I'm itching for another WIAC/Linfield matchup...sorry I keep encouraging the cat fans.

Are we assuming that WW or EC is going to play the Johnnies early on?  I guess WW probably won't.  Three losses just doesn't cut it in the playoffs.  EC seems to pull off fluke victories rather than winning on talent and coaching like WW is or LAX used to do.

They do have a good rivalry with the Johnnies but they just have a higher level of game than the second team out of the WIAC, whoever it should be.

Now Brez can't help that he's not as old as the legend you've got up there, but he does a damn fine job.  They may not have had the playoffs the past few years, but that's because of some excellent LAX teams that lost to MU and Linfield respectively.  I think they were second or third every year.  They were always our toughest game.

Which reminds me...a while ago about good conference rivalries I read somewhere; LAX/WW from our standpoint.  We ruined their seasons for the past few years and they ruined ours this year and have done it in the past.  Not to mention the clock incident of 2002 >:(

Brez and Harring used to get into it too.  Now that made it exciting.  If Coach Terry had that much fire it might rub off on the players a little bit.

Its hard to understand the absolute disregard from the SJU faithful for EC or WW's chances against you in the playoffs.  I know you already beat EC this year but come on, of all the teams in D3 football they are the one team that can say that they have consistently had success against the Johnnies.  Yet the arrogance continues.  Well you may beat EC (or whomever) in the first round but you will not make it out of the West so talk now while you can, unless Linfield and WW are shipped out of the West, but maybe since the ole ball coach is such a legend they will do that out of fear of the Johnnies.

If you're talking about LAX being 2nd or 3rd every year...

There is no true 3rd.

Lax got beat by Linfield by 38 last year in the 1st round. Linfield eventually won as we all know.
They got beat by MUC(k) by 25 in the 1st round in 2003. MUC(k) got smashed by SJU 24-6 in the Stagg
2002- Lost to Coe in the first round. Coe got blownout 45-14 the next round by SJU
2001- SP was the WIAC rep, they lost to SJU 9-7 in the first round. SJU went on to lose to MUC(K) in the Semi's
2000- Stout wins the WIAC and loses to SJU in the first round 26-19. SJU went on to lose to MUC(k) in the Stagg
1999 SP lost to SJU in the first round...

If you're talking about UWW's standings in the WIAC,

2005- winning the WIAC
2004- in a 3 way tie for 2nd at 4-3
2003- Ties with SP for 2nd
2002- 3-way tie for 3rd 5-5 overall
2001- tied for last with Oshkosh
2000- 5th outright
1999- tied for 4th

I guess your claim is semi-legit if UWW's WIAC standings are what you were referring to... but then again in 2004, 3 teams tied for 2nd, in 2003: 2 teams tied for second, 2002- 4 teams tied for 3rd, 2001-2 teams tied for 3rd, and 1999- ...

A lot of teams can claim mostly 2nds and 3rds in conference over the years.

Kiltedrat,
That is why the WIAC is considered one "the toughtest conferences" in the country because alot of teams end up tied at the top.  It has alot of parity.  And he was referring to WW when he said they were second or third every year.  UWW played LAX the last two years the final game of the season with a conference championship on the line.  The winner went on to the play-offs. The loser ended up in a tie for second.

Kilted Rat

If your conference is so tough, why are you 3-7 in the playoffs since the expansion?

Shouldn't the best team from a tough conference beat the best team from a not as tough conference?

Please don't give me the "we beat each other up because we're so tough that the winning team has nothing left" BS.

That's like a sprinter saying I ran so much in the qualifying I had nothing left for the olympics.

And to all you Johnie and Cat fans.
Your history does give you some great bragging right and you all know how to make use of them.  But for those of us who have had the pleasure, and for some people, the pain of witnessing the Warhawks on the field this year, there is something very different!  This is a new team with a new attitude and huge amounts of talent. They have great chemistry,  a potent, well-balanced  offense and a very tough Defense and if that's not enough, their special teams and kicking game will beat you as well.  They have great coaching and they are hungry.  They are breaking records right and left.  Most point scored 73 in a game by a WW team and most yards of offense gained 706 (with the starting QB on the bench for the entire second half.) It was the first homecoming game LAX lost in 19 years and the 663 yards of offense gained against USTP was the most their program has ever given up. The QB and the WR are breaking individual records and there  are still 2 games left in the season! This team is the real deal and it really doesn't matter one bit about years past.  You must all be a little worried or you would be spending alot less time on the WIAC message board!

Kilted Rat

Not worried, we just like reminding you that there is football outside the WIAC.

We're not worried, most MIAC and NWC posters seem to go to bed earlier than the MIAC ones do.

Besides, we already clinched our conference championships, nothing else to talk about in our leagues except playoffs.

By the way, I didn't decide the WIAC is the toughest conference in the country.  Take that up with your hosts, Pat and Keith, here on D-3football.com.  They chose the WIAC # 1 "Toughest Conference in the Country," in 2004

footballfan413

Oh and I guess it is alot easier to clinch a conference championship early when the rest of the conference sucks.  No surprised there!!

Kilted Rat

I'd rather have a conference that is successful in the postseason than a tough one any day.

Yeah...our conference sucks so bad we have two teams ranked in the top 25... how many does the WIAC have?

PS. Don't look now but the MIAC is 1-0 vs the WIAC this year with a win against your 2nd best team... I'd hate to ruin your sense of superiority. (that means you think you're better than we are).

My picks for the week:
EC at Osh... Let's go Titans! UWO
Lax at RF... Eagles, but this one much closer than it should be.
WW at Stout... I don't think Jacobs or Beaver has played on crap-turf yet. DEVILS
Last but not least, SP at Platte.
Granted I'm a Titans fan now, but I had the privilege of playing two years with this year's Pio seniors. Despite the record, there's a lot of heart within this group of guys. Hopefully they feel a sense of urgency and give their home crowd a win this weekend. Good luck fellas. Pioneers in a close one.

I guess I need some clarification on what constitutes a strong conference or a tough conference in the minds of some.

Maybe some view them as the same thing, I've always seen them as having two different meanings.

When someone says strong conference, I think solid top to bottom. When someone says tough,  I've always thought of it as being tough to win with say two really good teams and six or seven bottom dwellers.

Mr. Downtown

Another way of looking at it...

The SEC is possibly THE toughest conference in the nation for D1, and when was the last time a team from the SEC won the championship outright? (Hint: Gator Chomp, Gator Chomp)

Even with the Big Ten, when Ohio State went undefeated, but before then it was unthinkable to have a Big Ten team win it all due to how tough that conference is year in, and year out.

Yes Linfield is an excellent team, a team worthy of being number 1. But let's put it this sense for better clarification. Linfield is like USC and the Pac 10, and Whitewater is more like Virgina Tech in the ACC. Linfield has it easy, while Whitewater has some pesky teams to still get through.

Also, at least in the WIAC teams garner respect. No offense, but I didn't even know Linfield exsisted until some guy named Brett Elliot was playing. Maybe we'll see just how tough your 'cats are when after this year...

Though, I know how big of a kick you guys get. And to be fair, its kinda funny on how you guys storm our board. But hey, to be honest, when you are the best conference there is in Football and Basketball, you get used to it. Perhaps (gasp!) maybe you guys can actually study up on some of the other teams in the conference and make logical picks like the rest of us this week! Then we'll see how well you know the WIAC.

Random question:

Does anyone think that if SJU played in the WIAC that they would go undefeated or even one loss?
