As I recall from PLU games of years past, Frosty Westering (the father of the current coach) never believed in kicking.... It was strange but they did beat Bethel 41-13 in 2000.

There were bigger problems for PLU, they obviously do not look like the teams I have seen over the past few years. the QBs timing was off most of the game and when it appeared that PLU was about to turn the RF Pass Defense into swiss cheese they ran the ball again.

Anyway, I have the photos online from the game. Please purchase photos to support D3football.com's photographers!

Thank you,
Ryan

FredFalcon,

Wasn't dissing the D.  Lutes could move the ball with SOME ease in the first half; mistakes cost them a few possesions (int, no kicker, pemalties).  Defense played EXCEPTIONALLY well; especially compared to the last few years at RF.

All I was saying is there is always room for a little improvement.  This is one of the better defenses I have seen at RF since I have been here.

GO FALCONS!!!

TRU,

Not many NAIA schools have the full amount of scholarships.  Carroll is one of those schools and that is a big reason why they are the 3x defending NAIA champion.

St. Francis is a very good small college team.  Just two weeks ago the cougars spanked scholarship I-AA Indiana State 42-10.  The Blugolds should have no shame is dropping to a team that should be a heavy favorite to be playing in the NAIA title game.

Falconforlife--sorry I mis-read your post. Yes, they can always use some improvement on D.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Mr. Downtown

Is Platteville that pathetic defensively?

Seriously...over 80 rushes...and only one pass! When do you start having all 11 guys in the box?

Also, what is wrong with the offensive as well. Not seeing many good things coming out of Platteville these days.

A friend of mine went to Wartburg college inIowa, and has told me of their battles with "arch-rival" Luther. This has me wondering: Whom does each WIAC school consider to be the "arch rival"? I always thought La Crosse and Eau Claire would be natural rivals, but La Crosse has had stronger football over the years, while the 'Golds have had better basketball. This relative disparity has prevented the rivalry from being what it could be. What of the other schools? Perhaps there are different arch-rivals in football and basketball. Any thoughts ?

voice- if those were your picks, then you're actually 4-0, not 3-1. I have you down as 4-0 this week, 20-3 overall.

And another Coleman will be in Wisconsin this upcoming week as Keith McMillan and I travel to Whitewater to take in the Eau Claire/Whitewater game as part of a Central Time doubleheader (we're also seeing Wheaton/North Central that night). Looking forward to it.

It would seem that WQOW and WXOW have tried to create a football rivalry between La Crosse and Eau Claire by broadcasting the game on TV in recent years. I would agree that the disparity between the basketball and football programs has prevented building a big rivalry.

To me, it always seemed, particularly from about 1988 to 1998, that UW-L's arch rival would have been Whitewater. If I remember correctly, those two shared or won the WIAC outright during that stretch. Most of those games were pretty intense.

Edited... prior to Winona State building a better football program and dropping UW-L from the schedule, that was a big season opening rivalry dating back to 1911.

If I'm reading the schedule right, it looks like UW-LaCrosse has a three week stretch with no games???  Looks like the next posted game is Oct 1st.  Is this correct?  If so, do other WIAC schools have the same situation?  Seems like far too long of a break once the season has started.

Bisondad

It's correct. If you look at the open dates section on the website, you'll see that UW-L has no non-conference games on the schedule from 2006 to 2008. Despite travel costs, hopefully then can get another series with an ASC team or maybe an NWC team.

Pat,
Out conversation with you on the show Sat. regarding venues in d3 football fits right in with your visit to WW on Sat.  Can't wait to hear what you think about what I consider the best facility in our conference.  We will ask you about that next Sat.  Thanks, again for being on.  We are really enjoying your segment.  La Buda(MHS football coach), Strop, and Stout Women's coach Mark Thomas were all in house during your segment and thought it was very good.  Mark wanted to talk to you but we wouldn't give him the air time because the football season is still what it is all about.   Mark just received a very deserving "Coach of the Year" award for his basketball success but he is also on the Stout football staff.

First, I do think Augustana's run offense is pretty good (not to say UWP should have given up 400 yards rushing); however, if the offense was productive that stat becomes less important because UWP has thrown for 400 yards and still lost.

Second, the offense is clearly struggling and that may be because this team is pretty young up front.  I think every starting offensive lineman is a Sophmore, and this is a huge deal for this offense.  The one thing UWP has been solid in recent years has been the protection of the quarterback, but there are some growing pains this year.  Likewise, the best receiver (and go-to-man) has been out since the early part of the Stout game.  I know injuries are part of it, but it seems this team has been hit hard in recent weeks.  Nelson went out the Augie game early in the 3rd (or late in the 2nd); however, his replacement was able to put together a scoring drive (not sure if Augie had in 1st defense or not).

This offense is successful when the quarterback can make plays, and we just haven't seen that yet.  Although Nelson can be effective if he gets into a groove.  It remains to be seen (probably has been seen) if this style of offense can be successful in such a physical conference, but this team is better than what they have put on the field to start this season.  The good thing is they have a week off to get things back together for LaCrosse, and I am confident we'll get some conference wins.

Southfan

First, don't be so confident your going to get some conference wins!  Second, just wait till you see how bad Auggie does in the CCIW and then your going to feel worse.  So you guys had a GREAT SEASON LAST YEAR AT 6-4!!! WOW!!!  Plan on being 1-9 this year and looking for a new head coach because if EMMY doesn't get it done then he's out of there.

Pioneerbacker

Southfan,

I was simply replying to a poster's question of what's going on this year.  I did not say we are going to win conference.  If you truly know anything about the WIAC, you'll know "upsets" are bound to happen.  So, I'm still confident we'll get more wins, and it's not my job to predict if Coach Emendorfer will be back next year.  All I can do is support the team.

*Also if 'your' going to slam me (not that I care), then do you yourself a favor and spell things correctly.

wiacfan

The WIAC is full of rivalries, but for the most part, it's sport by sport.  Eau Claire and Stout have a natural rivalry only separated by 25 miles on I-94.  Whitewater and La Crosse had a healthy football rivalry in the 90's.  Women's basketball has healthy rivalries between EC, Oshkosh, Point.  It all depends on whose been winning of late and for how long.

Mr. Downtown

If you are going by all sports in WIAC, I really do think the best rivalry is between Whitewater and Oshkosh. Seriously, bad blood is brewing between these two schools. Whether is was last years O.T football game (WW winning by 6), Men's Basketball ("The Shootout" 97-92 O.T. Oshkosh) Women's Basketball (63-61 Oshkosh) and of course Baseball (Which Whitewater has dominated the series as of late), then yeah...I guess overal I would say that the Warhawks/Titans is the best rivalry in the conference.
