We get quite a bit of backing in the comments section.  I'm an optimist and don't pretend to be unbiased, but I am extremely confident we will avoid the WIAC basement this year.

Despite the fact were graduating a lot of good starters, I agree. I think it's just gonna be a matter of seeing if our new guys can learn fast.

My daughter attends UMHB so I was casually looking at the football schedule a few moments ago. I saw Whitewater on the schedule and thought, wow, that will be a great game! Then I went to UWW's schedule and saw their non-conference schedule comprised of St. John's, UMHB and Berry, all very good national level programs. Kudo's to Whitewater for taking that on!

How can this be credible?  They've failed to pick the worst team in Vermont.  Vermont has 5 or 6 active football programs.  One of them has to be the worst.  How are we supposed to know?

I think here in the preseason River Falls continues to ranked too high both by d3football poll and WIAC. They lost QB Hinrichsen, they lost RB Fugate, they lost TE Beise. WR Groebner comes back, but who with any experience is going to throw him the ball. The spread motion offense is tough to learn. I just don't see how they duplicate last year and they play Saint John's and they have Whitewater and La Crosse on the road.

I totally agree with that but do you think their new offensive coordinator played a role in their success last year? And if that was the case, could they have repeat offensive performances in future seasons?

They can have that performance in the future, but you have the players to do it. Not sure they do this year. Last year was perfect for them.

But as Dave McHugh says in his basketball top 25 often, they're probably too high at 3 in the WIAC preseason football poll, but somebody has to go there. Oshkosh and Platteville would be next, but those teams at 3 probably isn't right either.

I spoke with UW-Whitewater head coach Kevin Bullis recently, as I preview UMHB's non-conference matchups this season. Here's what he had to say:

Thank you for posting.  Really a good read! If more teams don't start stepping up and playing these two teams, they may be seeing quite a bit more of each other in the future. Just wish they were located a little closer to each other.

Maybe BGB has only one logo from Wisconsin teams. Or he doesn't think much of the rest of our team other than the QB's.

Do we even know who our QB is? Let alone BGB?

What a joke

Well, we've got the top four in the state, so I guess they made the safe pick.   ;D

1. Lewandowski
2. Chryst
3. Ceniti
4. Poorman
5. Mertz

RF may be ranked too high, and the players they lost are very hard to replace. I do know that Coach Walker gives Coach Matheson, O.C., all the credit for the outstanding innovative offense of a year ago. The likely starter at QB will be Kaleb Blaha, a transfer from Winona a year ago. And QB may be the deepest position for the Falcons. Seth Howard, senior transfer from Simpson, is the likely no. 2 QB. Blaha played a number of backfield positions, including QB, a year ago. He will make people forget Hinrichson, good as he was. Coach Walker has great faith in him.

I actually think a bit differently than some. I think RF will be really good. I think they are closer to the top than they've been in a long time. I have a ton of respect for their coaching staff and I believe they have a stronger roster than some suggest. I may be wrong, but I am expecting big things for the Falcons this year.
