Mertz was a great guy. Coached so many different sports there. One legend: Once late in his career he was driving a FB recruit around campus when the driver's door of his old car popped open on a curve. He rolled out and the recruit had to stop the car

UWW '23 non-conference games:

SJU
@ John Carroll
@ MHB

That somehow seems harder than this year's brutal schedule  :o

Not sure what was more painful, listening to the two homers that called the game for Berry or watching UWW's offense today. Either way, both were pretty bad.

A win is a win I guess.

I was also a bit disgusted with the homerism on the call. Most specifically them claiming the reason they lost was UWW is a state school and has more advantages than everyone else. That view has been debunked and seriously played out. Heck, they're not even the biggest school in the conference and not even close to biggest school on D3. Georgia is supposed to be a hotbed for football recruits, keep them in state Berry.

Hats off to berry for taking the game, I hope it helps them see how much farther they need to come. They were competitive, but I think UWW had a game plan to not lose, vs give them a whoopin.

In their minds, they're probably thinking "wow, this is the number 4 team in the country?! We don't have far to go at all!"  ;D ;)

Joking aside, hopefully they'll straighten some thing out over the bye. This was a prefect storm of a trap game for them. Coming off a very emotional upset win. Then having to travel a long way to play a team by just going through the motions. It was hard for the hawks to match that intensity they had last week.

They should get it back in LaCrosse in two weeks

You didn't mention all the calls they felt went in UWW's favor, like the PI in the end zone they railed against for a long while or every good official's ball spot seem to be handed to help the Warhawks.

It could be worse 02, you could be a Platteville Pioneer alum after Hardin-Simmons crashed them back to earth!!

My bad, how could I have forgotten that. It only went on for a few quarters. Sorry. My bad.

This.  I will take the win and move on. As much as coaches dislike the concept of a trap game or their team not being "up" for every team, human beings are human beings.  This was a super long trip. I know they guys worked hard and gave full effort. Credit to Berry. Their defense did a nice job packing in to the line of scrimmage and we didn't execute well enough to make them pay very often.

On to conference play and Lew's return to La Crosse. Trust me, whatever juice was missing today will be back for that one.

I watched the 1st 5 minutes before I turned my phone off to attend my nephews wedding. After the wedding I checked the score and it was all over but the crying. I want to  thank my nephew for making me miss watching the game.

It was an important call, not a bad call.  There's a difference.  If they wanted to play the coulda, shoulda, woulda game, they needed to find a different hill to die on.

Because this is pass interference:

They were bad. The shots at Wisconsin public schools, high enrollment "having their advantages". Only UWW getting pass interference calls. Brutal to listen to. Plus they had no clue how forward progress works.

I think even Pat commented about them on social media
