Wow. Almost 19,000 fans at the UWW/UWO game. Impressive.

Why didn't the UWO QB snap it on 4&1 when UWW was substituting players. Waited for the guy to get set then snapped it. Same player who was late to the play lined up offsides. Stuffed RB in backfield. TO on downs. Wow.

What a night, huge record breaking crowd on hand. I've been to many of Whitewater football games, but never have I seen that many cars tailgating before. absolutely insane!! Every parking lot, all the way down to the bookstore, was filled up. Great atmosphere.

Also, that was probably one of the better defensive games UWW had in quite sometime. Absolutely dominating Performance. Their QB was running for his life all day. Offense did good enough to win, but left some points off the board. Lew was off and on all game. Made some good throws and some bad ones. Running game I thought did well today.

Great (cold) night all around. Always nice beating UW-0 and knocking them out of playoff contention.  8-)

Both offenses left a lot to be desired. Wasn't all because of dominating defense - just bad offensive execution. UWW had illegal procedure problems all night, UWO lineman downfield illegally problems - one wiping out TD.

Lew played like he did in mop up duty last year. Many throws were off the mark either high & over the head of the receiver or short. Threw on the run most of the time. Rarely had a clean pocket to operate in. Best catch of the night came by the UWW band member just before halftime on a really wildly thrown Hail Mary attempt off the hand of #3 while running for his life at the same time. Waiting for #10 to play a complete all-around good game since win over UMHB. Beginning to think that game was just a fluke.

Yes bleed it's still a win, so there!!

After last week, I was beginning to think you didn't care what I posted.  Thanks for the love!

Evan was 26-34   for 347 yards and 4 TD's Vs La Crosse. Since you don't consider that a "complete all around good game", I'd love to hear your standard.

Having made that point, I agree with you about our offensive execution.  We need to be more consistent in that regard. The silly penalties have to stop.  And Oshkosh was too successful in disrupting our passing game for my liking.  But we also played it close to the vest. UW-0 has an opportunistic defense that feasts on turnovers. They are the type of team that creates momentum and seizes it to roll teams.  We felt confident that if we had great ball security and could play ground and pound all night, we would come out on top.  We ran the ball 41 times and threw only 21. And I doubt it would surprise you to know, we could give two ducks about style points. Zero.  Just win baby.

I was VERY happy with our O-line in the run game. They were super aggressive and executed very well in that regard. Oshkosh has a very good front seven and they never really found an answer for our running game. At least not until it was too late.

Our defense was great. Their best game of the year and it wasn't close. They made UW-0 look more pedestrian than they are. Our D-line dominated.

All in all, a great win.  Any time we can beat Oshkosh and piss you off at the same time, it's a good night.  Glad you tuned in after last week's disgusting three touchdown road win. The good news is you have the whole day today to watch other games in search of the perfect team.  May I suggest tuning in to Mount Union.  They play Capital.

Must be exhausting being you. Never satisfied, always critical every game. The Hawks quite possibly played the toughest 6 (non playoff) game stretch any team has ever done. Four games against ranked opponents, three in the top 10, including the #1 team in the country at the time. And they came out 5-1. FFS.

This was a very good win against a tough team. enjoy it once in awhile.  ::)

Bleed, following up on your comment that the UWW D made the UWO offense look more pedestrian than they are. That is what stood out most to me as well.
Sometimes it's hard to tell just how much of an offense's struggles are directly related to the play of the defense. In last night's game, the camera angle allowed us to see coverage on the UWO receivers- and UWW defensive backs played smothering defense. Regardless of the play calling, protection, or pass blocking, the receivers were covered. In the few instances where I saw a route opening up, the D line pressure completely disrupted the UWO QB.
Easily one of the most dominant UWW defensive efforts I've seen against UWO.

The UWW run game gets almost equal credit as the D. That was the run game that UWW deployed in the championship years- which allowed for true complementary football.

Very glad I was wrong in thinking UWO would steel this game.

Like most games there was some good and there was some bad.  But despite all of it I never felt we would lose.  The defense was just too dominating.  The only time their offense was effective was when we tried to remove the six points they had scored after a penalty and instead added 24 giving them a 30-17 lead briefly until it was corrected. Our board operator had never done that before so there was some confusion regarding the process.

BoBo if we were perfect what would we work on?

Someone mentioned the tackles earlier. Our RT is 6'8" 346 lbs.. Their RT was 6'5  325 lb. (If I remember correctly).  Those are some big dudes.

On to Platteville.

Wow 19,000 fans I now know why my wife and I found a table for a fish fry last night without waiting.  Two thoughts on last night's crowd,
1. The game was played on Friday night because WW hosts the State Marching Band Championships on Saturday.  But years ago WW and Platteville played on Thursday night and drew nice crowds. Would the WIAC consider having some games on Thursday night between teams that are close to each other in miles. Players would be back in time for Friday classes, students would be on campus and no competition from the Badgers.

2. If my memory serves me well the original plans for Perkins Stadium called for a 20,000 plus capacity with stands on both the West and the East side. Given WW's success and their attendance will WW ever add stands on the East side?

Lastly I hope last nights victory over Oshkosh leaves WW over confident when they head to Platteville next week but I can only hope.

It could very well be closer than anticipated. We have a habit of playing down (and up) to our competition at times this year.

And special thanks to the UW-0 football team for being a part of the record breaking crowd at Perkins Stadium last night. Pretty sure they were included in the count since they were just "spectators".

The original plans did call for a concrete structure on both sides of field and 20k sounds about right.  Forrest Perkin's original idea foresaw UWW playing at a different level against teams like Northern Illinois for example.  (Bleed, please correct me if I am wrong.  I was a student and this is what I remember. ) That didn't end up happening and neither did concrete structures on both sides.  I don't see it happening anytime soon.  I don't think the university sees a need and more importantly there is no money to do this. But what a great place it already is.

Oshkosh brought a nice crowd last night filling their side and lining up along the fence behind.

We haven't played our best on the road but we kinda like that pick axe thing hanging in our building so I have a feeling nobody is looking past UWP.   :)

On to Platteville.

It was me. They're 6'7" and 6'6" sophomores....both look solid - not sloppy at their weights!

A Good diet and perfecting their technique at that age, in that conference, should get them a look if they seriously pursue football the next few years... as they get stronger. D3 has produced some solid OLs post college.
