Any UWP intel? I'm expecting a solid WIAC squad that likes to pass. Can anyone take me a bit deeper on who their studs are on both sides?

Well....they didn't look that impressive last week in Texas. Oline had trouble pass blocking. Seemed like the QB had maybe a second to throw each time. Kind of a disappointing start for a usually solid UWP team.

Bethel by a couple scores.

Fast, physical, and disciplined was the nature of the day for UWW in putting a beating on the triple option of Salisbury today in Salisbury, Maryland.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Warhawks took control in the 2nd quarter, scoring twice and took a 14-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and never looked back.

Max Maylor was a highly efficient 16-23 for 227 yards, 4 TD's 0 int's, Alex Peete chipped in 86 yards rushing in 18 attempts & took a perfectly executed 10 yard screen pass from Maylor untouched into the end zone to cap a 3 play, 59 yard drive to put the game away 20 seconds into the 4th quarter.

Warhawks had only 1 penalty for 8 yards on the afternoon - almost unheard of from a Warhawk team in an early season game. Even during national championship years, I can remember 10-15 penalty games were common in early season games against inferior competition in past seasons.

Again like last week against Carthage, the UWW defense is in late season form. They contained the option attack of the Seagull offense with fast, aggressive pursuit from sideline to sideline & clean, crisp tackling, regularly forcing the water birds into multiple unaccustomed 3rd and long passing situations in the first half. The relentless pass rush never allowed the Seagull QB to set his feet and get off good throws, the linebackers and DB's were very active in their drops and coverage. In my view, this is as well as I've seen a Warhawk team perform in an early season game in many years. If I had to nit-pick anything, I would say the o-line and RB need to work on picking up blitzes. The defense surrendered only 1 TD on the day (the only other being a fumble recovery and return for a TD by the SU defense).

Overall, a very good team win vs a Salisbury team that will probably do well in their conference & region.

Yeah, overall a good day.  I'll take a 17 point win, on the road, against a top 10 team 10 out of 10 times.

I thought Max had his ups and downs, a little erratic early on but settled in. Probably just some early game jitters. Also, if you told me Peete would get 18 carries, I would have assumed he'll end up with at least 120 yards. Especially against a team that doesn't stop the run particularly well. He had a couple nice runs, but Salisbury did a fairly good job against our oline...all things considered.

Defense was great, couldn't have asked for much more. Only surrendered one scoring drive against a good offensive team. But yeah, when forced to drop back and throw...Salisbury is pretty awful.

I hear the Pioneers got bit pretty badly with the COVID bug today. To the tune of 8 guys. It remains a threat to ruin any team's season.

Heh.  Stout open the scoring on a flea-flicker.  Scoring with the oldest trick play in the books should get an automatic extra two points.

7-1 for the WIAC today. All but UWP got a convincing W.

My bad. UWL plays tonight. 6-1, for now.

Blugolds pull out a win on the road against Loras. Struggled to get anything going til mid way through the 3rd quarter and a 7-6 lead before reeling off 21 unanswered to win 28-6. Defense and special teams kept them in the game early until they were able to pull away late.

GBMAN

Congrats to Wisconsin-Whitewater on a solid win over a top 10 opponent.

Bleed- I'm not familiar with the rule- does a player have to test positive to be disqualified or just be in close contact with someone that tested positive?

Strong showing for UWW today. The defense was tremendous. Lots of guys flying to the ball to disrupt the option.
I was most impressed w Wiz on offense today. He looks more muscular and faster than 2019. He made a beautiful move after the catch for his second TD- and made a great block for Peete's screen pass TD.

Great start to a very good non con schedule.

Next Man Up

You can't help but be impressed by UW-W's performance today. To ride 910 miles in a bus, and deal with all the logistics involved in such a trip, and then beat a Top 10 team on its own turf is a noteworthy achievement.
