Well, I'm hoping the end of season All American list looks much better for UWW than this preseason list. Yeouch.

I'm sure it will, but also, plenty of teams can succeed without one of the top three QBs, top six RBs, top six WRs, etc.

In case it needs saying, I'm not questioning the preseason list, just hoping UWW has guys that rise to the top this season.

I agree with your statement above in general. If we defined success as final four or two, I'm curious how many make it without one or more AA's. I reckon I can look it up.

John O'Grady, former head coach at UWRF
and  assistant coach at UWW told me today he would be back at UWRF as an assistant coach thits fall.

wasn't he the same guy that drove RF out of relevance?

Yes, but he also coached the only Falcon team to win a playoff game. After that, his talent dropped off until he resigned and Matt Walker was hired. Then, he went to WW to coach for Bullis. He and Bullis coached together at RF prior to that.

He did do that, but also, Adam Kowles is pushing 50 years old, so ...

To be accurate, after being HC at UWRF O'Grady was an assistant at Oshkosh then at Stout before going to Whitewater.

The Third Division

What is O'Grady's endgame if it isn't being a HC at the D3 level?

He must be pushing 70 so being an assistant at UWRF probably is the end game for football.

I'd agree with this. Coach O is one of my favorites. I got to room with him on road trips. He is an old school story teller. Awesome guy, awesome coach! We had some great talks. About football, about the past, and about life. He's the real deal.

He lives in (or near) River Falls. I think he's just to the point that if he's going to coach he doesn't want to be away from his wife for five months of the year to do it. He will be a great resource in many ways for Coach Walker if he chooses to utilize him.

Fred, if at any point during "Whitewater week" Coach O gets to give the team a pep talk, could you have someone record it for me? That would be pure gold. :)

Continuing to secure his Wisconsin state pension and retiring comfortably.

Bleed--I would gladly record a pep talk if privy to it, but chances are slim for that to happen, considering that it could happen anywhere or time during that week, possibly at half time, or on the field.

On another note, he was wearing a baseball cap with the inscription Beat MHB on it and said he bought one for every player.

That is super cool. I'm hoping they do.

Last year, he didn't buy a hat for players, but he wore one each week with the opponent's name or an abbreviation of their name.  He had one for each opponent.  "Beat ____".  Classic JO

fredfalcon

My assumption of JO's role at UWRF changed after I asked Coach W whether JO was an assistant coach. MW said JO would be a "consultant" to Walker on the kicking team, and that he was glad to have him. That would explain why JO is not listed as an assistant coach. He has not been on the field for any of the practices yesterday or today. UWRF has 165 players practicing, split into  morning and afternoon groups.

Oshkosh about to go through some things, other UW schools also could be impacted:

QuoteUW-Oshkosh plans to cut about 200 non-faculty staff and administrators this fall, while furloughing others, UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt said Thursday, as the university faces an unprecedented $18 million budget shortfall. The cuts amount to about 20% of university employees.

200 non-faculty cut and others furloughed any news out of Oshkosh on how this will impact athletics?

Nothing I have read indicates athletics will be affected.

Most probably in 6-11 day range for the school year.

In an article in the LaCrosse Tribune it was announced that Platteville and Parkside will be implementing furloughs like Oshkosh to deal with budget deficits. The article goes on to say that UW LaCrosse and UW Madison were the only schools with positive cash balances last year. Looks like we will be seeing more of this in the future.
