple years if you really think about it. Only time will tell if this group of Warhawks has it in them to come out and play decent UWW football and inflict their will on the opponent like we're so used to experiencing on any given Saturday. We do that, they should be okay all day long.

The more I look into this, Janus might be their guy. I remember UWL putting a year-long interim tag on their basketball coach before "officially" giving him the gig. He basically checks the same boxes Schmidt did before he got hired. And that release has him talking about the city and other stuff you wouldn't quote a guy about if he wasn't the coach. And I think the "interim" designation is another means of dodging the state posting requirement.

Very different from the recent UWSP and UWEC processes, which were truly national searches that resulted in hires basically nobody locally knew much about.

I myself am a big fan of great blocking.
But here's a question to anyone. Would you rather have:
Good blocking and a great/Gagliardi winning QB, or
Great blocking and a good QB?

I think there is a world of difference between the attitudes from 2005 and now. I'll admit, I was a little dismissive of UWW back then, since they really hadn't won anything. Over the years, I, and other Johnnie fans, have learned to respect UWW as a now perrenial threat to go all the way. The banter still has an edge, but there's also a poke in the ribs quality to the jabs. It's fun, but not all unserious. Personally, I'm getting a little sick if seing the Johnnies season end in Whitewater. Let's hope that part of the story changes. If it does, there will still be respect from this side.

I did meet another Warhawk grad as I was working out today, and just happened to be wearing a Johnnie T shirt. Nice fellow who will be in the other stands on Saturday.

I actually have a lot to say to you retagent after reading through this, but I will pass since you made it too easy.

But what I really want to ask is this -- I read through the st. johns game notes or whatever it is called and would like to know if the johnnies travel with any player on their roster not named Erdman? My Lord, his name was plastered all over that document, it must have been mentioned a gazillion times. I guess the rest of the team must realize who buys the lunch on that squad. Reading that thing leaves the impression that SJU is a one man team. Who's the back-up and does he have any experience other than 4th quarter mop-up duty? This is in case Mr. Erdman gets sick before tomorrow or (gulp) injured during the game.
