Pat, at SJU, I learned to not use the word "dregs" three times in one sentence ;D

A tradition unrivaled...

Dude, are you freaking insane? Sure, stats are more-or-less pointless, but this CANNOT be ignored, so I'm making it extra big and bold:

Total defense: WW = Not ranked in top 35, SJU = #4

The Js have a HUGE advantage on defense. It's not even, the advantage is not small, it's HUGE.

The advantage is exaggerated by the fact that St. John's played Northwestern, Hamline, Gustavus, etc.

Here's what I said. Don't judge my comments by the Kilted Contingent's shouting, boldfaced, colorful overreaction.

Hey Pat at least we are talking about football and not about getting erections in jr. high like the LL board. ;D

OK, you were talking about Kilted Rat's one post 4 pages ago.  Gotcha.  I just figured that because--for 4 pages now--we have only mentioned stats for SJU and UWW's defense against quasi-playoff caliber teams (and no one has brought up performances against the "dregs" since then) that the conversation had moved past that point.  Guess I was wrong.

You have to cut us SJU posters some slack.  For all our posts (and playoff runs), we have about as much experience posting serious football analysis as we do losing to WIAC teams in the playoffs.

How 'bout some point/counterpoint?

Quote from: footballfan413 on November 22, 2005, 04:53:43 PM
Approximately 40% of the points scored , not to mention yards gained against WW, were in garbage time.

Yeah, SJU got up on a bunch of teams, too.  We dropped in "prevent" late in a lot of games, too.  Our starters didn't play much in the 4th quarter, either.  I think all these things go without saying.

I believe I acknowledged that already in my original post!

Let's remember that, as Pat pointed out, SJU played alot easier competition in conference since we play in the WIAC, named the  "Toughest Conference in the Country,"  in 2004 by our hosts, D-3.com.  Their definition of "Toughest." was a conference where the bottom could beat the middle of most other conferences.  Given that I would expect SJU to have better defensive stats.

Um, I think this was the point of taking the stats against the weak teams out in the first place.  It doesn't matter what a playoff team does against the bottom teams in the conference because you don't see Northwestern, Augsburg, or {generic last place WIAC team} in the playoffs.  Did the WIAC have a second place team as good as Concordia-Moorhead this year?  Because that's the type of team you see in the playoffs.

Not with the same record but does the WIAC have any teams that can beat Concordia-Moorhead?  My guess is yes!!!

Secondly, I just LOVE the personal attacks on Beaver and Kleppe!!!  You are really going to piss them off and I have seen them play football pissed off!!!! ;D  Why don't you go after the linebackers as well!!!  That could really work for us!!!

Do your players spend a lot of time reading Post Patterns?  Do they use PP as motivation on Saturday?  Come on, now...

This is the excuse for the personal attacks complete with pictures?  Don't kid yourself that the players don't read this stuff!!  I recall a SJU player quoting his coach on here about a month ago!!

And about calling it even between the two teams QB's and WR's.  That must mean that your boys at that position have broken as many school and conference records as the WW boys!!

I guess it goes without saying that UW-W and WIAC records are a lot easier to break than SJU and MIAC.  I will grant you, Kofoed/Gearman/Royce-Diop/Haugen are no Keating/Elliott/Riegelman/Clintsman (not to mention even better combos of the 1990s), but that's some pretty damn stiff competition.

I will give you this one.  Don't know enough about SJU's history.  Just know these boys are the best to come around UWW in quite awhile!

For the record, I did learn alot reading the last few pages!!  A good planned out point with stats to back it up is so much better than trash talk!

Glad we were able to help.  Keep reading the next few weeks as we educate Linfield fans, Mount Union fans, and more--still a lot to be learned!!!

I am sure you know all the answers!

Aren't the playoffs fun?  As I posted above, I think UWW will keep it within 7 points, and I am obviously biased.   Should be a great game.

Go Johnnies!  Go Cobbers!  Go home, Warhawks!

 GO WARHAWKS!!!!

Oh yeah, when I previewed my post, this came up:  "Warning - while you were typing 10 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post."  Nice.

  Had the same problem!!lol!!

Pat,

I just wanted to point out that SJU's faced as good if not better offenses as UWW and performed better while doing so.

To claim that SJU's stats are exaggerated due to their schedule is a crap argument. Especially compared to a team that played the likes of Lakeland and some of the lower tier teams in the WIAC.

UWW didn't play another playoff team all season, SJU did and won. Now with Concordia winning and making it to the 2nd round, SJU's schedule is that much more impressive than UWW's.

Thats funny... Lakeland although crappy was in the playoffs and St. Xavier is in the NAIA Div. II playoffs

Kubiak78, You forgot to mention that Lakeland won  their Conference!

wildcat11

Kubiack,

There is no Div I or II in the NAIA anymore....just one NAIA division.  That was a good win for Whitewater.  St. Xavier is a very good NAIA playoff squad.  I think that Whitewater is legit and should be the favorite in this game but the old man sure gets his teams ready to play.

Yeah?

Well Northwestern won the mighty UMAC and won 2 games in one day... beat that!

Not to mention the 10 team UMAC is numerically elligible to have an automatic bid once all teams are through their "trial DIII" period.

Besides, SJU beat a team from Wisconsin already this year, how many teams from MN has UWW beaten?

So, SJU beat two conference winners in Monmouth and NWC, UWW has only beaten the mighty Lakeland.

Pretty much stats don't mean crap right now its put up or shut up!

A lot will be revealed on Saturday and next week one of our boards will be a lot less busy!

Yeah, well, the Kilt Clan isn't interested in anyone else's facts, only their own.

Kilderat,  you are just pissed that Kubiak78 nailed you on the "UWW hasn't played a play-off team all year," comment! ;D
