Quote from: The Third Division on September 07, 2024, 06:18:12 PMI don't know if anyone else noticed this, but I think this is the best Warhawk team I have seen in years. Less than 10 seconds away from shutting out the 19th ranked football program in d3.

I guess I missed something because I didn't notice anything extraordinary today.

However, it was nice to see a Warhawk turnover-free game and only 2 penalties.

Platteville beats Lakeland 65-0. Hard to tell if that means anything but a win is a win. Lakeland's coach has Platteville ties so I think thats why they schedule the game. Platteville plays Dubuque next week for regional bragging rights. On a non d3 note I enjoyed watching LL's Kansas Jayhawks almost beat Illinois.

I don't think the strength of the WIAC was much of a mystery. That said I also don't think preseason rankings are generally very accurate.

UWO dominated the LOS and that's why they won. I was impressed with UWO's QB. They should be a solid offense in the WIAC this year.

Strong showing by the WIAC yesterday. Good wins against some supposedly strong teams.

Kaleb Blaha rushed for 111 yds, threw for 315 yds (69% completion rate) in win over Alma. He did not play 4th q. becuz of injury. He walked off field at game end so don't know extent/kind of injury. Falcons have next Saturday off.

Blaha injury is slightly strained hamstring. Two coaches said he will be fine.

Not uncommon after fall camp. Glad to hear it. Sounds like the coaches played it smart.

La Crosse hosts D2 Northern Michigan on Saturday. Last year, the Eagles pounded the Wildcats 34-3 and I anticipate another win against a very young NMU squad.

Platteville wins the "Battle of the Bridge" over University of Dubuque 38-7. Another good day for the WIAC.

Nice win for UWW. I was traveling last two games so only caught a bit of video.
It looks like UWW didn't have its two top receivers today- I don't think. Anyone know the deal?
Defense looking really good at line of scrimmage.

The only missing receiver was Steven Hein, who was held out of both games so far for precautionary reasons. He expects to be ready for Mary Hardin-Baylor.

It was a good win. Lots to clean up, but to get a road win against those guys was good. From what I heard yesterday, they had something like 16 transfers since moving to D-II, including a number of grad student transfers. They were really physically mature and athletic. It was a good experience for our guys to go against high level athletes like that. IMO, Roosevelt lacked the discipline and sense of team possessed by UW-W. That could be a function of this being their first year in D-II coming out of NAIA (I think, broadly speaking, NAIA teams tend to have less discipline than D-III teams have). But it also could be a case of this being their first game with all those transfers. With large roster turnover, it takes a bit to gel.

UW-W faces a similiar challenge next week. UMHB has had a ton of roster turnover with a lot of really talented guys added to that team (but also losing quite a bit of talent). They will have great athletes. We will have to play well to win. Like last year, these three games should prepare us well for the WIAC.

With the start Oshkosh is off to, the October 5th conference opener looks like it will be a great game!

UWL looks pretty strong as well. You know my leanings, but with the expanded field, could the WIAC get 3 or even 4 teams in? UWW, UWL, UWO, UWRF.

I was surprised to see that we had rushed for 170+ gross yards and ended with 150+ net yards. Their front seven were pretty decent and they flowed east/west quickly.  I didn't feel like we had our run game going even that well.
