Well, let's take a look at just the "good" teams then, shall we?

Am I being too generous counting Bethel?  Maybe.  Monmouth?  I dunno, they were an undefeated playoff team.  Regardless, I think I left the hapless teams out.  I would argue that 13 ppg and 217 ypg qualifies the SJU defense as one of the top handful in the nation.

So I decided to do some quick research as to how "weak" the Division III offenses that SJU played were in order to "exaggerate" their stats.

Here are SJU's opponents and their respective points per game:

Yep, SJU played a much easier offensive schedule.... by a whole 0.2 ppg


FYI: SJU averaged giving up 11.2 ppg, while UWW gave up 14.2. So, SJU held their opponents an average of 15.2 ppg below their average while UWW held their opponents an average of 12.2 ppg below their average.

One comment to add  UW-L outgained WW in their game 455-427 but Hawks still won.  That game inflates the average a bit.

In the end you can throw all these stats out the window
