Anybody have good directions from 94 to Carson Park for the UWEC game tonight?

Take HWY 37 off 94 to Clairemont Ave.  Then take a left down a bridge under construction.  Take next right and turn left right before the DQ and you are at Carson Park.

26--

Thanks.  Be sure to bring some Blugold fans by the Stiftungsfestivities.  I guarentee the burgers are better than whatever is in the tent.

Looks like another long year for the Pointer defense.  Guys jumping around not knowing where they should be.  Did the staff watch the wrong film?  Trying to man up those receivers-unbelievable.  Finally fell back into a man under two deep after it was to late.  Lucky the cowboys didn't play a good team from the WIAC.  They are very beatable and mistake prone.  Pointers defense wasn't prepared very well.  Putting in your second offense and running your two minute offense is another bonehead move by the coaching staff.  If you think you can win the game keep the number ones in.  If not run out the clock and take it as a learning experience.  You would think Miech would know better.  You see the result.  This game is an example of a poorly prepared team loosing to a team that would have 2 to 3 losses in the WIAC.

My God, Ticker.  That was ugly.  Is that really the best team the MWC can put on the field?  You owe me two cases.  But I suspect we may not be playing each other again for a while.

WARHAWKS[/color] leading 45-0 when I quit listening.  In an uncharacteristic look the two quarterbacks had combined for five touchdown passes and the radio guys were refering to the offense as an "arial circus."

Mr. Downtown

Oshkosh wins 31-29

Titans were up 17-0 at one point, but William and Penn made things close, at one point the game was 24-22, but the Titans were able to hold off.

Moriarty had 176 yards rushing for Oshkosh, on 32 carries. It might not be up against WIAC competition, but its nice to see the Sophomore be able to take that big of a load.

Patek's performance was...a little shakey. 8-19 is not impressive, however two long touchdown passes to Steve Stoltz is promising to know that Oshkosh has a deep threat. Patek will come around, but it looks like the Titans passing game is going to be a lot of playaction type of plays, seeing that 53 of the plays were rushing, compared to 19 passes. In my humble opinion, Oshkosh has to be a little more balanced. But hey, a win is a win, no matter how you look at it. Now its on there way to Concordia, a team that has made it to the playoffs the past 2 years.

It is nice to see that whoever copied my picks got a perfect week 1.
Way to go Devils!!!

UWEC loses 35-28 to SJU.

SJU dominates the first 2 1/2 quarters using both the run and pass effectively to lead 35-7.  Blugolds then block 3 straight punts to come within 7.  SJU runs it on 4th and 25? because they were afraid to punt it again.  EC gets it down to about the 20 for the last play in which the QB tries to run for it.  What was up with that?

I was kind of surprised EC gave up so many rushing yards (over 200).  They usually do good against the run, especially against SJU the last few years.

EC needs to change the defense their corners play.  They play way off the receivers.  SJU just ran timing patterns all day.  EC needed to get in their face and bump them to throw off the timing and give the D-line a little more time to pressure the QB.  EC has bigger, physical corners so I think this would be a good defense for them.  There's no way the corners can continue giving these large cushions to receivers like they have been doing the last few years.

Deciding play of the game has to be when a SJU receiver and EC corner both go after the ball in the endzone.  The officals told the Blugolds that it was an interception.  Then an offical comes in and says it was a TD.  The TD stood.  Did the EC player catch it first or was it dual possession?  It was close!!!  At the time, it seemed like a meaningless play, but it was a big call in the game.

EC lost their top offensive player, WR Matt Evenson, for the year.  A few days ago he broke his collarbone.

St. Johns (winner 35-28)  tried to give the game away to UWEC, and the Blugolds had a shot to tie on the last play of the game. What a ballgame!

But St. Johns' offense was too good to be contained, being on the field for a 37-22 minutes time-of-possession advantage. Is there a team in the WIAC that will run as sophisticated offense as the Johnnies did? Weber was a stud, and Beaudry pitched in, too. Is there a tandem in the WIAC as good as this?

It seemed to me the Blugold offense wasn't quite in synch yet; Krzyzanowski seemed to overshoot a couple receivers a few times, and they didn't seem to know the ball was coming. The team's air game will work itself out, I think, but you're not going to win when Gast only gets 11 carries for 10 yards. His two best carries were brought back on holding plays.

Seems as if penalties also played a role in stopping the Blugold offense. They stopped momentum, and turned it over to the Johnnies' rather potent offense.

On the plus side, the Blugolds special team blocked three punts; two of them were recovered for touchdowns. It got so bad on special teams for SJU, that on 4th and 26 from midfield, with the score 35-28 and 50 seconds left, the Johnnies ran a run, to avoid another blocked punt...

It was a good test for the 'Golds; they were outplayed for the first half (21-7), but showed a lot of feistiness and character on special teams. If they work out the kinks on offense, and give the D a chance to rest, they will be in the mix for the conference title...

Hey Buf -

The Blugolds got burned a couple of times by Brett Favre shuffle passes, too... And yep, the timing passes picked them apart a bit...

It was a strange play on the INT/TD. It was on the far side of the field from where I was, so I couldn't see it. But it was a sideline play, and when the two players went down, I thought the Johnnies guy had it. But when they got off the ground, 11 Blugolds were signalling their ball and first down, going the other way. Not sure which ref made the initial call, but he was eventually over-ruled. It took them forever to come over and give coach Hoffman an explanation, too...

Was it just me, or did the Johnnies fans make more noise? Unfortunately, on a rainy night, and a 21-deficit at half, about half the UWEC students left. They missed a great second half...

Plattfan

UWPlatt wins 26-0 over Dubuque.  Dubuques QB gets sacked 11 times!  All I can say is damn
