MUC57- I loved your post - and thank you for serving this country.
Your ideas for alternative places to protest (which I think we all agree is a protected right) are excellent. I remain confused as to why some feel protests/kneeling must occur during the national anthem. There are better ways to protest that would result in garnering greater support from Americans of all opinions/beliefs.

WIAC has announced suspension of all winter sports competition thru Dec 31. Guessing there goes any hope of a fall football season, not that there ever was much hope.

Thanks very much! As you mentioned, why kneel during the national anthem?
We're probably stuck with this for awhile.

This article is interesting in that it lays out some of the financial impact of COVID to various stakeholders as it relates to D3.

I don't remember paying for parking there. Maybe they don't collect in that lot before you go over the hill? Also interesting is the value and importance of D1 March Madness in financing D3 activities.

If I recall, the parking lot connected to The Perk is all reserved for people that bought parking passes. I think they used to charge $10 if there was room. The lots by the bookstore and Williams Center charge a lesser amount. You can park down the hill by the dorms for free. This is how I remember it anyway.

How about all of college sports reliance on March Madness revenue? Amazing.

Amazing, but shouldn't be a surprise.

Hello all!

Usually I post items about WashU games that I have or will broadcast, or about general observations from other games and events.  However, this post regards a topic that is quite a bit different--with the athletic shoe being on the broadcaster's foot.

I am going to attempt to cover 100 miles in a solo charity ultramarathon through an event that I have organized.  "Rett Gets Rocked Virtual Ultra Weekend" will be conducted in the subdivision where I live in St. Charles, MO, to raise awareness and research funds for Rett syndrome.  I get started at 9 a.m. Central on Saturday, October 3 and end at 5 p.m. Sunday, October 4.  Proceeds from the event will be split between Rettsyndrome.org (the only national organization spearheading research and providing resources for affected patients and their families) and the Rett Spectrum Clinic--a collaboration between the WashU School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Rett syndrome is a rare, non-inherited neurological disorder that is caused by a gene mutation in the brain.  Rett strikes typically when a child is 6-18 months old, and it takes away the child's ability to move and communicate.  Most of them end up in wheelchairs with active minds, but mired in the physical rubble that Rett creates.  And, the neurological damage prevents verbal communication and arm and hand movement for sign language.

In essence, Rett does to a child what Lucy in the "Peanuts" comic strip does to Charlie Brown when he tries to kick the football that she is holding.  The only difference is that Charlie Brown can get back up to try again.  Those who are afflicted with Rett syndrome don't get another chance to enjoy a vibrant life.

If you would like to make a donation to the cause, here is the link to my Rett Racers donation page:  https://rettracer.everydayhero.com/us/rett-gets-rocked-2020

Thanks for your time and consideration, and let's hope that we get back to playing and broadcasting sports much sooner than later!

AR is a panzy, and I don't say that based on my home team.
And no, I would not want him on the Bears.

Right.  :o

So we agree, he's a panzy and Da Bears wouldn't want him.

Ha- true enough.
You can understand it's hard for a Bears' fan to envision the team w a MVP caliber QB- there just isn't any real reference point for us. Oh yeah, there was the time Jim McMahon came into the MN game and threw 3 TD passes for the come-from-behind win. That's about it for my memory (not even sure I got that right).

I'm sure you'll find plenty of Bears' fans that would take AR in a heartbeat. For me, I'd be in constant flux watching the game. Wanting to win on one hand/appreciating his talent, while also eagerly awaiting his replacement.

Speaking from the viking's side ... you'd be surprised how much pure enjoyment comes from succeeding with a HOF Packers QB castoff. I'd also wager late career AR will be better than late career Favre was.

Hazz, that was a heartbreaking pick at the end of regulation. I was pulling for you.

BUT....
That Favre interception produced one of the most glorious radio play-by-play broadcast moments ever!  Just search "Favre Vikings Interception" on Youtube and Paul Allen's call will be the first option. The agony is palpable.  "This is not Detroit, man, this is the Super Bowl!"
