Last week before we start the games that really matter:

Eau Claire
Platteville
Point
River Falls

Went to the RF game against Bemidji and was a little nervous about picking Bemidji to win.  RF stayed with them until the end when they needed to become a little more desperate.

With the close game at PLU last year, I think the falcons can chalk up a W.  Homefield advantage will be the difference in this game.

GO FALCONS!

Don't sell the lute's  short , they showed The d -3 world in 99 that they can travel across the country every week and still get the job done..

Go Lute's..
Ataway, Ataway..

My picks:
Point... 3 L's in a row? Not a chance.
River Falls.... 3 L's in a row? okay okay but I'll take the Falcs anyway.
Eau Claire... home field not good enough for St. F... 'golds bring the pain.
Augustana... we'll let the Pios record in Rock Island speak for itself.

As a Blugold fan I need to point out how good the Blugolds opponent is this week.  St. Francis is no joke team.  Their NAIA playoff runs are well know but also this is a team that beat D1-AA Indiana State 42-10, this year.  Indiana State is part of the Gateway Conference with teams such as Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois.  If that doesn't prove the different level Indiana State is on, they play Texas Tech this year in Lubbock, TX.  So unlike some D1-AA teams like, Valpo, Drake, and other non scholarship teams this St. Francis team beat a real D1-AA team and appears to be a very difficult game for the Blugolds.

My Picks:

Point- they are due
Falls- Travel takes a toll on PLU
Platteville- close one
St. Francis- I hope I'm wrong but the reasons below are why I picked them........

      - 6 returning NAIA All-Americans

      - 9 players return who either started or played major minutes in 2004 on an offense that ranked No. 3 in NAIA scoring, No. 2 in NAIA rushing and No. 1 in NAIA total offense

     - 2004 NAIA Rawlings Player-of-the-Year Cory Jacquay

     - 8 players return who either started or played major minutes in 2004 on a defense that finished No. 4 in NAIA scoring and 11th in total defense

     - a highly competitive class of red-shirt freshman that includes 10 players who earned all-state recognition in high school

      - a 2005 freshman class that includes seven members of the Methodist Medicine Center Indiana North-South All-Star Classic and 15 all-state selections.

Got a bad feeling about this game, Prove me wrong Blugolds!!!

You can add another "benefit" to St. Francis.  If it's St. Francis from Fort Wayne, IN, they also give out scholarships; however, I wouldn't bet against your team just because they throw out a lot of stats that look good.  I'd go with the WIAC team on this one, especially one of the title "contenders".

BTW: Indiana State was 4-7 last year and 0-3 this year.

Desertcat1:

Not taking anything away from the Lute's.  I played in the game last year and had it not been for a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown the Falcons MAY have won the game.  That play ended up deciding the game at the end.

All I was saying is that it will be an excellent game but the traveling will take its toll.  The 99 team may have been able to do it but there are not any players left from that team still playing.

Should be a great game either way and I look forward to seeing it.

Anybody know where the Lute's are staying when they come to River Falls??  Are they in the Twin Cities or in River Falls??

GO FALCONS!!!

I don't remember when the last time was the lute's started off   this bad, and  most of the staff that made that National Championship run are still working hard, and will have the boys ready.  Although they are rebuilding this year and  I just don't want to see them 0 for 3 coming into the catdome next week.. that could make then real hard to handle for the cats..  It is always a good game..

So Go Lute's attaway, attaway..

Hey desert, did you know that it's not really a dome?  ;)  Despite a national championship the fund raising came up short and they never did put a roof on it.  ;D

Plattfan

Am I the only one here that thinks the cat dome has got to be wussiest name for a stadium ever?  I mean here is what a cat dome is supposed to be ........

Plattfan,
You crack me up, you have dome envy. :o

If I'm reading the schedule right, it looks like UW-LaCrosse has a three week stretch with no games???  Looks like the next posted game is Oct 1st.  Is this correct?  If so, do other WIAC schools have the same situation?  Seems like far too long of a break once the season has started.

That's what we give the defending conference champs.  It's certainly not in our best interest!  This is not common, but they had trouble finding a third non-conference game and their bye week just happened to land during the same time.
