I hear the Pioneers got bit pretty badly with the COVID bug today. To the tune of 8 guys. It remains a threat to ruin any team's season.

Bleed- I'm not familiar with the rule- does a player have to test positive to be disqualified or just be in close contact with someone that tested positive?
A positive test results in that player being out. Contact tracing is then done and every player that had "close contact" with is listed. Then:

If a player is vaccinated, he has to wait two days and then he can be reinstated with a negative COVID test.
If a player is unvaccinated, he is out 10 days with no recourse. After the 10 days I'm assuming he must test negative before returning, but I'm not sure.

Close contact is within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes.

It's taken very seriously, at least at UWW

BoBo

Surprisingly, for the 2nd consecutive week, Top 25 voters elevate UWW ahead of the idle rival above them in the rankings without the assist of a first place vote. Last week it was North Central, this week Mount. I hope you're playing this week MHB if you expect to stay the top ranked team in D3?  ;D

That's a great question.  My understanding is that the NCAA issued "guidelines".  They didn't issue enforceable mandates. In other words, if my understanding is correct, we aren't going to be seeing any schools disciplined for failure to comply with a policy.  The NCAA issued "best practice guidelines".  What UWW is doing is within those guidelines. I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that all WIAC schools are following the same policy. I'm guessing that it is an agreement between schools.

What I'm not sure of is what the NCAA "best practice guidelines" are and whether that is what UWW/WIAC are doing or did they make their policy within those guidelines but even more strict? UWW tests all unvaccinated players three times a week.

UST canceled their first game because their NAIA opponent only had a 30% vax rate. Not because of actual COVID cases, but they felt the risk was too high. I wonder if we could see similar things. Like Team A has 10 players out with COVID, so Team B says they don't want to play. For UST it was a simple cancellation since it was NCAA v NAIA and week 1. How would that work within a conference? Is that a forfeit for Team B?

Let's say its UWSP vs UWW in the last week of the season and UWSP has 10 COVID positive players. In this scenario, does an unbeaten UWW risk a game against a team battling COVID one week before the playoffs?

My assumption is this will be a team by team decision, but I think conferences need to be proactive on this and have policies in place.

Stout playing at Stevens Point this weekend. Reminds me how glad I am we are out of the period of time we had to play a WIAC school as one of our non-conference games. Also, makes me appreciate this year's non-conference schedule even more!

BigMark

Weekly BigMark run down:

Grand Valley State vs UWL- Man what a tough game for UWL. I think UWL will finish top 2 in the league this year based off the first two games. Grand Valley just beat Colorado Pueblo who is always loaded. UWL hits a buzz saw here and gets beat by 31

UWRF vs Northwestern- Impressive win for the Falcons last week. I question how WIAC ready they will be by next weekend show down with UWL. It is good to see UWRF get to 3-0 for the first time in Coach Walker career. Falcons by 49

Stout vs Point- GAME OF THE WEEK. This is going to be one heck of a game. I was wrong on Point. I think Point is going to be much improved. I think Stout steals this one by 3 late in one hell of a game.

UWP vs Franklin- UWP get back on track here. They will be tested for WIAC play. UWP gets this one by 21

Berry vs UWW- Another good test for the Warhawks. Berry has two wins but not sure if either of them are "good wins". Warhawks by 35

I can not wait to get into conference play in two weeks. I will make my final prediction of how the conference will end.

I like the "another good test for the Warhawks" followed by "Warhawks by 35".
