La Crosse will be the WIAC Pool A rep.  But will they be the best WIAC team in the playoffs this year? Or will they be last year's version of the Minnesota Vikings (11-0 in one score games, only to bow out early in the playoffs).

La Crosse's margins of victory against non-overmatched WIAC teams (everyone but UW-EC and UW-SP) were 3,3,3,4,and 5.

Against those same opponents, UW-W's margins of victory/loss vs those opponents were (-3 against La Crosse), 7, 16, 17, and 22.

I wouldn't mind the opportunity to play La Crosse again to see if the game with them was truly the outlier it appears to be.

The blocked kick was low to start with. And there is some question about whether it would have crossed the bar without being blocked.

Sorry for the tough loss, Fred. Falls showed a lot of character in coming back in that game.

You gotta give LaCrosse credit for those nailbiter victories.  Somehow, someway they seem to find a way to prevail time and again. But I'm with you and I'd really like to see us have another shot at them.  Their luck has to run out sooner or later doesn't it?

Here's a notion to discuss, as it is being on the MIAC board. If, and it may be a big if, the Johnnies get an at large bid, are they seeded higher than the MIAC Pool A? When, not if, UWW gets in, are they a higher seed than UWL.? (I know there are no seeds, right ;D)

I coached D3 for a long time so I know how this all works. It will be an absolute travesty if the playoff committee doesn't let UWL, UWW and UWRF in. Do what's right.

I saw River Falls play earlier this year (UMHB) and streamed a couple more. They look to be at least a top 10-15 team, but I'm not sure how much that means to the committee.

Pool C lock
Whitewater, 8-1, 3-1 vs NCAA regionally ranked teams. Best wins River Falls and St. Johns/John Carroll. Lock for Pool C with win this week.

Bubble Pool C - Best 3 of 4 In my Opinion
Wheaton, 8-1, 1-1 vs NCAA regionally ranked teams. Best win regionally ranked Augustana IL. Loss vs North Central.

St. Johns, 7-2, 2-1 vs NCAA regionally ranked teams. Best win #6 Trinity. Losses vs Whitewater and unranked Gustavus.

River Falls, 7-2, 0-2 vs NCAA regionally ranked teams. Best win unranked UMHB. Losses vs Whitewater and La Crosse.

John Carroll, 7-2, 1-2 vs NCAA regionally ranked teams. Best win regionally ranked Marietta. Losses vs Whitewater and Mount Union.

Assuming all four above win this week, the committee has a tough one. Honestly, I think River Falls could be the best of the four, but they also might have the weakest resume with no regional ranked wins. UMHB ending up outside the regional rankings hurts them.

UWW, St Johns and UWRF can only be considered one at a time and assuming UWW is first off the board, St Johns blocks UWRF (or visa versa) until the other is picked. John Carroll may not be the highest C in the 4 either and Wheaton/Coe will be battling for top spot among Cs in the 5.

I'm not a big margin of victory guy (unless it's a blowout). I think UWL has shown a remarkable ability to do what it takes to win, including at UWW. UWW had its chance in round 1 to be the alpha male. Until round 2 comes around, I have to go w UWL as the best team from the conference.

Of course you do. You have always had an affinity for the flavor of the day.

Well, my flavor of the day is UWRF.
I can be a UWW fan and still appreciate and respect the play of the competition.

You most certainly can. There's no one better at it.

Great interview with La Crosse QB Keyser Helterbrand on this week's d3football.com podcast.  Plus a short flash comment from Coach Janus. Both of them acquitted themselves very well. Worth a listen.

So....

If Whitewater beats Eau Claire and receives an NCAA bid and...

If Oshkosh beats River Falls and Platteville beats Stout, who goes to the Isthmus Bowl?

They sure ran out of steam after that heartbreaking loss to Mt Union in 2017. I think UWO was the last WIAC team to beat North Central.
