UWW fans need to be a little more enthusiastic.  The Johnny fans, although outnumbered, were clearly louder and more into the game.

I can't believe you said this!!!  Were you at the game?  The Warhawks shut the SJU fans up early and often!  The Warhawk turnout was terriffic and the fans were great!  I wasn't going to post anything negative on here but I had to address that comment!  And one more thing!  Those turnovers were the result of a stifling defense that put pressure on the QB and runningbacks all day.  SJU was clearly out hit and it started taking its toll on their execution.  On the positive side where I wanted to stay, I appreciate all the congrats from some of the SJU posters!  This team proved today, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are a fantastic football team and deserve national respect!!

Yeah, I was at the game - I guess we just have different opinions.  The Warhawks were definitely the better team, but the Johnny fans impressed me even when their team gave them little reason to cheer.  I will say that I was impressed with the turnout, particularly the UWW students.

As for the turnovers, 2 (or 3?) of the fumbles were on punt returns.  Several of the other fumbles were SJU players just dropping the ball.  Kudos to the UWW D for being alert, but I don't think the stifling defense caused ALL the TO's.

You are  right, not all of them but that defense was a hell of alot more than just, "alert!"

For WW fans, here's the Star Tribune game story. Some nice quotes by WW coach and a player.

Retired Old Rat

Congratulations to the Warhawks on your impressive win over the Johnnies.  The better team won the game.  I was down on the field and got a close up look at the action.

Good luck next week against Linfield.

Great to meet Voice and Oldpa today.

Foss-
To go through the conference, and season, undefeated so far, says how good this Warhawks team has been, and how good they potentially could be if they can keep their season on a roll...

To go from 7-3 to 12-0? Well 2004 is how this conference goes... La Crosse was 5-2, followed by Whitewater/Stevens Point and UWEC at 4-3, followed by Platteville/River Falls and Stout at 3-4, with Oshkosh last at 2-5. Whitewater lost to La Crosse, Platteville and UW-Stevens Point...

It seems like UWL is always in the hunt, and with three National Championships, is the always favorite, and the closest thing you could call as a "dynasty" in this conference... But this year UWL had a down year for its program, going 5-4 overall, while Whitewater stepped it up.

But there is always a team or two that has a big year in football, too, while others play spoilers; parity plays into the overall scheme.  And if one school isn't necessarily having a good year on the football field, or playing a spoiler, it is usually fielding a great team or two in other sports, like the recent D3 national champs in baseball and basketball...

Just returned home from a long seven hour drive.

Congrats to WW for a very well played game today.  I was disappointed by the J's subpar effort but WW is for real.  Completing those long balls for third down conversions were a couple of killer plays.  Beaver is a very good back, good speed and low center of gravity.  Good luck against Linfield next week.
Go Johnnies!!!

Random thoughts:

When it comes to the game of football I'd rather have two physical education majors than 22 rocket scientists.  Not that I have anything against rocket scientists.  ;D

I don't know what you were watching Wildcat but six of the eight fumbles were forced fumbles where our defensive players either knocked the ball loose or stripped it out of the runner's hands. In simple terms we took it to them.  I'll never understand why their punt returner didn't start making fair catches.  He was a turnover waiting to happen.

St John's averaged just over 2 yards per carry rushing the football.  We forced them into totally abandoning the run in the second half. Their quarterback was pretty decent though the a lot of passing yardage came on underneath routes after we'd gone three scores up and prevent.

They didn't have anyone defensively who could run with Derek Stanley.

You would never guess which team had the #4 ranked defense and which one had a defense not ranked within the top 35.  Opponents not withstanding a glaring statistic that could not be igorned.  Today it was totally meaningless.

We controlled the TOP 35 to 25 minutes and got points 5 of 6 times in the red zone.

We started substituting defensively in the later stages of the third quarter.   By the middle of the fourth quarter we had most starters sitting.

Playing like they did, St John wouldn't have gone .500 in the WIAC this year.  Platteville might even have been able to beat them the way they played today.

St John was by far the best visiting team crowd that we've seen all season.  They travel incredibly well and virtually filled the visitor's bleachers.

Coach G is a legend.  Coach B won the game. They both have a lot to be proud of.

St John turns in their equipment tomorrow.  We practice another week.

OK...now I'm REALLY PISSED! WW has an actual PEP BAND and they played crappy canned rap music over the speakers instead!?   I really hope we kick their a$$ now. I'm PISSED! That's LOW CLASS!!! Here you have all these dedicated music students that have practiced all week and carried their instruments to the game only to have some moronic cheerleader adviser put in some scammed rap cd from napster on the pa system and blast everybody with stupid lyrics about some hoe with big boobs!...that's sick! I really hope we kick Whitewaters butt now!

heywood220

hey i just wantd to say i was at the ww sju game yesterday
i have been to every ww home game this year    to start about the band and how everyone is complaining about the music...  we usually have a 50 - 75 person band and if u were at the game you would of seen about 20, this is because of the holiday weekend, which is the same reason why alot of the students werent there(the dorms were closed). so for any fans to be mad at that is wrong.

Second i want to say kudos to all the SJU fans, in the parking lot they all showed ALOT of class and through the whole game they stayed and rooted for thier team. by far the best opponent that ww has had this year both fans and players it was an honor to host all of you.

to next week i hope we show linfield that whitewater is a power!!

TRU

Congrats to WW I think they have what it takes to stay with the Cats. Cord did well against the Cats as they play a lot of smash mouth football, similar to WIAC teams.  However Cord does not have WW passing game. It should be a very good game next week.

Hope we can meet again.

Hey guys,

The photo gallery is up: http://pictureprints.net/albums.php?gallery=493

Thanks to all the WW fans and staff for the excellent hospitality. Good luck next week against the Wildcats of Linfield. If all goes well I may see you again in two weeks time in Salem.

UWW put a MONKEY STOMP on the Johnnies!!

The best team on the field yesterday won the game. There are no other words. The Warhawks came to play & the Johnnies DID NOT.

The Warhawks now have shot at the defending National Champions. To be the best you have to beat the best. The Stagg Bowl champions will come from the West Region again.

Warhawk fans, fill a couple of planes & support your team in McMinville, they deserve your support. Best of luck next week & the rest of the play-off run.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

This was sooo good, I had to give it an "instant replay!!"   :D
I said last week that the UWW defense was the best kept secret in D-3 football!  Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag!!! ;)

I also want to give alot of credit to the Johnny fans and players.  My first post after the game put me into a positioin where I felt like I had to defend the Warhawk fans and in doing so, inadvertently was negative toward them.  It was not my purpose!  You had a great and classy contingent and your players gave you a terrific season!  Nothing that happened on Saturday should take way from that!  That is how I would have felt about our boys had the shoe been on the other foot.  Wow, I am just full of cliches this morning. ;D ;D
I want to give a shout out to the band members that came back to school from their turkey break to play in the game yesterday!  You are awesome.  I suspect alot of you were also the same ones who traveled to Stout and stood in the parking lot in the rain and played the school song.  It is greatly appreciated by players, parents and fans alike!!!  As far as the canned music, I say you can never have to much music to get everyone rocking in their seats!!

Congratulations to the wonderful Warhawks!!!   There is still alot of winning left to do.  You are getting better every game!  Now isn't that a scary thought!!! ;D ;D ;D
