The Third Division

So I went to whitewater from 2018-2020 after transferring from a school in Michigan I ultimately didn't end up liking.

What I knew was that the school peaked enrollment wise in 2016 to the point some students in some halls had to literally make lounge spaces their dorm room. They then had a campus master plan to build like 5 more new halls to account for the growth.

What they didn't realize was that their enrollment would start to dip by the time they started construction of one of them. And by the time it was finished they couldn't even fill it.

Idk i just remember hearing stories of how they went from "too many students, not enough rooms," to "not enough students, too many rooms". I'm sure bleed knows what I'm talking about here.

There are some dorms that probably could stand to be replaced, so I think they'll work it out. I think they've stopped after the two most recent built halls?

My assumption of JO's role at UWRF changed after I asked Coach W whether JO was an assistant coach. MW said JO would be a "consultant" to Walker on the kicking team, and that he was glad to have him. That would explain why JO is not listed as an assistant coach. He has not been on the field for any of the practices yesterday or today. UWRF has 165 players practicing, split into  morning and afternoon groups.
165 players practicing? Holy moly. I know all schools are struggling with enrollment but that's a little over recruiting.

My understanding is that we'll carry 108 players on our roster.  Right now we're practicing with 128.  I think we started with around 140 or so.   Some decide it isn't for them after all.

Hey Everybody! Week #1 of the 2023 WIAC Pick-Em has been posted.

WIAC games are worth 3 points each, national games are worth 2. You are picking winners without messing with threads.

Note that there are three games on Thursday night this week so don't wait too long.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Why was Kaleb Blaha not mentioned as a notable returner by the person who posted the order of finish in the WIAC? Dumb!

He led the conference in scoring and total offense last year.

Agree. Probably the same people who voted for that Whitewater QB to be a semifinalist for the Gagliardi trophy. I mean....how did that happen! Definitely wasn't the best QB in that conference. Maybe not even the 2nd best. And don't give me the whole "he was a QB for a team who made the playoffs." Wasn't because of him.
I don't know, maybe the same people who made him a semifinalist where the same ones who told him he was good enough to play D1 football.
I guess grandparents can be that way.
But don't worry man. Your boy Kaleb will get his revenge this year. Your UWRF team will win your WIAC conference. Most likely will be between your team and UWO. Will be a fan from a distance for both those teams.

Hard-hitting first post.

Were the other WIAC quarterbacks nominated for the Gagliardi Trophy? How were their GPAs and community service credentials?

You never know where you're going to find the next diamond in the rough. With talent pools getting deeper and deeper, coaches can only recruit so many players and dig so far for the gems. Carrying as many players as possible allows you to find more of those gems. But yes, it is also bringing in tuition dollars. It also gives more kids a chance to play the game they love for a few more years, even if they never see the field. I don't see the downside, and really don't understand the complaints.

Not one of the one hundred sixty five players from UWRF has quit, According to coach Walker
1 person who would applaud this number is the chancellor.

Kaleb Blaha was listed as a returning All-Conference player. The "Notable Returning Offensive Players" were players who were not All-Conference last year but still notable.

So Blaha wasn't slighted at all.

Welcome to the Boards.  Interesting first post.

I coached college athletics over a decade. I have no problem if every kid is being told the truth. Being a coach I know of programs in many different sports that weren't transparent. Wasted kids and families life, time and money being lied to.

Over recruiting. That's the problem.

If all players know we have 160 some kids at "tryouts" and you will "grey shirt" and then join another 160 man group the next year I have no problem with it at all.

It has little to do with finding "gems" and much more to do with finding tutition dollars.  FWIW I've got no problem with it.  It does give kids a chance to keep practicing what they love and play in a JV game. As long as coaches are honest about the kid's chances it's their decision to decide if it's for them.  But let's call a spade a spade.
