Must have missed the D3football article from last week. Looks like some things never change:

Death
Taxes
WIAC being the best conference

;) 8-)

No doubt it's a great complement to the strength of the entire conference.
It is even more meaningful if the WIAC produces the national champion. For me, this season has great intrigue due to the success of NCC and Wheaton. Is UWW looked at as the little brother to NCC for now? Even to Wheaton since they beat NCC in 2019 and fared much better against them this year?

I would admit the CCIW is probably more top heavy. You can make a strong argument their top 3 would beat WIAC's top 3. Unfortunately the bottom half of the CCIW drags them way down.

For the most part I think the MIAC is most like the WIAC.....a well-rounded conference from top to bottom.

Would like to see how NCC rebuilds after losing their top play makers. Yes, they lost their QB last year, but everyone else returned. Whitewater, MHB, Mount (possibly Linfield and St. John's) are the only D3 teams that are proven they can rebuild year after year and still be a national contender. NCC could easily join that group if the next wave of recruits pick up where this era left off. Time will tell starting next year, as I fully expect NCC to return to the Stagg Bowl this year with who they returned from 2019.

Wheaton is a very good team. Yes they faired better than UWW did against NCC, but I think we all can agree H2H is the only way to truly determine who's the "bigger brother". With that being said I'm not putting Wheaton above UWW yet. Looks like most D3 football polls agree with that.

I agree CCIW top 2 > WIAC top 2, but who do you have at CCIW 3? I think the gap in that league is between top 2 and the rest, at least this season.

Fair point. I would agree...after their top 2 there's a big drop off. I would have WIAC's 3 (UWL or UWS) over CCIW's 3 (Carthage?)

Isn't this the year the WIAC and CCIW have an end of year slate of 'bowl games'? My brain has some foggy memory of this. If so, fun way to actually get some data points on comparison of the top to bottom strength of two top D3 conferences.

It's just one game, but that is this year, yes.

Week 2 of WIAC play lets dig in!

UWP at UWW- I might be more excited for this game than most. I have not sold out on UWP yet. Early in the year the rumor was that they were missing a bunch of starters due to covid. Since everyone has been back they are 2-0 and played UWO tough. I think this will be a game for 3 Q and UWW wins by 14 in a close game. I am thinking about making the trip down to the Perk this weekend to catch it.

UWO vs UWL- GAME OF THE WEEK. Might be one of the games of the year. I have had this one circled for a while. UWO has been very impressive on both sides of the football to start the year. UWL might have the best year up to this point - UWW. I would make UWL a small favor in this game but this is a coin flip game. Give me UWL by 3.

UWEC vs UW-Stout- Rivalry game! You never know what will happen on the war of 94 game. I think Stout rebounds here and gets after UWEC by 21.

UW Stevens Point vs UWRF- I am just not very interested in this game. I was starting to believe in the Falcons, and they did not show up for homecoing against UWL. Point is in for a long year. Both programs need to win this game. I think Point steals one here by 7.

UW-P at UW-W - I think we are looking at about a 37-14 game. UW-P will have a hard time slowing down UW-W and a one dimension offense doesn't work against UW-W.

UW-0 at UW-L- I've seen fools gold from UW-L early in the season before. I do think they will be improved. But I think people are under-rating UW-0 a bit. River Falls piled up 26 first downs on La Crosse.  I think the Titans by 10.

UW-EC vs UW Stout- I think you are spot on. I believe both of these teams are improved. But I think Stout wins this one pretty handily.

UW-SP at UW-RF- Meh. This may be Point's last legit chance for a WIAC win.  I don't see it, though. I'll take the Falcons by 4.

Anyone know if RB Graham will play for Stout this week? He was carried off the field at UWW. I thought it was a cramp at first but I don't think he returned.

Bleed, the fact that you've been publicly high on UWO (sounds like an Otis Campbell reference) makes me think they must be pretty dang good this year.

I'm pulling for a UWW shutout of UWP.

Excellent point on the NCC rebuild once the super-studs are gone.
From a poll standpoint I see UWW isn't Wheaton's lil bro. I wonder from a Wheaton football confidence level though.

I'm pulling for a UWW shutout of UWP.

I'm higher on UW-0 than UW-L, anyway. They have weapons.  Berghammer is a good, dual threat QB. They have three good running backs in MacCudden, Gerhartz, and Winkler. Steger is a very fast receiver, and Kasuboski a threat at tight end.  I think consistency in their O-line is an issue, but as we know that's a position that has great potential to improve as the year goes on if they stay healthy. Defensively, is where I have questions about them. Their defense hasn't been playing even close to the level of Whitewater, but my gut tells me it is better than La Crosse's defense. Maybe this is the year La Crosse has caught UW-0 and is the second best the conference, but I would be surprised.

But then again, I tend to forget that it's been two years of development for teams since we last saw them and not one. So maybe UW-L did make the jump. And I agree with WW that Stout could be in the conversation as well.  BigMark is right about UW-P's covid issues earlier in the season.  But at the end of the day, I don't think their offense is balanced enough nor is their defense good enough to contend.

I like to let the machinations come out and play every now and then.
Of course every team is hyper focused only on their next opponent, since I'm not playing, I am free to think about and discuss potential future games- its fun.

UWW certainly wouldn't think of itself as lil bro to NCC or Wheaton, but I'm not concerned w UWW's confidence. The issue is the confidence level other teams come in to a UWW game with. NCC surely wouldn't enter into a UWW game w those down-deep uncertainties a team has when it's never beaten one of the Purple Powers.
I imagine NCC's success against UWW would likely have tangible confidence benefits to a Wheaton team that's never beaten a purple power.
