Well...it looks like all six on the D3 panel picked UWW to lose, again.

Amateurs.

Once again, St John's is being overrated.  I don't understand why.  I see this going UWW's way by two scores.

Curious why you think that?

I've no problem w them picking SJU, but Ryan's rationale is off. He claims UWRF is the only passing team w a "really solid passing attack" that UWW played. That's just wrong. St. Xavier was better than UWRF and UWL was very good too.
He also thinks UWW will be in trouble if they fall behind based on the notion UWW is basically a running team without passing weapons. That's just not correct either, as Bleed pointed out earlier.

Yeah, that's a little lazy. There are a few "really solid passing attacks" in the WIAC. I'd put Stout and Platteville in that category. Even Urmanski at Point was pushing 250 yds/game.

I'm more on board with the second assessment, though. Right now the evidence in Meylor's favor as a passer is 1) the St Xavier game, which I'll presume was highly risk averse by design since he wasn't QB1 at that point, and 2) .... because bleed says so. I didn't see the SXU game, so all I got is bleed, although the post route he hit Wis with last week sure looked like a guy who had done it before.

We'll see. I'm picking UWW, but mostly because of what I saw last week when they bulldozed UMHB. They'd have to be way behind, like three scores in the second half, to see them abandon what got them there, IMO.

Well, if you look at their season histories within the last 5 years, St Johns has been consistently highly ranked and yet had nothing to really show for it.  Sure enough, they would fall early in the playoffs.  I would argue that they had the easiest quadrant this year and with how UWW beat up UMHB, I just don't see them winning this game; not with the offensive line of the Warhawks owning the field at the moment.  We will see on the backside whether or not I am correct.

Gary has improved each season at the helm. Last season no one played UMHB closer! You're right that we'll find out today who the better team is!

Not that I think any of this matters today, but 2018 UMHB and 2019 UMHB are not the same animal.

I think WW will win because of Johnnie mistakes. That is how it usually goes for SJU at this stage of the year  at WW. That said, I have been to 7 SJU games and 3 UW STOUT games. If there is an inference that Stout's passing game is good....like SJU, No way. You are comparing sandlot to Pro. The SJU QB has the ability to put the ball - right there - where it needs to be. Beyond the QB, the young SJU receivers have developed into exceptional receivers. If SJU has the ball 25 or more minutes and doesn't make mental mistakes, it will be tough for WW. WW needs to control the ball and pressure the QB and probably still score 35 points.

I myself am a big fan of great blocking.
But here's a question to anyone. Would you rather have:
Good blocking and a great/Gagliardi winning QB, or
Great blocking and a good QB?

Linfield 2004 vs. UWW 2005? :)

I think the 2005 Linfield/UWW game is a great example of that.

Best QB in the country against a team that was great at blocking with a good QB.

(I would give my left arm to see a replay of that game. I was only able to catch the final few minutes of it on the radio)

Great example Pat.
I don't know that there is a right or wrong answer as it's probably preference. Although, the more I think about WW examples, the clearer the answer, 2007 vs Greg Micheli and Mt, UWW won- is another example.

That said, I also believe the passing game can be the great equalizer, even when you don't have the best blocking. But the passing game requires near flawless execution.

Emma is on to it.  It's not as simple as a certain recipe equals success.

The reference of UWW beating Mount in 07 can easily be flipped right around in 06 and 08 to show the exact opposite.   1993 was the best example of a great QB carrying a lesser team to a title.  Mount had no business being on the same field with all the D1 transfers Rowan had, except at QB.  Jim Ballard was THE difference.   And many of the UWW teams are great examples of great line play overcoming a deficiency at QB.

I think it's more about the opposite, negative way of looking at it.   If you don't have great line play, then you better have a great QB and receivers to counteract it.  And if you QB is average,  you better be great along the LOS or you're toast.

Either recipe and be successful.

I believe the following:
1.  Great line play travels, is immune to the weather and is more consistent.
2.  Great QB and passing game while more inconsistent can rise up and upset a clearly better team.

Who wins between the two?  Whichever plays better on the given day.  There isn't a guaranteed recipe.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

It's game day Warhawks. Take the predictions the D3 writers said about you
and pin it to your lockers. Best of luck today.

If they needed Quick Hits predictions to get motivated for a semifinal game, then it's probably too late.

I think Stout could have gave NCC a better game.
