I'm still stunned. Not so much that UWW lost, but the way they lost, They did not look like the team I saw last week, or during the season.
Just goes to show the flaw in the transitive theory. Wheaton beat NCC. SJU beat Wheaton. UWW beat SJU. NCC manhandles UWW. WHAT?

I posted this over on the CCIW board, but want to do it here also. I want to compliment Pat and Keith for a great job up in the booth calling the game. Although they always do a great job, I thought this year was one of their best. Also, compliments to Frank and Greg for their part as well.

I plan to attend the Stagg Bowl next year in Canton, but will also use earphones at the stadium for their broadcast (if that is allowed.). Anyway, thanks again to Pat and all the d3fb.com crew for another great job!

I've been a WARHAWKS dude for over 50 years and try as I might I can not remember a game in which we were dominated like we were for most of last night.  I absolutely did not see that coming.  There's always a chance you'll lose but not like that.

I just wondered if anything might have been different if we had been able to take advantage of some of the opportunities we had in the first half.

It's a sour feeling for sure as we all hoped for a better showing from the team- especially in light of the previous two games they played. I'm sorry it ended that way for the players.

BW- I saw two other games similar to last night's UWW struggle. 2015 at Mt. Union was a complete manhandling of UWW and part of the third quarter and fourth quarter last year at UMHB as well.

I'm curious if what I thought I saw last night was actually happening.
It seemed to me the NCC Oline had tighter splits, which to my eye limited the pass rush moves the UWW Dlinemen could use. I guess I can look at previous games, my memory tells me UWW D line guys were using a lot of spin moves w effect against SJU. Last night they didn't seem to have the space to do it. It could also just be that NCC was too much of a run threat so the D had to attack straight upfield.
Not sure.

I thought of that game almost immediately after posting my comment.  So let me restate it.  I can only remember one other time we were dominated like that 2015 vs UMU.  I'm talking about a complete game not just a quarter   But yes UMHB did that to us in the fourth quarter.

Some interesting stats.
Alex Peete with 5 receptions, for 12 yards.
UWW leading rusher, Max Meylor, 15 carries for 104 yards. Long carry was 44.
UWW leading RB rusher, Alex Peete, 17 carries for 79 yards. Long carry was 47.
UWW 84 offensive plays, 2 punts. NCC 65 offensive plays, 4 punts.
Time of possession was 20 seconds away from even.

Those Rutter punts! How was he able to get away with that?

They were successful on a 4th and 12 so regardless of the down/yardage when Rutter lines up behind center you had to respect the fact that they might do anything and above all stop them from getting a first down.  It's your only option.  We messed one of them up the others we just didn't penetrate their front well enough.  I wouldn't necessarily call it genius but it was damn effective in taking any chance of a punt return away from us.  They are very well coached.

Nah, they just stole it from Bethel/Roste in last years playoff game where we used it to great effect.

And Bethel stole it from St Thomas who has used it for quite a while, generally very successfully (please ignore last year's game at Bethel where Kilgore blocked it and I think it was returned for 6).

This makes me curious where it originated in the D3 ranks. Have teams been doing this for a while outside of UST?

The quarterback dropback punt thing? I feel like I've seen it a lot in D-III in the past five years or so, but my colleagues out East tell me it was not as prevalent out there.

Sometimes referred to as quick kick.
St Thomas used it extensively in the 2015 Stagg Bowl year with John Gould, who I believe was a punter in high school, and it's been used since then. Prior years, the QBs had a few punts each year but it was never as common. No idea what other teams used it prior to some I've seen in recent years in the MIAC.
