Whitewater seems to make it a habit more than any of the top teams of playing down to the level of their opponents year after year. They're 2 and 2 this year. I place much of the blame on the coaching staff in this one. The players didn't look too motivated to be on the field today, especially the defense. They should have an embarrassing bus ride back to WW thinking about how poor they performed today.

Spot on Bobo!  Playing in their 4th road game in 5 games (3rd overnight trip) and coming off three games against Top 10 opponents, with Oshkosh coming up Friday night, how in the world could the Hawks NOT have been Stagg Bowl ready for this one?  To go up there and only outgain the Blugolds by 145 yards, get 10 more first downs, and win by 3 touchdowns is an absolute disgrace.  Hopefully the coaches will have the guys run sprints when they get back to Whitewater.

I think the defense would admit they could have done better ...you predicted they would give up only 7 points. Gave up some big plays in the first half

Strange, I thought it was the offense that was the weaker part of the Warhawks today. Blugolds secondary is the weak link of the defense and they really didn't exploit that as much as they should have I thought. Big play on the first play of the game was called back due to holding.

Defense got caught a bit by surprise on a screen that the Blugolds turned into a long TD. Second or third Blugold TD was aided by an illegal hands to the face by a defensive lineman.  Purple fans around me said there were 3 holding calls on the Blugolds on that play. Blugolds had a short field after an interception and came away with zero. I think it was still a 1 score game then.

Classic "trap game" scenario for the Warhawks, especially after seeing what Stout did to Eau Claire last week. They did what they had to do to win, which I'm sure isn't up to Whitewater standards, but a win on the road in the WIAC is still a win.

I think it was a terrific game by and for UWW and UWEC. UWW gets the best of every team. Playing through tight games is good for the team.

Of course the defense could have done better.  There are corrections to make and things to learn from this game for sure.  But there is a very wide margin from "The defense would admit they could have done better" and "They should have an embarrassing bus ride back to WW thinking about how poor they performed today."  Those statements lie in different stratospheres.

There is huge room for improvement for sure.  Defensively, we need to do a much better job of preventing the big play.  I'm confident the coaches will get that fixed.  But, the truth is that Eau Claire made some plays.

I will never be embarrassed or ashamed for a WIAC victory. And I posted the numbers. In spite of the Eau Claire playing well, in spite of giving up some plays, we did win by three TD's on the road.

It's not like the game we played up in River Falls in 2014 against a 2-5 team where they were within 20 yards of total offense of us and we needed to score with 26 seconds left in the game to avoid a loss.  Now THAT was something we just couldn't bounce back from.
